Woman allegedly drove through Elizabeth Quay, assaulted police

Video has emerged of a woman who allegedly drove her car onto a pedestrian walkway at Elizabeth Quay and grappled with police officers after she walked away from her vehicle.

WA Police said the woman drove a red Honda Civic onto steps near the water playground at the iconic Perth landmark about 6.40pm on Thursday.

There was a child under two years old in the vehicle. 

"Police were called and on arrival they located the female driver walking away from the vehicle," a police spokesman said.

"When police attempted to arrest the woman, it will be alleged she assaulted an officer, punching the officer to the head and kicking the officer's legs. 

"The officer received scratches to the face and bruising to the face and legs."

Witnesses told 9 News Perth there were about 50 people close by when the incident occurred. 

A 46-year-old woman from Thornlie was charged with assault public officer. She will appear before the Perth Magistrates Court on Friday.
