What the choc? Cadbury issues recall over hot-ticket item Caramilk

A limited edition chocolate variety selling for up to $80 on auction sites online has been recalled by Cadbury.

The chocolate giant's 190-gram Caramilk block has been a hot-ticket item, with consumers buying up whole boxes of the sweet treat, leaving others empty-handed.

Cadbury has issued a recall of 190gm blocks of Caramilk.

Cadbury has issued a recall of 190gm blocks of Caramilk.

But the chocolate bars, which have been on sale at Coles, Woolworths, IGA and independent retailers in WA, have been found to contain "small, flexible pieces of food-grade plastic".

The recall affects blocks with best-before dates of 17/01/2019 and 21/01/2019.

A machinery fault during the manufacturing process is understood to have been responsible for the fault, with Cadbury warning Caramilk blocks containing the plastic could cause minor injury if consumed.

"Our analysis of the samples received to date has determined that this product does not appear to pose a serious health or food safety risk, but a recall has been initiated to prevent the risk of minor injury." the company said in a statement.

"Consumers should not consume the affected product and return it to the place of purchase for a full refund."
