Ludwig van Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 23 in F minor, Op. 57 (colloquially known as the Appassionata, meaning "passionate" in Italian) is among the three famous piano sonatas of his middle period (the others being the Waldstein, Op. 53 and Les Adieux, Op. 81a); it was composed during 1804 and 1805, and perhaps 1806, and was dedicated to Count Franz von Brunswick. The first edition was published in February 1807 in Vienna.
Unlike the early Sonata No. 8, Pathétique, the Appassionata was not named during the composer's lifetime, but was so labeled in 1838 by the publisher of a four-hand arrangement of the work.
One of his greatest and most technically challenging piano sonatas, the Appassionata was considered by Beethoven to be his most tempestuous piano sonata until the twenty-ninth piano sonata (known as the Hammerklavier). 1803 was the year Beethoven came to grips with the irreversibility of his progressively deteriorating hearing.
An average performance of the entire Appassionata sonata lasts about twenty-three minutes.
F minor is a minor scale based on F, consisting of the pitches F, G, A♭, B♭, C, D♭, and E♭. The harmonic minor raises the E♭ to E♮. Its key signature has four flats.
Its relative major is A-flat major, and its parallel major is F major.
Two famous pieces in the key of F minor are Beethoven's Appassionata Sonata, and Haydn's Symphony No. 49 in F minor, La Passione.
Glenn Gould once said if he could be any key, he would be F minor, because "it's rather dour, halfway between complex and stable, between upright and lascivious, between gray and highly tinted...There is a certain obliqueness."
A piano sonata is a sonata written for a solo piano. Piano sonatas are usually written in three or four movements, although some piano sonatas have been written with a single movement (Scarlatti, Scriabin, Medtner), two movements (Haydn), five (Brahms' Third Piano Sonata) or even more movements. The first movement is generally composed in sonata form.
In the Baroque era, the use of the term "sonata" generally referred to either the sonata da chiesa (church sonata) or sonata da camera (chamber sonata), both of which were sonatas for various instruments (usually one or more violins plus basso continuo). The keyboard sonata was relatively neglected by most composers.
The sonatas of Domenico Scarlatti (of which there are over 500) were the hallmark of the Baroque keyboard sonata, though they were for the most part unpublished during Scarlatti's lifetime. The majority of these sonatas are in one-movement binary form, both sections being in the same tempo and utilizing the same thematic material. These sonatas are prized for both their technical difficulty and their musical and formal ingenuity. The influence of Spanish folk music is evident in Scarlatti's sonatas.
Ludwig van Beethoven (i/ˈlʊdvɪɡ væn ˈbeɪˌtoʊvən/, /ˈbeɪtˌhoʊvən/; German: [ˈluːtvɪç fan ˈbeːtˌhoˑfn̩]; baptised 17 December 1770 – 26 March 1827) was a German composer. A crucial figure in the transition between the Classical and Romantic eras in Western art music, he remains one of the most famous and influential of all composers. His best-known compositions include 9 symphonies, 5 piano concertos, 1 violin concerto, 32 piano sonatas, 16 string quartets, his great Mass the Missa solemnis and an opera, Fidelio.
Born in Bonn, then the capital of the Electorate of Cologne and part of the Holy Roman Empire, Beethoven displayed his musical talents at an early age and was taught by his father Johann van Beethoven and by composer and conductor Christian Gottlob Neefe. At the age of 21 he moved to Vienna, where he began studying composition with Joseph Haydn, and gained a reputation as a virtuoso pianist. He lived in Vienna until his death. By his late 20s his hearing began to deteriorate, and by the last decade of his life he was almost totally deaf. In 1811 he gave up conducting and performing in public but continued to compose; many of his most admired works come from these last 15 years of his life.
A surname or family name is a name added to a given name. In many cases, a surname is a family name and many dictionaries define "surname" as a synonym of "family name". In the western hemisphere, it is commonly synonymous with last name because it is usually placed at the end of a person's given name.
In most Spanish-speaking and Portuguese-speaking countries, two or more last names (or surnames) may be used. In China, Hungary, Japan, Korea, Madagascar, Taiwan, Vietnam, and parts of India, the family name is placed before a person's given name.
The style of having both a family name (surname) and a given name (forename) is far from universal. In many countries, it is common for ordinary people to have only one name or mononym.
The concept of a "surname" is a relatively recent historical development, evolving from a medieval naming practice called a "byname". Based on an individual's occupation or area of residence, a byname would be used in situations where more than one person had the same name.

The Appassionata is by far and away Beethoven’s darkest sonata: it is an antipode to the luminous Waldstein, which came just 2 years before. It's probably the greatest sonata Beethoven had written up to this point: it is unabashedly expressionist, distorting harmony, form, and texture all for the sole purpose of achieving a certain kind of emotional effect, creating huge gestural blocks of sound that are shocking in their directness – and which achieve in the end a relentless and jagged sense of tragedy. The only respite comes in the second movement, which hints at the sort of transcendental effects Beethoven would achieve many years later in the very last sonatas. The Appassionata needs no introduction, and besides it’s impossible to explain everything significant about it here, so I’ll just point out a few relevant features (see below). - The extraordinary expressiveness of the work. It was never played in Beethoven’s lifetime: critics found it “incomprehensibly abrupt and dark.” - The stark minimalism of the 1st movement’s opening theme, which consists of an arpeggiated F minor chord followed immediately by the Neapolitan, Gb major. - The importance of Neapolitan harmony to the entire work. (Note its repeated and dramatic use in the 3rd movement, and the transpositional opportunities it offers.) - The high degree of similarity between the 1st and 2nd themes in the 1st movements (a big step away from the classical form) - The way the 2nd theme of...

Looking ahead
I’d want to see your world burn
Look in my head
Certain things I can’t figure out
Lend me your hand
Oh, one who makes the world turn
Tell me your plans
I am so misguided, lost and must not think aloud or on my own
I want to meet God
Spit in his disembodied face
I live in the now
Not imaginary past times
Divine judgment at death
Hypocritical actions of
Discriminative
And forcibly violent
Against others with faith just as blind as their own
Depressed when they compare themselves to God
Love thy neighbors, and thy enemy…
Yet may their blood spill if they preach another name!
Speak Religiously
Talk to me, now successfully negating the omnipotence of your so called man in the sky
He has made people feeble and weak, complasive, fanatical, unreasonable in moral
Valuations, self-loathing; slaves to a system that causes more harm than good
(Mindless fools that use a lack of empirical knowledge to affirm God)
Can we affirm God? Can we do this?
So let’s go chopping off heads
I wouldn’t settle for less
Let’s go chopping off heads
I wouldn’t settle for less than that
I believe I know wrong from right
We seem to forget about the middle ages
Nailing motherfuckers right to boards
Impaling all the men who won’t conform
We will have nothing of pagans
We will have them exterminated
We have the threat eliminated
Your fruit of afterlife now negated
This is the process of the light
This is the progress of a lie
Lucifer’s eyes
This is a hymn
You’re afraid of a mind
Full of knowledge
So you prey on the weak
The ones so lost and hopeless and without family
It’s the money your God needs
Filling the pockets of pastors and preachers molesting our kids
