Alternatives to Chemical Restraint Panel Discussion
Monday March 5th, 7-9pm

Chemical restraints are pharmaceutical drugs used to sedate someone in a crisis or perceived crisis situation. This practice resulted in a recent, tragic death of a local woman (http://www.theolympian.com/news/local/article198930799.html ), and I am hoping to bring a wide range of community members together to try and identify alternatives to chemical restraint and forced medication, and also build awareness and skills for de-escalation for individuals experiencing emotional/mental/spiritual crisis.

We’ll write descriptions of scenes we’ve experienced, allowing us to relive our personal history using our senses and memories, applying “poetic license” for effect. Patrick Dixon is a writer and photographer retired from careers in teaching and commercial fishing. Please bring writing materials. Registration is required and will begin at 10 a.m., March 6.
Local poet Patrick Dixon lived and drift-gillnetted for salmon in Alaska for 20 years. He has written about those experiences for 20 more. His poems have been published frequently online, in anthologies, magazines and journals.
