India is the second most populous country in the world, with over 1.277 billion people (2015), more than a sixth of the world's population. Already containing 17.5% of the world's population, India is projected to be the world's most populous country by 2022, surpassing China, its population reaching 1.6 billion by 2050. Its population growth rate is 1.2%, ranking 94th in the world in 2013. The Indian population had reached the billion mark by 1998.
India has more than 50% of its population below the age of 25 and more than 65% below the age of 35. It is expected that, in 2020, the average age of an Indian will be 29 years, compared to 37 for China and 48 for Japan; and, by 2030, India's dependency ratio should be just over 0.4.
India has more than two thousand ethnic groups, and every major religion is represented, as are four major families of languages (Indo-European, Dravidian, Austroasiatic and Sino-Tibetan languages) as well as two language isolates (the Nihali language spoken in parts of Maharashtra and the Burushaski language spoken in parts of Jammu and Kashmir).
India, officially the Republic of India (Bhārat Gaṇarājya), is a country in South Asia. It is the seventh-largest country by area, the second-most populous country with over 1.2 billion people, and the most populous democracy in the world. Bounded by the Indian Ocean on the south, the Arabian Sea on the south-west, and the Bay of Bengal on the south-east, it shares land borders with Pakistan to the west;China, Nepal, and Bhutan to the north-east; and Myanmar (Burma) and Bangladesh to the east. In the Indian Ocean, India is in the vicinity of Sri Lanka and the Maldives; in addition, India's Andaman and Nicobar Islands share a maritime border with Thailand and Indonesia.
Home to the ancient Indus Valley Civilisation and a region of historic trade routes and vast empires, the Indian subcontinent was identified with its commercial and cultural wealth for much of its long history. Four religions—Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Sikhism—originated here, whereas Zoroastrianism, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam arrived in the 1st millennium CE and also shaped the region's diverse culture. Gradually annexed by and brought under the administration of the British East India Company from the early 18th century and administered directly by the United Kingdom after the Indian Rebellion of 1857, India became an independent nation in 1947 after a struggle for independence that was marked by non-violent resistance led by Mahatma Gandhi.
Muslims constitute the world's second largest religious group. According to a 2010 study and released January 2011, Islam has 1.7 billion adherents, making up over 22% of the world population. According to another study in 2015 Islam has 1.7 billion adherents. Most Muslims are either of two denominations: Sunni (85-86%) or Shia (12–13%).
Islam is the dominant religion in the Middle East, North Africa, the Horn of Africa, the Sahel, and some parts of Asia. Large communities of Muslims are also found in China, the Balkans, India, and Russia. Other parts of the world host large Muslim immigrant communities; in Western Europe, for instance, Islam is the second largest religion after Christianity, where it represents 6% of the total population.
Historically, Islam was divided into three major religious denominations well known as Sunni, Khawarij and Shī‘ah. Nowadays, Sunnis constitute more than 85% of the overall Muslim population while the Shi'as are slightly more than 12%.
Islam is a minority religion in India, with only 14.2% of the country's population or roughly 172 million people identifying as adherents (2011 census). Islam first came to the western coast of India with Arab traders as early as the 7th century AD to coastal Malabar and the Konkan-Gujarat.Cheraman Juma Masjid in Kerala is thought to be the first mosque in India, built in 629 AD by Malik lbn Dinar. Following an expedition from the governor of Bahrain to Bharuch in the 7th century AD, immigrant Arab and Persian trading communities from South Arabia and the Persian Gulf began settling in coastal Gujarat. Islam arrived in north India in the 12th century with Turkic invasions and has since become a part of India's religious and cultural heritage. Over the centuries, there has been significant integration of Hindu and Muslim cultures across India and the Muslims have played a prominent role in India's economic rise and cultural influence.
Jammu and Kashmir (i/ˈdʒæmuː ənd ˌkæʃˈmɪər, ˈdʒʌ-, ˈkæʃmɪər/) is a state in northern India. It is located mostly in the Himalayan mountains, and shares a border with the states of Himachal Pradesh and Punjab to the south. Jammu and Kashmir has an international border with China in the north and east, and the Line of Control separates it from the Pakistan-controlled territories of Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan in the west and northwest respectively. The state has special autonomy under Article 370 of the Constitution of India.
A part of the erstwhile Princely State of Kashmir and Jammu, the region is the subject of a territorial conflict among China, India and Pakistan. The western districts of the former princely state known as Azad Kashmir and the northern territories known as Gilgit-Baltistan have been under Pakistani control since 1947. The Aksai Chin region in the east, bordering Tibet, has been under Chinese control since 1962.
Jammu and Kashmir consists of three regions: Jammu, the Kashmir Valley and Ladakh. Srinagar is the summer capital, and Jammu is the winter capital. The Kashmir valley is famous for its beautiful mountainous landscape, and Jammu's numerous shrines attract tens of thousands of Hindu pilgrims every year. Ladakh, also known as "Little Tibet", is renowned for its remote mountain beauty and Buddhist culture.

Demographics will decide the world's history within the next decades. 2045 is the year in which, as the U.S. Census Bureau projects, Whites will become a minority in their own country. The same trend is observable in Europe. In the eighties these continents began their transformation from relatively monolithic into multi-ethnic or multicultural societies, which resulted in the rapid increase in the Latino population in the US, and the influx of immigrants from Africa and Asia in Europe. The academia and the ruling establishment believed that the different ethnic groups that are arriving in Europe and the US would blend into the indigenous communities and dissolve within one or two generations, adopting the superior Western values and norms because these are allegedly universal. Malthus Miffed: Are People the Problem, the Solution, or Both? An Introduction to Demography and Populations Study through an Examination of the World's Population Professor Joel Cohen: Abby Rockefeller Mauzé Professor of Populations, Rockefeller University, Mathematical Biologist, Columbia University In the next fifty years the world will face population problems that it has never faced before. Billions will live in mega slums without access to clean water or medical care. In his lecture, Professor Joel Cohen teaches you how demography can provide answers to the life or death questions caused by the world's swelling population and dwindling resources. Can we prevent an outcome where wealthy western countries are in permanent population decline, while third world cities into swell into...
*Note: Audio is unclear from 2:27 - 3:35* More than half of India’s population is under 25 years old, and nearly two thirds under 35. This 'youth bulge' could present considerable opportunities in a globalised economy, given the ageing populations of many other nations. Yet without an institutional environment conducive to development, India may not be able to capitalise on this demographic dividend. Can Australia help? There are a number of ways India might partner with Australian government agencies and non-government organisations to engage and recruit India youth to drive positive change. The Director of the Australia India Institute, Professor Craig Jeffrey, examined India’s 'youth bulge' in a talk on Monday, 23 November 2015, in the Yasuko Hiraoka Myer (YHM) Room of the Sidney Myer...
From examining population trends, can we predict what tomorrow's society will look like?: http://www.gresham.ac.uk/lectures-and-events/the-shape-of-things-to-come-how-our-changing-demographic-structure-will-shape Much attention is given to the total number of people living on the planet but less is given to the shape of the demographic profile of countries. Many countries are going through rapid demographic shifts. Some like the looming crisis of ageing in China are well known but countries as diverse as Iran, South and North Korea, Brazil and South Africa will be profoundly influenced by their current demographic shape. Within Europe, there are substantial differences between where countries will be in 15 to 30 years time; the UK will, for example, be significantly different from Germa...

I discuss some data that I think is most relevant and important for people to understand about Ireland's long term future. I get into economic realities and their long term impact as well as what trends are coming regarding aging and the loss of our young people. I discuss the culture of incompetence and group think that permeates the political and media classes. This is a different approach to my standard videos but I wanted to try something different. I hope you find something of value.
With dynamic economies, a quarter of the world's land and 40% of human population, Brazil, Russia, India and China (the BRIC countries) have the potential to dominate the world economy by the middle of this century. What is the role of demographics that will determine each country's capacity for robust growth? Each one of the BRICs faces a different population dynamic.
