Anarchy Planet IRC

<br/>

[PLEASE NOTE: The web client is currently down, we're working on a fix. In the meantime, if you'd like to access the IRC you will need an IRC client. Point it towards server: irc.anarchyplanet.org / port: 6667]

anarchistnews now has an IRC server at https://irc.anarchyplanet.org!

The purpose of the server is to provide self-hosted space for real-time conversation about topics of interest to anarchists. The goal is open discourse, the only thing banned are those things hostile to an open, intelligent, and free discussion. We are generally post-left, anti-civ, and cynical about grand narratives BUT attempt to not be doctrinaire about any specifics. This is to only tell you what the tenor of the rooms will be rather than to tell you (or us) what we believe.

How to connect

Type irc.anarchyplanet.org into your browser--that's it!

You of course are welcome to connect with a client as well. There are several IRC clients out there (read here about a few). We cloak all IP addresses and whois requests are disabled. However, you should probably only use a client if you know what you're doing.

Security

If you have use the kiwiirc webclient then your IP address is obscured and unknown to anyone, even us. We do not store IP address logs or chat logs on the server. However, note that most clients by default store chat logs of any channel that a user is logged in to. This communication platform is only as secure as you are.

Comments

This is awesome. Thanks!

How easy and or safe is the anarchy planet for simply folk like me? do i need to do anything to keep anonymous from the state snoopers? Can I use tor to get to anarchy planet chatville?

if you use the browser client (by typing the url into your browser) it's as safe as using your browser. we hide all user info and if you use the browser your ip isn't even available to the server. (plus, it's mostly just shit talking , anyway). give it a try!

didn't work for me I tried 6669 and 7000 and got a server error.

I'm connected over SSL on 6667. Working for me.

Client = The individual person and program connecting
Browser Client = IRC program in a web browser

Might be best to learn some basic IT/networking stuff before jumping into the shark tank.

CORRECTION:

The port is 6697. Typing 666 was just too tempting for my fingers, I guess. Sorry!

6697

IRC is insecure if by safe you were meaning security and/or privacy. Stuff like xkeyscore has shown how easy it is to firgure out who you are regardless of using a vpn or not. Some networks on IRC have rules setup to block that don't allow tor. Full anonymity through IRC isn't possible at the moment. But, you're in luck. Since it will be mostly shitposts among shitposts or plots to set trashcans on fire, the ptb won't bother with it.

If you're not a techy, it's a waste of time to bother with irc. I think the kiwiirc is supposed make it simpler, but I'm not sure about that

'the browser client' mean?

if you click on this link it will take you to the chat in your web browser:

https://irc.anarchyplanet.org

Some slow-downs when connecting through port 6667, but keep trying and it might work.

Port is 6697

what a load of shit. the level of interaction is as mind-numbing as many of the comments in the threads. should i be surprised at this? many of the names are the same. damn shame. i hope it improves. what is so 'anarchist' about it? it's just crap in real time instead in posts!

What's so anarchist about YOU, ya fuckin' whiner!

Ask me shit.

the bits that are nice about this are so easily overrun by the silly and the sad.

thanks for trying folks, hope some of you get something out of it.

Chats will always be what they've been, I guess. Which isn't saying they're worthless or something. Actually paves way to better and more volatile, stimulaitng reading content than Fedbook of the chans. Somtimes have a hard time to follow, and there's always this tendency at doing exclusive convos between 2-3 people, even in the open (get a room, you gheys!). Beyond that, was nice to have it back, in a somewhat better form. Let's see how it floats.

I'm surprised, but this chat is actually good! It has lulls and your typical over-talkers but overall it's a lot better than alot of the chatter you see on the internet. Pretty excited to see how this goes.
