Are you stretching regularly? I always warm up, then stretch well B4 workouts. And I have been yoga for 26 years (twice a week most weeks). Long muscles have many advantages over short ones.

Don't overstretch. Don't reach beyond your ability. Don't push to the point of pain. You may be damaging muscles, not stretching them. Don’t try to compete against other stretchers who may be looser than you.
