Avegant's Glyph was conceived of as a way to watch movies and play games in a head-mounted display, but its more interesting use is as a FPV viewer for camera-equipped drones. We check out the final production version of the Glyph and test it with the DJI Phantom 3 and Inspire 1 with head-tracking.

Pretty cool level by Optical. My favorite part has to be the drop with the dice. The coins are also pretty good as usual. Optical is once again quite creative with his coins, and they're not too easy. Btw, my solo demon level should be finished tomorrow or in 2 days :D

In this episode, the Roswell Flight Test Crew tries out the Glyph video headset from Avegant. Developed as a personal cinema display, the Glyph incorporates a pair of 720p high definition (HD) video displays into what at first glance could be mistaken for a pair of high-end headphones. The Glyph can be adjusted for individual wearers by changing the interpupillary distance (IPD) and focus separately for each eye, as well as the height of the nose pad. A total of four nose pads are included with the Glyph to customize the fit. With an internal battery, the Glyph is capable of accepting HDMI input directly from DJI Phantom and Inspire drones, as well as the Parrot Bebop and Disco, 3DR Solo and the newly released Amimon Connex ProSight FPV system. The crew tests First-Person View (FPV) flying with the Glyph and discovers it provides exceptional image clarity, comfort and utility: allowing the user to look above and below the display to maintain a degree of external situational awareness.

Head-mounted displays have received a lot of attention for their potential use as virtual reality devices, but most are still LCD or OLED panels strapped to your head. We saw Avegant's "virtual retinal display" prototype last year--a HMD that uses DLP mirrors to project images directly into your eyes. Checking in with Avegant at CES, we look at their latest prototype chat with them about their final product plans.

Glyph
In typography, a glyph /ˈɡlɪf/ is an elemental symbol within an agreed set of symbols, intended to represent a readable character for the purposes of writing. As such, glyphs are considered to be unique marks that collectively add up to the spelling of a word, or otherwise contribute to a specific meaning of what is written, with that meaning dependent on cultural and social usage.
For example, in most languages written in any variety of the Latin alphabet the dot on a lower-case i is not a glyph because it does not convey any distinction, and an i in which the dot has been accidentally omitted is still likely to be recognized correctly. In Turkish, however, it is a glyph because that language has two distinct versions of the letter i, with and without a dot.
In Japanese syllabaries, a number of the characters are made up of more than one separate mark, but in general these separate marks are not glyphs because they have no meaning by themselves. However, in some cases, additional marks fulfill the role of diacritics, to differentiate distinct characters. Such additional marks constitute glyphs.

In this episode, the Roswell Flight Test Crew tries out the Glyph video headset from Avegant. Developed as a personal cinema display, the Glyph incorporates a pair of 720p high definition (HD) video displays into what at first glance could be mistaken for a pair of high-end headphones. The Glyph can be adjusted for individual wearers by changing the interpupillary distance (IPD) and focus separately for each eye, as well as the height of the nose pad. A total of four nose pads are included with the Glyph to customize the fit. With an internal battery, the Glyph is capable of accepting HDMI input directly from DJI Phantom and Inspire drones, as well as the Parrot Bebop and Disco, 3DR Solo and the newly released Amimon Connex ProSight FPV system. The crew tests First-Person View (FPV) flying with the Glyph and discovers it provides exceptional image clarity, comfort and utility: allowing the user to look above and below the display to maintain a degree of external situational awareness.
