Tracy Jamal Morgan (born November 10, 1968) is an American actor and comedian best known for his eight seasons as a cast member on Saturday Night Live (1996–2003) and for his role as Tracy Jordan in the comedy series 30 Rock (2006–2013). He was nominated for an Emmy Award in 2009 for his work on 30 Rock. He has appeared in numerous films as an actor and voice actor.
Morgan was born in the Bronx and raised in a housing project in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. His father named him Tracy in honor of a platoon mate and friend who shipped off to Vietnam with him and was killed in action days later. He is the second-oldest of five children of homemaker Alicia (née Warden), and Jimmy Morgan, a musician who returned from military duty in the Vietnam War as a recovering heroin addict, causing him to leave the family when Morgan was six years old.
The target of bullies as a child, Morgan attended DeWitt Clinton High School. In 1985, at age 17 in his sophomore year, he learned his father had contracted AIDS from hypodermic needle use. His father died in November 1987, at age 39. Morgan married his girlfriend Sabina that year and dropped out of high school just four credits short of his diploma to care for his ailing father. Already raising their first son and living on welfare, Morgan sold crack cocaine with limited success, but began earning money performing comedy on the streets after his best friend was murdered. He said in 2009: "He would say to me, 'Yo, Tracy, man, you should be doing comedy.' A week later, he was murdered. And that for me, that was like my Vietnam. I had my survival guilt when I started to achieve success. Why I made it out and some guys didn't."
Kevin Nealon (/ˈniːlən/; born November 18, 1953) is an American actor and comedian, best known as a cast member on Saturday Night Live from 1986 to 1995, acting in several of the Happy Madison films, for playing Doug Wilson on the Showtime series Weeds, and providing the voice of the title character, Glenn Martin, on Glenn Martin, DDS.
Nealon was born in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of Kathleen M. (née Kimball) and Emmett F. Nealon, an aircraft company executive. A few months after he was born, the family moved to Bridgeport, Connecticut. He was raised Catholic, and graduated from St. Joseph High School in Trumbull, Connecticut, in 1971. Nealon graduated with a bachelor's degree in marketing from Sacred Heart University (and worked in a variety of part-time jobs while doing stand-up comedy).
Nealon debuted on network television doing a stand-up routine for The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson in 1984. On the September 24, 1985 nighttime syndicated episode of Sale of the Century, Nealon can be seen onstage congratulating his friend Tim Holleran on winning more than $150,000 in cash and prizes. In 1986, Saturday Night Live recruited his friend Dana Carvey, and Carvey in turn recommended Nealon. Both joined the cast that year, and Nealon became a full-time performer in the 1987-1988 season, and remained for nine seasons.
Crank Yankers was an American television show produced by Adam Carolla, Jimmy Kimmel and Daniel Kellison that featured actual crank calls made by show regulars and celebrity guests, and re-enacted onscreen by puppets for a visual aid to show the viewer what is happening in the call. The show premiered in 2002 on Comedy Central and returned to MTV2 on February 9, 2007, running again until March 30, 2007. The show screened in Australia on SBS Television and The Comedy Channel between 2003 and 2008.
The performers are given a basic outline of a premise by the writers, and call telephone numbers from a list of selected targets (known as "marks"). Using the basic premises, the performers improvise most of their lines, playing off of the responses of their marks, with the intention to keep them on the phone as long as possible.
With the exception of a few outside sources (including previous material from Jim Florentine and the Touch-Tone Terrorists), all the calls are made from Nevada. The Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 makes it illegal in most states to record telephone calls without both parties' consent. Under Nevada law, only one of the parties has to give consent (i.e., the caller), so prank calls can be recorded without the consent of the prank victims. One result of this was the series' schedule of creating and airing new episodes was fairly sporadic due to most of the celebrities living in Los Angeles, having Los Angeles-based jobs, and so were only periodically able to go to Las Vegas to make calls. Adam Carolla, for example, took his radio program to Las Vegas once or twice a year, and while there would record new calls for the program.
Anthony J. "Tony" Barbieri (born August 26, 1963, Framingham, Massachusetts) is an Italian American comedic writer, and performer. He is most famous for his appearances as the Jimmy Kimmel Live! character "Jake Byrd."
Barbieri is the writer of the monthly Monroe cartoon for Mad Magazine.
In 1999 he got his first writer's credit for television while working on The Man Show. Barbieri would go on to write for the sitcoms That's My Bush! and That '80s Show. In 2003 he wrote and starred in his first movie Windy City Heat. He would also be a writer and recurring character on Crank Yankers, playing Niles Standish.
Barbieri began writing for Jimmy Kimmel Live! in 2003, and in 2004 started appearing on the show as the character Jake Byrd. Byrd is good-natured man obsessed with celebrities, and his bits involve him satirizing excessive media attention to celebrity spectacles such as the Michael Jackson trial or the arrest of Paris Hilton. Byrd usually interacts with the fans while they are being interviewed by the media or inserts himself into press conferences. He has successfully fooled major media outlets into thinking he is a real person, including The New York Times, who quoted him in a May 1, 2004 article about the Michael Jackson trial, before running a redact five days later noting that he was a character. Despite this, the Times wrote again about him, as if he were a real person, during the 2007 O. J. Simpson robbery case.
Jim Florentine (born August 18, 1964) is an American stand-up comedian, actor, and television personality. He is best known for co-hosting That Metal Show on VH1 Classic, as well as voicing several Characters on Crank Yankers including Special Ed and Bobby Fletcher.
Currently, he is touring the country performing solo and with Don Jamieson.
In 1993, he began his career in comedy clubs in New York City.
Jim is one of seven kids who attended Catholic School at St Ambrose. He has stated in various interviews and in his stand-up act that he hated the experience. Jim wanted to be in a band growing up because of his love for heavy metal music but would often joke that he never had the talent to play an instrument. In his late teen years, he had drug and alcohol problems and was in and out of rehab a few times. He has stated his love of hard rock music set him on a straight path in life. Jim was later a DJ on his college radio station in Hazlet, NJ WCNJ. He later mentioned after seeing Andrew Dice Clay for the first time on a Rodney Dangerfield Comedy special, he wanted a career in stand-up comedy. He would often joke on air that marriage and kids were not for him, after his girlfriend of six years committed suicide in December 2006. In August 2007, while a guest on the Howard Stern Show, Jim Florentine asked co-host Robin Quivers to go on a date with him during a show segment. Due to the attention this garnered, Quivers became tight-lipped about the topic. On July 28, 2008, Quivers announced on the radio show that she and Florentine had ended their relationship.[14] She stated that the breakup was amicable, that Florentine was "genuine and honest," and that he was the one who initiated the breakup.[15].
