Arizona (
i/ɛrɪˈzoʊnə/; /ærɪˈzoʊnə/) (Navajo: Hoozdo Hahoodzo; O'odham: Alĭ ṣonak) is a state in the southwestern region of the United States. It is also part of the Western United States and of the Mountain West states. It is the sixth largest and the 14th most populous of the 50 states. Its capital and largest city is Phoenix. Arizona is one of the Four Corners states. It has borders with New Mexico, Utah, Nevada, California, and Mexico, and one point in common with the southwestern corner of Colorado. Arizona's border with Mexico is 389 miles (626 km) long, on the northern border of the Mexican states of Sonora and Baja California.
Arizona is the 48th state and last of the contiguous states to be admitted to the Union, achieving statehood on February 14, 1912. It was previously part of the territory of Alta California in New Spain before being passed down to independent Mexico and later ceded to the United States after the Mexican–American War. The southernmost portion of the state was acquired in 1853 through the Gadsden Purchase.

The Grand Canyon, Horseshoe Bend, Lake Powell, Monument Valley in Arizona - I have been there many times but it's the first time I put all of it in a video :). I was a guide for my Romanian friends at "Around the World in 4K" team (check them here https://www.youtube.com/user/aroundtheworld4k ) when they filmed here some months ago. The music was composed specifically for this video by Allen Constantine, who is a film and games music composer (listen to his music here https://soundcloud.com/allenconstantine ). Thank you, Allen! On September 11th 2015 I took the Texas Eagle Amtrak train from LA to Austin. The train passes through the states of California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas, taking nearly 33 hours to complete this leg of the journey, before continuing on up to Chicago. This short film comprises a number of clips I took from the train window, mostly in Arizona and Texas. I highly recommended seeing America this way. Though it's not the most comfortable way to travel you'll see things and meet people you rarely would travelling by car or plane. From Kayenta we head to Page. Here we will visit the Antylope Canyon. Unlike the majority of other parks, to visit dell'Antylope you need a guide. For this, we booked the tour a few months earlier. We head to the place of origin which is located in Page. Here we see a folkloric show of a Navajo Indian. We climb in trucks and head towards the Antylope Canyon. After having crossed a paved road, we exit on a dirt road where our driver makes us dance a lot '. 2.5 months away from home. Exploring the world of comedy outside of New York City. My final adventure was to climb into the Grand Canyon to see the Colorado River and sleep next to it and then climb back out. My good buddy from high school Andrew Shallcross was my guide and travel partner. The deep beaches of the canyon hold a very strange energy. You feel it when you are there listening to the birds and the rapids. You feel as if you are in nature's cathedral. It demands respect. We are all smaller than we think.

Situated in the Navajo Indian Reservation, the Betatakin Ruins are the remains of historical dwellings which were carved into the rock by their original inhabitants from the 13th Century B.C. Wild West fans instantly recognise Monument Valley where, between colossal, 300 metre tall monoliths and sky-high rocky needles, John Wayne and countless other screen heroes fought off Indians and battled with ‘baddies’. A natural sculpture formed from undulating waves of stone, Antelope Canyon is a palette of colour which teases the eye. From the surface, a gaping crevice is the only means of access, tempting the curious to enter. In bold contrast, the Grand Canyon is 1,600 metres deep and 16 kilometres long, the most colossal gorge in the world. The sight of this gigantic natural wonder is the exciting climax of any trip to the magnificent and majestic land of Arizona.

In this travel video guide to Scottsdale, Arizona, I travel to Scottsdale, the so-called "Miami Beach" of Arizona. Located just to the east of Phoenix, Scottsdale is home to some of the city's best restaurants, bars, hotels and attractions.
I start of my travel in Scottsdale visiting downtown, otherwise known as "Old Town," the very walkable central part of the city full of small shops and a booming restaurant scene. It is also here that the city's roots can be traced back to the original farmers and settlers that called this otherwise barren part of the desert home back in the early 1900's.
I then head east into Tonto National Park to go kayaking down the Salt River with Arizona Outback Adventures (AOA), the area's premiere outdoor adventure company.
Next, I visit Taliesin West, the school/winter home of America's most famous architect, Frank Lloyd Wright. Here I explore the unique structures and landscapes that make up Wright's real-world laboratory for he and his students' architectural ideas.
Then I head back into nature with AOA to go hiking in the McDowell Sonoran Preserve, a 30,000-acre preserve located just minutes from the city, and a perfect place to explore the unique landscape of the desert -- even when the temperature exceeds 100 degrees.
Last, I head inside and give a tour of my sweet pad at the Hotel Valley Ho, probably one of the coolest hotels I've ever stayed in. Harkening back to its Mid-Century roots, the hotel's unique architecture and swanky rooms makes it one of the premiere places to rest your head while staying in Scottsdale.

The Arizona Collective is a Facebook Group of the state’s premier photographers. On a recent expedition to Marble Canyon, and Tuweep-Grand Canyon national Park, I went along and captured some footage on the trip as well as some time-lapse.
Marble Canyon
Marble Canyon is the section of the Colorado River canyon in northern Arizona from Lee's Ferry to the confluence with the Little Colorado River, which marks the beginning of the Grand Canyon. Lee's Ferry is a common launching point for river runners starting their journey through the Grand Canyon. Marble Canyon is also well known for the Navajo Bridge, where US Highway 89A crosses the Colorado River.
Marble Canyon marks the western boundary of the Navajo Nation. In 1975, the former Marble Canyon National Monument, which followed the Colorado River northeast from the Grand Canyon to Lee's Ferry, was made part of Grand Canyon National Park.
The name Marble Canyon is a misnomer because there is no marble there. Although Powell knew this when he named the canyon, he thought the polished limestone looked like marble. In his words, "The limestone of the canyon is often polished, and makes a beautiful marble. Sometimes the rocks are of many colors - white, gray, pink, and purple, with saffron tints"-wikipedia
You can access Marble Canyon either from the Navajo Nation (Permit Required) or from BLM land. In this outing we came in from the BLM side. If you want majestic canyon views all to yourself than Marble Canyon is your destination. I captured footage using my #DJI Ozmo handheld stabilized 4K camera and timelapse footage with a Canon 5DMkIII and an #Emotimo as well as with my old T2i. The footage with the two Jeeps was captured via the T2I and one dare not go above 1600 ISO-remember those days? I also captured some 1080 footage via my iPhone.
From there we headed to Tuweep and the Toroweep Overlook. Tuweep is the National Park Service most remote point in the lower 48 and the trip is not for the light-hearted as you have 60-70 miles of dirt road driving, the last of which will require a high clearance vehicle for sure. Make sure to have a spare and tire repair as the road is known for not being friendly to tires (especially city tires). On one of my earlier trips I popped one tire and bubbled the other. A tow will run you $1000-2000.
For uncrowded views of the deepest part of the Grand Canyon (3000 vertical feet) from the Toroweep overlook it’s well worth the hassle getting here. You will however need a permit. Looking down river you can see many ancient lava flows that flowed into what is now the Colorado river. It is less than one mile across the canyon to the Hualapai Indian Reservation on the South Rim, making this one of the narrowest and deepest segments of the inner canyon.
Toroweap, a Paiute term meaning "dry or barren valley," refers to local features, including the valley and the overlook. Tuweep came into use to describe the local white settlement and later the park area. Tuweep in Paiute (pronounced Tu-VEEP) refers to "the earth”.
The first humans in the Tuweep region were ice-age hunters who lived a nomadic hunting-gathering existence in what was a milder climate. The Ancestral Puebloans, arriving about 2000 years ago, farmed in this area. They migrated eastward around A.D.1300. The most recent native Americans living here were the Paiute. They now live to the north.
John Wesley Powell, led by a Paiute guide, visited Tuweep in 1870. He mapped and named many of the local features. More recently, European-Americans ranched, mined, and settled in the area. While ranchers used this valley seasonally in the early 1900s, the first year-round homestead was the Lower Kent Ranch, built in 1927, located just north of the park. Other pioneers in the region included the Schmutz, Cunningham, Craig, and Bundy families. Henry Covington herded sheep and mined on the Esplanade for over 20 years. There are still many sites that speak of his determination to live and prosper in this arid region. (NPS)

You can access Marble Canyon either from the Navajo Nation (Permit Required) or from BLM land. In this outing we came in from the BLM side. If you want majestic canyon views all to yourself than Marble Canyon is your destination. I captured footage using my #DJI Ozmo handheld stabilized 4K camera and timelapse footage with a Canon 5DMkIII and an #Emotimo as well as with my old T2i. The footage with the two Jeeps was captured via the T2I and one dare not go above 1600 ISO-remember those days? I also captured some 1080 footage via my iPhone.
From there we headed to Tuweep and the Toroweep Overlook. Tuweep is the National Park Service most remote point in the lower 48 and the trip is not for the light-hearted as you have 60-70 miles of dirt road driving, the last of which will require a high clearance vehicle for sure. Make sure to have a spare and tire repair as the road is known for not being friendly to tires (especially city tires). On one of my earlier trips I popped one tire and bubbled the other. A tow will run you $1000-2000.
For uncrowded views of the deepest part of the Grand Canyon (3000 vertical feet) from the Toroweep overlook it’s well worth the hassle getting here. You will however need a permit. Looking down river you can see many ancient lava flows that flowed into what is now the Colorado river. It is less than one mile across the canyon to the Hualapai Indian Reservation on the South Rim, making this one of the narrowest and deepest segments of the inner canyon.
Toroweap, a Paiute term meaning "dry or barren valley," refers to local features, including the valley and the overlook. Tuweep came into use to describe the local white settlement and later the park area. Tuweep in Paiute (pronounced Tu-VEEP) refers to "the earth”.
The first humans in the Tuweep region were ice-age hunters who lived a nomadic hunting-gathering existence in what was a milder climate. The Ancestral Puebloans, arriving about 2000 years ago, farmed in this area. They migrated eastward around A.D.1300. The most recent native Americans living here were the Paiute. They now live to the north.
John Wesley Powell, led by a Paiute guide, visited Tuweep in 1870. He mapped and named many of the local features. More recently, European-Americans ranched, mined, and settled in the area. While ranchers used this valley seasonally in the early 1900s, the first year-round homestead was the Lower Kent Ranch, built in 1927, located just north of the park. Other pioneers in the region included the Schmutz, Cunningham, Craig, and Bundy families. Henry Covington herded sheep and mined on the Esplanade for over 20 years. There are still many sites that speak of his determination to live and prosper in this arid region. (NPS)
I shot much fo the vehicle footage with my DJI Ozmo using the Ozmo vehicle mount and it worked better than expected. We were lucky enough to have a random storm passing through the canyon and was able to time-lapse a few segments of it.

On September 11th 2015 I took the Texas Eagle Amtrak train from LA to Austin. The train passes through the states of California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas, taking nearly 33 hours to complete this leg of the journey, before continuing on up to Chicago.
This short film comprises a number of clips I took from the train window, mostly in Arizona and Texas.
I highly recommended seeing America this way. Though it's not the most comfortable way to travel you'll see things and meet people you rarely would travelling by car or plane.
Music is 'Exit Does Not Exist' by Sun Kil Moon, taken from his album of Modest Mouse covers. A record I was listening to a lot at the time.

The summer months allow you to fully enjoy the extraordinary effects of light that are produced when the sun's rays creep into the narrow canyon. The best time to visit is around 12, in order to enjoy the extraordinary illumination.

My final adventure was to climb into the Grand Canyon to see the Colorado River and sleep next to it and then climb back out. My good buddy from high school Andrew Shallcross was my guide and travel partner. The deep beaches of the canyon hold a very strange energy. You feel it when you are there listening to the birds and the rapids. You feel as if you are in nature's cathedral. It demands respect. We are all smaller than we think.

Mike: Good morning, thanks Tyson. Good morning to some and good afternoon to others. Thanks for joining us for the first of our three destination marketing webinars, search powering your marketing mix.
I'm Mike Rosenberg Vice President of New Business and Strategy at EngineWworks. We're a full service digital marketing agency focused on the travel and hospitality industry. So my goal today is to show you how to use search marketing research really to drive all of your marketing efforts. This session promises to provide a strategy backbone that can be implemented by all destinations of all sizes, to enhance your marketing efforts, from research to strategy and planning. This hopefully informative and actionable presentation is going to provide a road map. And we'll have some case studies along the way as well.
As a reminder as I mentioned it is the first of three. The next two specifically focusing in on social media and can it deliver to your bottom line where we'll address how to go about tracking your social media efforts to see if all the work is paying off. That will be our April presentation, and then in May we'll go even more interactive than we are today and have live SEO assessments. We'll take a couple of quote-unquote ”pre-seededed assessments” from ahead of time, and then we'll take a few that are also live from the attendees during the webinar. So let's get going, search powering and your marketing mix, knowledge is power. So really the impetus of this presentation is that for a long time, really since the beginning of advertising and marketing. Companies have spent a lot of money, a lot of time on the creation of their marketing mix. And traditionally this has been a topped down strategy. You know, messages were created to tout the attributes or the benefits of a company’s products or services. Or in this case, a destination’s, attractions or features, or the cities within it. Follow that by integration of that messaging into each channel of the marketing mix. Then do some conventional marketing research to see if it was effective. Kind of going into the old adage of if fifty percent of my marketing works, I just don't know which fifty percent.
Well unfortunately this process often failed to hit the mark. The in-depth research and analysis of consumer action coupled with what we now have is, instantaneous or at least close to instantaneous ROI tracking and measurement, can help us use that knowledge gained through some of these search marketing, and all my marketing tools as a foundation to actually create a marketing mix. So, what we would like to look at here is not just viewing search marketing or even online marketing as, a channel within the mix, but, rather we can feed that traditionally created messaging that we feed into the marketing mix. But rather using that to extract knowledge to create that overall marketing campaign.
Kind of a road map of what we're going to cover, the four main points today are going to be: research and analysis, how customers seek out destinations, how we can discover the best targeting and messaging and then, how to integrate all of it into your various media channels. You know, through this process we can really extract some precise behavioral information pertaining to exactly who's searching for a specific destinations information on those, what it is that their looking for, which messages resonate with them, and what factors entice them to become visitors, or customers. And all through this you can create targeting and messaging to really drive that consumer action, both on and offline. So one thing to note here is, I would definitely use the bullets, not a list, one, two, three, four. We'll really weave through these four pieces throughout the entire presentation. And as I mentioned we'll use some examples along the way as well, some case studies.
