A&M Records was an American historical record label. A&M was formerly an independent label founded by Herb Alpert and Jerry Moss (which the name A&M also stood for the last names of the label founders Alpert and Moss) in 1962.
Due to the success A&M released, the label garnered interest and was acquired by PolyGram in 1989 and began distributing releases from Polydor Ltd. from the UK. Throughout its operations, A&M housed well-known acts such as Captain & Tennille, Sting, Bryan Adams, Burt Bacharach, Liza Minnelli, The Carpenters, Paul Williams, Janet Jackson, Cat Stevens, Carole King, Amy Grant, Joan Baez, The Police, CeCe Peniston, Soundgarden, and Sheryl Crow.
As PolyGram was acquired by Seagram and dissolved into Universal Music Group in 1998, A&M's operations were ceased in January 1999 when it was merged with Geffen and Interscope Records to form the record company Interscope Geffen A&M Records. In 2007, Interscope announced that the A&M name was revived and was to be merged with Octone Records to form A&M Octone Records which operated until 2013, when A&M Octone was folded into Interscope.
A&M may refer to:
Herbert "Herb" Alpert (born March 31, 1935) is an American musician most associated with the group variously known as Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass, Herb Alpert's Tijuana Brass, or TJB. Alpert is also a recording industry executive, the "A" of A&M Records, a recording label he and business partner Jerry Moss founded and eventually sold to PolyGram. Alpert has also created abstract expressionist paintings and sculpture over two decades, which are publicly displayed on occasion. Alpert and wife Lani Hall are substantial philanthropists through the operation of the Herb Alpert Foundation.
Alpert's musical accomplishments include five No. 1 albums and 28 albums total on the Billboard Album chart, nine Grammy Awards, fourteen platinum albums, and fifteen gold albums. As of 1996, Alpert had sold 72 million albums worldwide. Alpert is the only recording artist to hit No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 pop chart as both a vocalist ("This Guy's in Love with You", 1968) and an instrumentalist ("Rise", 1979).

Interscope Geffen A&M Records (sometimes abbreviated as IGA) is an American record company. Its parent company is the Universal Music Group, a subsidiary of Paris-based media conglomerate Vivendi S.A.
Interscope Geffen A&M Records was established in 1999. A merger of the Polygram-owned labels Geffen and A&M and Universal's Interscope, it followed the 1998 purchase of PolyGram Records by Seagram, then the parent of Universal Music Group.
As a result of the merger, a significant percentage of artists and bands were dropped from A&M and Geffen, and though both continued to exist as labels, 280 jobs were eliminated and A&M's Charlie Chaplin lot offices were closed. The reorganization, expected to produce $300 million in savings annually, was described by the Los Angeles Times as underscoring the "changing economics and direction of the music business."
As independent labels, A&M and Geffen were revered and had achieved substantial commercial and artistic success. Both had been sold by their founders, however, and both had suffered from budget restraints and unproductive band signings over the previous years. At the time of the merger neither label had records in the Billboard Top 40 while Interscope had "defined the new sound of young America" with hit records from artists including Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Tupac Shakur, Nine Inch Nails, No Doubt, Limp Bizkit, and Bush, among others. Interscope co-founders Jimmy Iovine and Ted Field were named co-chairmen of IGA at its launch.

This extremely rare stunning video was shown around the 1966 era. Video compiles of Tijuana Taxi, The Lonely Bull, Taste of Honey and Zobra the Greek. Enjoy. P.S. I had the once in a lifetime opportunity to see Herb and Lani play at Blues Alley in Georgetown Washington DC 12 May 2008. The show was absolutely spectacular. After all these years, they both still have it: the skills and the love. Truly a remarkable show. Herb and Lani, thanks to all of the wonderful years of warming our hearts with your great art work. You both are truly blessed as well as I was at your show.

Bell and James was an American soul group from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania formed by Leroy Bell on (drums, guitar) and Casey James (guitar, bass, keyboards). Bell's uncle Thom Bell got them signed to Gamble & Huff as songwriters for Philadelphia International Records. They wrote tunes for Elton John, MFSB, The O'Jays, Gladys Knight & the Pips, Freda Payne, Phyllis Hyman, The Three Degrees, and others, before A&M; Records took notice and signed them to a full album deal in 1978. "Nikki" is a song composed, arranged and conducted by Burt Bacharach and is dedicated to his late daughter Nikki. Burt Freeman Bacharach is an American composer, songwriter, record producer, pianist, and singer. A six-time Grammy Award winner and three-time Academy Award winner, he is known for his popular hit songs and compositions from the late 1950s through the 1980s, many with lyrics written by Hal David. Most of Bacharach & David hits were written specifically for and performed by Dionne Warwick, but earlier associations (from 1957–63) saw the composing duo work with Marty Robbins, Perry Como, Gene McDaniels, and Jerry Butler. Following the initial success of these collaborations, Bacharach went on to write hits for Gene Pitney, Cilla Black, Dusty Springfield, Jackie DeShannon, Bobb...

Along with Isaac Hayes, White is considered by Allmusic.com as a pioneer of disco music in the early 1970s. " I did this demo back in the early 80's as the start of what was to be a second album on A&M; records... but they said the song wasn't a hit. My Brother's The Whispers thought differently, and said yes we want to record it... and we want you to produce it... the rest is history. 1.3 million + copies sold and it's easy to see why A&M; records is no longer around... like Scotty and Walter told me..."This song is timeless"... what a Blessing"

"Europa (Earth's Cry Heaven's Smile)" is an instrumental from the Santana album Amigos, written by Carlos Santana and Tom Coster. It is one of Santana's most popular compositions and it reached the top in the Spanish Singles Chart in July 1976. Upon seeing a friend suffering a bad experience whilst high on mescaline, Santana composed a piece titled "The Mushroom Lady's Coming to Town." This precursor contained the first lick to "Europa." The piece was put away and not touched for some time. When Santana was touring with Earth, Wind & Fire in Manchester, England, he played this tune again, this time with Tom Coster who helped him with some of the chords and thus Europa was born. It was renamed as "Europa (Earth's Cry Heaven's Smile)". The 16-bar chord progression follows the Circle of Fi...

Woke up this mornin', I couldn't find the doorknob
I tripped over the bedpost and I hit my head
I got a revelation, it struck me as funny
My baby wasn't near me, and neither was my money!
Is this what I live for?
Cheap thrills and deceit
but what the HELL is that smell?
I think I'll go brush my teeth!
I feel a little moisture in between my Jockeys
I jump into the shower and I cleanse myself
I feel a little hungry, so I eat a bowl of cornflakes
I turn on the network, oh shit! There's been another earthquake!!
Is this what I live for?
To go down with the ship?
It's almost time for the Jetsons
I think I'll go smoke that ...
Sally wants to be a rich girl
She wants a part on TV
Sally wants to be a rich girl
she don't want to depend on me
But I gave her all my love and I gave her all my time
And ever since she walked out the door the girl is always on my mind
I never had enough to buy her pearls or even diamond rings
I never had any money to buy her any of those things
I need the money
To make her happy
I need the money
To make her mine
I need the money
To make her happy
I need the money
To make her mine
Sally wants to be a rich girl
she don't want to depend on me
Sally wants to be a rich girl
When the earth stopped shakin' I heard the doorbell ringin'
I looked out through the peephole and it was only the mailman
He wants to give me a letter, it wasn't very funny
My rich uncle just croaked, but he left me all that money!
Is this what I live for?
To live life like a king?
Hey - that might be Sally on the phone right now -
I think I'll just let it ring!!
Oh Mighty Jesus!
Sally girl was walkin' down the street without a care
walkin' home with any guy she meets anywhere
Besides, your little game really wasn't very clever
next time, Sally, you should think it out better!
Oh honey!
All that money!
Oh honey!
All that money!
I'm rich!
I'm rich!
