Police find body in search for missing Brisbane rower

Police found the body of a person in the Brisbane River on Thursday during the search for a missing Brisbane rower.

A Queensland Police spokeswoman confirmed police found the body on Thursday evening, but were struggling to retrieve it from the water.

The body was found in the river at West End.

The spokeswoman said it was too early to confirm if it was the body of missing rower Mark Roome.

Mr Roome, 63, went missing about 4.40am Wednesday when he was separated from his two fellow single scullers.

His companions found his upturned skull near West End, but there has been no sign of the father of four since.

Sister-in-law Christine Landy described the electrical engineer as a “gorgeous” man, the “most upbeat, beautiful person you could meet”, who would do everything for anybody.
