Morse code is a method of transmitting text information as a series of on-off tones, lights, or clicks that can be directly understood by a skilled listener or observer without special equipment. The International Morse Code encodes the ISO basic Latin alphabet, some extra Latin letters, the Arabic numerals and a small set of punctuation and procedural signals (prosigns) as standardized sequences of short and long signals called "dots" and "dashes", or "dits" and "dahs", as in amateur radio practice. Because many non-English natural languages use more than the 26 Roman letters, extensions to the Morse alphabet exist for those languages.
Each Morse code symbol represents either a text character (letter or numeral) or a prosign and is represented by a unique sequence of dots and dashes. The duration of a dash is three times the duration of a dot. Each dot or dash is followed by a short silence, equal to the dot duration. The letters of a word are separated by a space equal to three dots (one dash), and the words are separated by a space equal to seven dots. The dot duration is the basic unit of time measurement in code transmission. To increase the speed of the communication, the code was designed so that the length of each character in Morse varies approximately inversely to its frequency of occurrence in English. Thus the most common letter in English, the letter "E", has the shortest code, a single dot.
Morse is an archaic English word for the clasp of a cope.
It can also refer to:
In communications and information processing, code is a system of rules to convert information—such as a letter, word, sound, image, or gesture—into another form or representation, sometimes shortened or secret, for communication through a channel or storage in a medium. An early example is the invention of language, which enabled a person, through speech, to communicate what he or she saw, heard, felt, or thought to others. But speech limits the range of communication to the distance a voice can carry, and limits the audience to those present when the speech is uttered. The invention of writing, which converted spoken language into visual symbols, extended the range of communication across space and time.
The process of encoding converts information from a source into symbols for communication or storage. Decoding is the reverse process, converting code symbols back into a form that the recipient understands.
One reason for coding is to enable communication in places where ordinary plain language, spoken or written, is difficult or impossible. For example, semaphore, where the configuration of flags held by a signaller or the arms of a semaphore tower encodes parts of the message, typically individual letters and numbers. Another person standing a great distance away can interpret the flags and reproduce the words sent.
Katheryn Elizabeth "Katy" Hudson (born October 25, 1984), known professionally as Katy Perry, is an American singer, songwriter, and actress. After singing in church during her childhood, she pursued a career in gospel music as a teenager. Perry signed with Red Hill Records and released her debut studio album Katy Hudson in 2001, which was commercially unsuccessful. She moved to Los Angeles the following year to venture into secular music after Red Hill ceased operations. After being dropped by The Island Def Jam Music Group and Columbia Records, Perry signed a recording contract with Capitol Records in April 2007.
Perry rose to fame in 2008 with the release of the singles "I Kissed a Girl" – which sparked controversy for its homosexual themes – and "Hot n Cold" from her second album, a pop rock record titled One of the Boys. Her third album, Teenage Dream (2010), ventured into disco, and contained the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart-topping singles "California Gurls", "Teenage Dream", "Firework", "E.T.", and "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)" as well as the number-three single "The One That Got Away". The album became the first by a female artist to produce five number-one Billboard Hot 100 songs, and the second overall after Michael Jackson's album Bad. In March 2012, she reissued the album as Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection, which produced the songs "Part of Me" and "Wide Awake".
3Steps (pronounced: θriː stɛps) is a German-based contemporary artist collective between the twins Kai Harald Krieger (born March 15, 1980) and Uwe Harald Krieger (born March 15, 1980) and Joachim Pitt (born December 8, 1980).
The works of 3Steps have developed from mural art, graffiti art and street art. The spray can is the central media of 3Steps. The collective paints huge images on facades and murals, as well as several kinds of paintable media in the studio. Bright colors and the reflection of a modern society express the intention of the three friends.
In November 2014 3Steps received the “Kultur- und Kreativpilot Deutschland” (Cultural and Creative pilot of Germany) award by the Federal Republic of Germany. 3Steps lives and works in the University town of Giessen, central Germany.
3Steps was founded in fall 1998. The style of the collective quickly developed from the classic “New York Style Writing” graffiti and high art graffiti to artistic short stories on large-scale murals. The work of 3Steps can be found around the entire globe, from Giessen and Wetzlar via Munich and Berlin to London, Milan, Venice, L.A. and New York.

If you already know the CW alphabet but need to polish it up for speed use this practice video to help. Included are the pro-signs. Try writing it down, sending it or just saying it out loud. Code is sent at 20wpm. Never give up. Try everything and anything. Nothing works for everyone. Persons with this skill may prove very useful in times of disaster. Morse code use is not dead and probably never will be. Learning code can take years to fully master, but it can be quicker if you love doing it. Ham radio is the place to find cw in use all the time. Morse code is no longer required to get a license, but its so much fun , many just learn it anyways. I built this as a screensaver and taught myself cw. I converted it to video and I hope it helps some others. 73
A video here showing a few neat things I used myself to help in the learning of morse code. Not really breaking the bank, these little gadgets are useful to anyone who operates CW. Support HRC at paypal.me/hamradioconcepts/1 LIKE and share on facebook.com/hamradioconcepts

I've taken all the Morse code communications I could find from the night of the Titanic disaster and turned it into streaming text. It's painfully slow by today's standards of communications as it presents at about the speed the transmissions were made that night. I've removed the "dead air" time cutting the total time from about two hours to one. Morse code abbreviations have been included in the audio but the text is in English, for example the ship's ID code "MGY" will be heard but "TITANIC" will be read. "OM" will be heard but "OLD MAN" (meaning "buddy" or "friend") will be in the text. I've left the code "CQD" as it's very prominent and important. This was the common international distress signal at the time and stood for "ATTENTION ALL STATIONS" (CQ) "DISTRESS" (D). Titanic was no...

I did it. Here is a video explaining how I learned Morse code (CW) pretty quick using my own method, which for me actually worked better than what I tried from other recommendations. Everyone has their own learning pace, their own method that works, or their own method that sticks in their head without boring them. At least I am on the venture to yet another mode (one of the few i have not tried yet). Support my channel. A small donation of any amount through PayPal would help me bring more material to my channel.

This fascinating 1943 U.S. Navy training film shows "How to Signal" using flag hoists, semaphore, and blinker to present morse code messages. The film was produced by F.H. Hargove of the Prior Motion Picture Company in New York and supposedly narrated by "Radcliffe Hall" (like a pseudonym for a radio announcer). A review in "Motor Boating" magazine noted that "the film shows pictorially how to learn the codes in the International Flag, Semaphore and Blinker systems of Communication. Expert signal men in the U.S. service serve as instructors and demonstrate the correct methods of using these three methods. It is designed so that the film may be repeated again and again until the student becomes familiar with the signal flags and positions of the semaphore, and the light flashes of the blink...
