    The Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Youth Forum will provide a platform for youth to engage in a dialogue with Member States and to discuss the policy frameworks and promote innovative, institutionalised approaches and initiatives for advancing the youth development agenda at national, regional and global levels with a view to promoting solutions to the global challenge of strengthening resilience and sustainable development.

    UNDP Arab States launched the Youth Leadership Programme ﴾YLP﴿ in 2015, it has first started with YLP1 (2015) and then YLP2 (2016) and now UNDP Arab States is launching YLP 3 to support young men and women from across the region in exploring innovative approaches to addressing sustainable development challenges, with a specific focus on gender equality and women’s empowerment.

  • Story Competition:Shughel Shabab!

    Shughel Shabab is an advocacy campaign working to build space for young peacebuilders in the Middle East and North Africa. It will provide a platform to give young peacebuilders a voice, and to promote more inclusive policies and peace processes that make room for young peacebuilders in the region.

  • 19-23 October: The first SDGs Data dive camp in the Arab region

    Visualize 2030 will bring together the top 30 participants (individuals and teams) to participate in a data dive adventure in order to collectively think and engage with one another to unleash the power of data: create and produce visual content such as infographics, illustrations, and videos using the ADP Database and other sources.

    The Social Good Summit (SGS) is a two-day conference examining the impact of technology and new media on social good initiatives around the world. Held annually during United Nations General Week, SGS unites a dynamic community of global leaders and grassroots activists to discuss solutions for the greatest challenges of our time. During SGS, global citizens around the world unite to unlock the potential of technology to make the world a better place. This initiative is annually localized in various UNDP Country Offices worldwide.

  • 4-5 April: Supporting the future of Syria and the region - Brussels conference

    As the crisis in Syria enters into its seventh year, the situation remains extremely grave: the armed conflict continues, millions are in urgent need of humanitarian aid and protection, displaced or in refuge in neighbouring countries. Conditions for many inside and outside the country are difficult or deteriorating, although commendable efforts have been made by host governments, which led to tangible results.

  • 5 April: Global Launch of Jobs Make the Difference

    As the Syrian crisis enters its seventh year, Jobs Makes the Dierence makes it clear that expanding access to economic opportunities for those aected by the crisis must be a priority. However, it is equally clear that the current response, despite recent successes, is unlikely to be sufficient.

  • 6 April: Launch Arab Human Development Report 2016 in Brussels

    European Commission, the EastWest institute and UNDP will launch the Arab Human Development Report 2016 (AHDR): Youth and the Prospects of Human Development in a Changing Reality, on Thursday, April 6th, 2017 in Brussels.

  • 14–19December 2016: UNDP Youth Leadership Programme 2  Regional Workshop: “Youth Action for the 2030 Agenda”

    The Ministry of Youth in Kuwait in partnership with UNDP Kuwait and UNDP RBAS will convene the regional workshop on “Youth Action for the 2030 Agenda” in the Arab region from 27th of November till 1st of December 2016. The regional workshop will be convened in partnership with UN Women Regional Office for the Arab States and the Office of the Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth

  • 4-6 December: Youth , Peace & Security in the Arab States Region: A Consultation and High - Level Dialogue

    Following both the Global Forum on Youth, Peace and Security held in Amman in 2015 and the newly passed UN Security Council Resolution (SCR 2250), UNDP and UNESCO are co-leading, on behalf of the Regional United Nations Development Group-Interagency Technical Task Team on Young People (R-UNIATTTYP), in partnership with the Peacebuilding Support Office (UNPSO) and UNFPA, a regional Consultation and High-Level Dialogue on “Youth, Peace & Security in the Arab States Region” in Amman, Jordan from 4 to 6 December 2016.

  • 29 November: Launch of the Arab Human Development Report 2016

    On 29 November 2016, UNDP will launch the latest edition of its Arab Human Development Report (AHDR) series. AHDR 2016 examines challenges and opportunities facing youth in the Arab region, especially since 2011, and seeks to provide an overview on youth in the region, stimulate debate on youth and development, and engage youth with key stakeholders in a dialogue on issues of priority to them.

  • 8-17 November: Marrackech Climate Change Conference COP22

    The Marrakech Climate Change Conference convenes from 7-18 November 2016, in Marrakech, Morocco. At this session the 22nd Conference of the Parties (COP 22) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the 12th Conference of the Parties serving as the Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (CMP 12), and the 1st Conference of the Parties serving as the Meeting of the Parties to the Paris Agreement (CMA 1) is taking place.

  • 1st and 2nd November: Interreligious Dialogue on Diversity, Tolerance and Social Cohesion  in the Arab Region

    The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)- Regional Bureau for Arab States (RBAS) in partnership with King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz International Centre for Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue (KAICIID) are convening a two-day open dialogue with religious leaders (and scholars), thinkers and community mediators to discuss rising intolerance and violent extremism inthe Arab region.

  • 25-27 October: Resilience Building Week

    The Governments of Canada, Finland and UNDP will co-host a “Resilience Building Week – a Bridge from Concepts to Evidence,” in Amman, Jordan from the 25th to the 27th of October 2016. This event will consist of several high visibility sessions that bring together top experts, leaders, practitioners and friends of resilience from a wide range of national and international partners.

    Launch of the Arab Development Portal (ADP) - a one-stop-shop, bilingual (Arabic and English) online knowledge platform providing credible and timely data and information on development in the Arab region employing a unique and dynamic database and a rich depository of resources, currently covering eleven key development topics across all Arab countries. ADP is a joint initiative between UNDP, the Coordination Group of Arab, National and Regional Development Institutions (CG), the Islamic Development Bank and the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID)

  • Resilience Development Forum

    The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) will bring together key humanitarian and development stakeholders, including UN agencies; international financial institutions; donors; and representatives of international and national non-governmental organizations, and the private sector alongside senior representatives of Governments in the immediate sub-region affected by the Syria crisis, to collectively consider a new vision of the response to the protracted crisis, now well into its fifth year

  • 29 November- 1 December 2015: Arab Women in the Sustainable Development Agenda 2015 - 2030

    The Arab Women Organization in partnership with UNDP Regional Bureau of Arab States, UN Women, and league of Arab States are convening a high level conference on the implementation of the post 2015 SDGs with respect to the important issues of gender equality and women’s empowerment.

  • Seminar at Oxford University discusses Third Arab Knowledge Report

    The aim of this post-launch in Oxford is the linkage between education and employment and the ways in which this linkage works to create opportunities for youth.

  • 13-15 June 2015: First Social Innovation Camp for youths in the Arab Region

    The 6th edition of the AHDR will be launched on May 25th, 2015. The report covers a broad spectrum of development issues related to youth in the region. This is the first AHDR to be launched since the Arab Spring, where youth played a central role in becoming leaders and taking command of the future they yearned for. The AHDR 2015 highlights several thematic areas in depth, including, but not limited to: civic participation, education and transition to labor markets, young women inclusion and empowerment, and most important, the road ahead.

  • 14-15 June 2015: Forum of women parliamentarians of MENA region and Africa

    The political representation of women in elected bodies in the MENA and Africa region has made significant progress over the last twenty years.

  • 29 - 30 April: Regional Youth Volunteering Forum

    UNV is organizing the first Regional Youth Volunteering Forum in Marrakesh, Morocco, in April 2014. The Forum will bring together the three key youth volunteering stakeholders, youth, governments and CSOs, to facilitate dialogues, the exchange of knowledge and sharing of best practices to gain a better understanding of the role of youth volunteerism in socio-economic development and participatory governance.

  • 31 March - 2 April: Launch of UNDP Youth Strategy 2014-2017: ‘Empowered Youth, Sustainable Future’

    The newly approved UNDP Youth Strategy will be launched in Tunis, Tunisia followed by a knowledge sharing and prospective forum on civic engagement and participation in political processes and public institutions, convened by the UNDP Bureau for Development Policy. Building on the momentum from days one and two, the UNDP Regional Bureau for Arab States aims to chart regional priorities and solidify a vision for work on youth in the region on day three.

  • 15 January: Kuwait II Side-Event

    Three years into the Syria conflict, neighbouring countries continue to provide assistance to millions of Syrian refugees. Yet the strain on national budgets and community resources is pushing more host country citizens into poverty and straining social services, infrastructure and national treasuries. Thus neighbouring governments are preparing national development response plans, which address continuing refugee needs, but also seek to ensure the well-being of their own citizens. These plans, closely coordinated with humanitarian assistance plans, anticipate a multi-faceted response to assure immediate relief, strengthen individual and community resilience and rebuild essential development infrastructure.

  • 10 - 11 April: Arab Development Forum

    In order to succeed in building a clear, coherent and inspiring post-2015 development agenda across the Arab region, the Regional United Nations Development Group (UNDG) is organizing a forum on addressing the Development Agenda in Arab Countries. High-Level Panel Member for Post – 2015 in the Arab region Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah of Jordan is expected to participate.

  • 7 - 8 April: International Donor Conference for Construction and Development in Darfur

    On the 7th and 8th of April, the international community will meet in Doha to endorse the Strategy for Recovery, Reconstruction and Development in Darfur (DDS) developed through a comprehensive consultation process in partnership with the Government of Sudan, the Darfur Regional Authority, UN agencies, International Financial Institutions and Civil Society. The conference has 3 objectives: (a) to endorse the strategy, (b) to agree on the coordination and funding mechanism, and (c) to confirm financial commitments of the international community for the implementation of the strategy.

  • 8 March: International Women's Day

    International Women’s Day 2012 focuses on the empowerment of rural women and their role in poverty and hunger eradication, development and current challenges.

  • 19 - 21 March: The First Arab Regional Conference for Disaster Risk Reduction

    The 1st Arab Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) will bring together the key actors in DRR from the 22 Arab countries. It will provide a forum for Arab politicians, policy makers, planners, academia and development experts to discuss issues and challenges facing the region with regard to disaster risk reduction.

  • 4 - 6 November: Urban Risk Management Workshop

    The purpose of Regional Advocacy Workshop is to mobilize support from municipal governments and UNDP country offices to design and implement interventions for urban risk reduction in high risk Arab cities. The workshop participants will include mayors/senior municipal officials and UNDP staff from target countries.

  • 7 - 9 November: Regional Consultation on Transitional Justice Development in the MENA Region

    The Regional Consultation will take stock of the steps taken by the participating countries of the region in the area of transitional justice. It will create an open forum for the different actors across the MENA region to share experiences and practices on transitional justice initiatives, and identify challenges and needs. It will also look at the way forward, and discuss possible cooperation with national, regional and international stakeholders.

  • 12 -14 November: Regional Conference on Engendering Constitution-Making in the Arab Region

    One of UNDP’s comparative advantages is in facilitating knowledge sharing and this conference will contribute to the sharing of experiences regionally but also provide a forum for learning from global experiences and good practices of negotiating women’s rights in political transitions.

  • 26 - 29 November: Regional Governance Week

    The “Governance Week” will take stock of the progress made towards democratic transitions from the perspective of social accountability, focusing on the process of re-negotiating the social contract between the citizens and State in the Arab Region.

    In the last decade, almost one million people have been killed by disasters and more than one trillion dollars have been lost. Yet only 1% of international aid is spent to minimise the impact of these disasters.

  • 17 October : International Day for the Eradication of Poverty

    Extreme poverty destroys the lives and spirit of people; it kills more children, young persons, and adults than any war. Every day, people living in extreme poverty are challenged and threatened by lack of food, shelter and access to essential services.
