Environment and Energy
Bangladesh is one of the most vulnerable countries in the world to the effects of climate change. The loss of biodiversity, a rising sea level, devastating cyclones, and frequent floods and droughts are linked to the rise in global temperatures. The poor are disproportionately affected by these disasters, and lack access to crucial resources to adapt to emerging environmental threats.
Our Goals
Bangladesh has been investing in adaptive measures and creative solutions to make communities more environmentally resilient. UNDP’s support to the Government of Bangladesh emphasizes pro-poor development which will have a sustainable impact. This is done by helping the country to better control its greenhouse gas emissions, manage its natural resources, become more energy efficient and cope with climate change. UNDP ensures that sustainable environmental management lies at the heart of national policies and development planning.
Helping Bangladesh tackle climate change
Bangladesh has been identified by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change as one of the countries most vulnerable to rising sea levels and frequency and intensity of extreme weather events. UNDP is working with the government in tackling these issues. more

GREEN Brick (Improving Kiln Efficiency in Brick Making Industry)
This project is designed to remove barriers to the widespread adoption of energy efficient kilns (specialised ovens for brick making).more
-
Development of Sustainable Renewable Energy Power Generation
The objective of the Project is to reduce the annual growth rate of GHG emissions from the fossil fuel-based power generation by exploiting Bangladesh’s renewable energy resources for electricity generation. The basic approach of the Project will be to promote renewable energy in Bangladesh through the recently established Sustainable and Renewable Energy Development Authority (SREDA).more
