Josh Dun

Joshua William "Josh" Dun (born June 18, 1988) is an American musician. He is currently the drummer for the band Twenty One Pilots.

Early life

Dun was born in Columbus, Ohio, along with two sisters (Ashley and Abigail) and a brother (Jordan), and taught himself how to play drums when he was young. According to Dun, he was not really allowed to listen to music as a child but would sneak down to the music store once a week and ask for suggestions from the people there. Dun worked at the Guitar Center for three years, also working with Twenty One Pilots' former drummer Chris Salih.

Career

House of Heroes

Dun joined House of Heroes in March 2010, after the band's former drummer, Colin Rigsby, took a break to spend more time with his family. He came in after being recommended by Rigsby himself.

Dun took part of House of Heroes' live tour until October, when Rigsby subsequently returned to his duties.

Twenty One Pilots

In 2011, Dun went to a Twenty One Pilots' show upon invite by then-drummer Chris Salih, after listening to the band's original demo CD. He was impressed with the trio's performance. He eventually met the band's lead singer, Tyler Joseph, after the show, and a couple of days later, began to spend time together and build a friendship.

Theme music

Theme music is a piece that is often written specifically for a radio program, television program, video game or movie, and usually played during the intro, during title sequence and/or ending credits.

The phrase theme song or signature tune may also be used to refer to a signature song that has become especially associated with a particular performer or dignitary; often used as they make an entrance. The purpose of a theme song is often similar to that of a leitmotif. Such songs can also be used in other ways. One author has made extensive use of them in an effort to explore the feelings behind world views.

Purpose

The purpose of the music is to establish a mood for the show and to provide an audible cue that a particular show is beginning, which was especially useful in the early days of radio (See also interval signal). In some cases, including The Brady Bunch, Gilligan's Island, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, both versions of Land of the Lost (1974 and 1991), The Nanny and The Beverly Hillbillies the lyrics of the theme song provide some necessary exposition for people unfamiliar with the show.

Paiste

Paiste (pronounced Pie-Stee, the original Estonian and Finnish pronunciation is pie-ste [ˈpɑistɛ]) is a Swiss-based Estonian manufacturer and designer of cymbals. It is the world's third largest manufacturer of cymbals, gongs, and metal percussion. Paiste is an Estonian and Finnish word that means "shine". Their eponymous sunrise can be seen in the logos for their 2002 line and their Twenty line (discontinued in 2011).

History

The first Paiste cymbals were produced in 1906 by Estonian musician Michail Toomas Paiste in his instrument repair shop in Saint Petersburg, Russia, to customer orders. Toomas had served in the Czarist Guard, and retired in 1901 to open a music publishing business and music shop.

The cymbal making aspect of the business expanded with the passing years, despite the disruption of several moves necessitated by war, first to Tallinn, Estonia in 1917, where Toomas' son Michail M. Paiste decided to concentrate on cymbal production and export. In 1940 the family and the cymbal making operation moved to Poland, where they continued under extremely difficult conditions, and in 1945 to Germany. Finally in 1957 a new headquarters and production facility was established in Switzerland. The business was continued by Mihkel's sons Robert and Toomas, with both the Swiss and German operations as the main manufacturing centres.
