Don't Give Up on Me

Don't Give Up on Me is a studio album by R&B/Soul singer Solomon Burke, recorded and released in 2002 on Fat Possum Records. The album won the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Blues Album. It is noteworthy for the contributions of original and previously unreleased compositions by top-rank songwriters, the effect of which placed Burke back in the public eye for a time. Guest stars are Daniel Lanois, who plays electric guitar on "Stepchild", and The Blind Boys of Alabama, who feature on backing vocals for "None of Us Are Free". "None of Us Are Free" was also featured at the end of the sixth episode (Spin) of the second season of House. "Fast Train" was featured during the ending montage of the season three finale of The Wire.

The title track, written by the team of Dan Penn and Carson Whitsett with Hoy Lindsey, gained popularity (and introduced Burke to a new generation) when it was used several times on the popular primetime teen soap opera The O.C. as one of the signature song of adult couple Sandy and Kirsten Cohen, played by Peter Gallagher and Kelly Rowan. It became a staple of Burke's live performances and has been covered by Joe Cocker, as well as Peter Gallagher, who also performed the song on The O.C.

Only a Dream

"Only a Dream" is a song released and performed by the British rock band The Kinks. Written by the main songwriter of the band, Ray Davies, the song appeared on their 1993 album Phobia, the band's final LP.

Background

Ray Davies said of the song in a 1993 interview, "I think I kind of found my voice again on 'Only a Dream,' which I wrote on a plane to England after I decided that the album needed to have a little more humanity. It's odd that an artist who's supposed to have been around still gets intimidated by certain things, but I do, and I had to really get myself prepared to do that vocal. The night before I did, I went out and got rat-arsed drunk on wine. I was still shaking when I got to the studio the next morning, and I did the vocal in one take. It's only a pop song, but there's a lot of emotion in it and there's a lot of me in it."

Lyrics

In the lyrics of "Only a Dream", the singer falls in love with who he describes as "a young executive." He doesn't expect her to "even look at [him] or bother to glance [his] way, but she actually smiled at [him] and said 'Hi-ya handsome, have a good day.'" He starts to wonder if the event was real or "only a dream." On another day, the singer awaits his love to return, only to see her talking to another man, ignoring him entirely. He is crushed, but still wondering if the whole event was "only a dream."

Justice League and Justice League Unlimited are American animated series about a team of superheroes which ran from 2001 to 2006 on Cartoon Network. In April 2006, reruns began airing on Cartoon Network's sister channel Boomerang, and in Canada it is also shown on Teletoon every Friday night for Superfan Fridays. It is based on the Justice League and associated comic book characters published by DC Comics.

After the second season, the show is renamed Justice League Unlimited, has a vastly expanded cast of characters, and largely changes from two-part episodes to single-episode stand-alone stories that often intertwine to form long (even season-long) story arcs. Combined, there are a total of 91 episodes, along with two crossover episodes of Static Shock in which the League appears.

The show is the last in a series of animated features that together constitute what is known as the DC animated universe (though Batman Beyond and The Zeta Project take place later in the same continuity). A Dream (Common song)

"A Dream" is a single by rapper Common from the soundtrack to Freedom Writers. It is produced by will.i.am, who also sings the song's chorus. The song heavily samples Martin Luther King Jr.'s historical "I Have a Dream" speech, which relates to the song's lyrics about racism. The single release of "A Dream" includes two will.i.am tracks, "Colors" and "Bus Ride."

Music video

The video for the single contains scenes from the Freedom Writers movie (many of which feature Hilary Swank, its lead actress), mixed with partially animated sequences featuring will.i.am singing on a podium and Common rapping in hallways and rooms in front of stylized images of both the Holocaust and the Civil Rights Movement. Television footage of the "I Have a Dream" speech is displayed on monitors throughout the video. The imagery is intended to reinforce the song's messages of perseverance in the face of discrimination, and hopes for a more racially tolerant world.
