The Preamble to the United States Constitution is a brief introductory statement of the Constitution's fundamental purposes and guiding principles. It states in general terms, and courts have referred to it as reliable evidence of, the Founding Fathers' intentions regarding the Constitution's meaning and what they hoped the Constitution would achieve.
The Preamble was placed in the Constitution during the last days of the Constitutional Convention by the Committee on Style, which wrote its final draft. It was not proposed or discussed on the floor of the convention beforehand. The initial wording of the preamble did not refer to the people of the United States, rather, it referred to people of the various states, which was the norm. In earlier documents, including the 1778 Treaty of Alliance with France, the Articles of Confederation, and the 1783 Treaty of Paris recognizing American independence, the word "people" was not used, and the phrase the United States was followed immediately by a listing of the states, from north to south. The change was made out of necessity, as the Constitution provided that whenever the popularly elected ratifying conventions of nine states gave their approval, it would go into effect for those nine, irrespective of whether any of the remaining states ratified.
The Sunday People is a British tabloid Sunday newspaper, founded as The People on 16 October 1881.
It is published by the Trinity Mirror Group, and shares a website with the Mirror papers. In July 2011 it had an average Sunday circulation of 806,544. By January 2014 the circulation had shrunk to 374,820. Despite its tagline claim to be a "truly independent" newspaper, The People endorsed the Labour Party at the 2015 general election on the recommendation of polling data from its readers.
A people is a plurality of persons considered as a whole, as is the case with an ethnic group or nation. Collectively, for example, the contemporary Frisians and Danes are two related Germanic peoples, while various Middle Eastern ethnic groups are often linguistically categorized as the Semitic people. See the list of contemporary ethnic groups for more examples.
Various republics govern, or claim to govern, in the name of the people. Both the Roman Republic and the Roman Empire used the Latin term Senatus Populusque Romanus, (the Senate and People of Rome). This term was fixed to Roman legionary standards, and even after the Roman Emperors achieved a state of total personal autarchy, they continued to wield their power in the name of the Senate and People of Rome.
A People's Republic is typically a Marxist or socialist one-party state that claims to govern on behalf of the people. Populism is another umbrella term for various political tendencies that claim to represent the people, usually with an implication that they serve the common people instead of the elite.
A Tribe Called Quest was an American hip hop group that was formed in 1985, and was composed of MC/producer Q-Tip, MC Phife Dawg aka Phife Diggy (Malik Taylor), and DJ/producer Ali Shaheed Muhammad. A fourth member, rapper Jarobi White, left the group after their first album in 1991. He continued to contribute to the band sporadically before rejoining for their 2006 reunion. Along with De La Soul, the group was a central part of the Native Tongues Posse, and enjoyed the most commercial success out of all the groups to emerge from that collective. Many of their songs, such as "Bonita Applebum", "Can I Kick It?", "I Left My Wallet in El Segundo", "Scenario", "Check the Rhime", "Jazz (We've Got)", "Award Tour" and "Electric Relaxation" are regarded as classics. The group released five albums between 1990 and 1998 and disbanded in 1998. In 2006, the group reunited and toured the US. The group is regarded as pioneers of alternative hip hop music, having helped to pave the way for many innovative artists.
India, officially the Republic of India (Bhārat Gaṇarājya), is a country in South Asia. It is the seventh-largest country by area, the second-most populous country with over 1.2 billion people, and the most populous democracy in the world. Bounded by the Indian Ocean on the south, the Arabian Sea on the south-west, and the Bay of Bengal on the south-east, it shares land borders with Pakistan to the west;China, Nepal, and Bhutan to the north-east; and Myanmar (Burma) and Bangladesh to the east. In the Indian Ocean, India is in the vicinity of Sri Lanka and the Maldives; in addition, India's Andaman and Nicobar Islands share a maritime border with Thailand and Indonesia.
Home to the ancient Indus Valley Civilisation and a region of historic trade routes and vast empires, the Indian subcontinent was identified with its commercial and cultural wealth for much of its long history. Four religions—Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Sikhism—originated here, whereas Zoroastrianism, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam arrived in the 1st millennium CE and also shaped the region's diverse culture. Gradually annexed by and brought under the administration of the British East India Company from the early 18th century and administered directly by the United Kingdom after the Indian Rebellion of 1857, India became an independent nation in 1947 after a struggle for independence that was marked by non-violent resistance led by Mahatma Gandhi.

The multicultural Indian society seems to be at an inflection point. While most of the youth think it's okay to have sex before marriage, around 80 per cent continue to adhere to the age-old process of arranged marriages. Moving with the times, the top court of the country ruled that live-in relationships in India are now acceptable and not taboo yet the censor board just recent expressed discomfort at the word "intercourse" in an upcoming movie. On this episode of We The People, we ask: Is female sexuality still hostage to the society's patriarchal structure? Is "modern" India ready to talk about sex or is Indian modernism still being stifled by a conservative baggage? During the 1970's when this cartoon was aired for the first time to the American people; the American society was a good society that put America first. We taught our children what it is to be an American. Today that no longer is a priority; unlimited immigration without assimilation and anti-American Communists that refuse to follow the U.S. Constitution are destroying what was once a great Nation. And what do we do? Nothing. We are no longer a Nation, we have become a Country filled with aliens from every third world country from across the globe. Since 2014, there has been a deluge of opposition leaders who have found home in the BJP, six Congress MLAs from Gujarat being the latest. The BJP now has governments in 18 out of 29 states. With Nitish deserting the RJD and joining hands with the BJP in Bihar, the Opposition seems to have lost the one face that could have led them against the BJP in 2019. On this episode of We The People, we ask: with Congress leaders critical of their central leadership, is it time for the Grand Old Party to seek change at the top? Seven decades ago, India threw off its yoke of colonialism and bondage. The India of then was not a homogenous entity nor is the India of today. All religions, castes, classes, ages and genders came together to fight for their freedom. Ironically, the free India of the 21st century continues to bicker over the definition of nationalism. On this episode of We The People, we ask: are symbols like war tanks and national flags enough to instill nationalism in the citizens? More than 70 children lost their lives in a hospital in Uttar Pradesh's Gorakhpur last week due to an alleged shortage of oxygen. The UP health minister maintains that such deaths in the month of August are a yearly feature for Gorakhpur, the UP government has denied any dearth of oxygen. The Centre, this week, told Parliament that the concept of marital rape does not apply in India as marriage is treated as sacred here. The government also said that “presently there is no proposal to bring any amendment to the IPC in this regard.” Despite Law Commission's report in 2000 and Justice Verma panel's recommendations in 2013, marital rape continues to be unrecognised by law. Parliamentary panel has said no to legal recognition of marital rape saying it has "the potential of destroying the institution of marriage". A 27-year-old marital rape survivor moved the Supreme Court to declare marital rape a criminal offence, but the court refused to entertain the petition saying it can’t decide on an individual case. On this episode of We The People, we ask: Was Gauri's killing ideologically motivated or is speculation about the killers doing disservice to the investigation? What does this murder mean for freedom of speech in India ? Is the space for dissent shrinking in the largest democracy in the world? More than 70 children lost their lives in a hospital in Uttar Pradesh's Gorakhpur last week due to an alleged shortage of oxygen. The UP health minister maintains that such deaths in the month of August are a yearly feature for Gorakhpur, the UP government has denied any dearth of oxygen. In May this year, a CAG report had warned of glaring technical shortages with many hospitals in the country including the hospital in question. On this episode of We The People, we ask: Is an expenditure of 1.16% of the GDP enough for an already crumbling health care? Has the public sector of a welfare country like India failed to provide adequate care for its people? Is the proposed PPP model the solution in waiting for India? Maharashtra government has banned beef in the state. The ML Khattar government in Haryana is likely to be next where the BJP manifesto in the state equated cow slaughter with homicide. On We The People, we debate: is banning beef fair in a multicultural society? Is the ban about respecting sentiments or an unpalatable infringement of freedom? Has the 'live and let live' slogan been slaughtered on the political altar? And is Congress playing both ways by taking an ambiguous stand on the ban? Watch more videos: http://www.ndtv.com/video?yt
Can we have equality at workspace without equality at home? A new film 'Ki and Ka' explores the idea of gender role reversal. On We The People we discuss: If men and women are equal, why don't we have 'house husbands'? Why are women judged for being ambitious and men mocked if they are not. The lawyers will now petition the Supreme Court again with more data. O...
America’s leaders meet at a convention in Philadelphia and decide to write a radical new Constitution. Ben Franklin, in his final moment on the world stage, helps forge the “Great Compromise” on legislative representation. James Madison writes much of the Constitution, the lawful embodiment of the promise of the Revolution (9/17/87). It includes the “odious compromise” on slavery that maintains the practice’s legality in the United States. George Washington is inaugurated as the first President (4/30/1789). Moses resolves to open a school for free black children. Sarah’s father joins the family from Ohio. Everyone looks forward to their new lives in the United States of America.
A 24-year-old former employee of the internet video company The Viral Fever wrote an anonymous blog accusing the Founder and CEO Arunabh Kumar of repeatedly harassing her and traumatizing her with unsolicited and offensive sexual advances - charges that he has strongly refuted. Within hours, many more women shared similar distressing experiences. The workplace has always been an uneasy terrain for women, especially in the predominantly male sectors such as law and technology. On We The People we ask - just how progressive is this new start-up culture? Were we naive to be taken in by the fancy logos and fashionable workplaces? As we herald a "new India", is all big talk drowning out the noise on the ground? Are these high profile new Indian companies just as flawed as the old guard they are...
Last month, the Environment Ministry came out with a notification banning the sale of cattle for slaughter in animal markets across the country. Various student groups and political parties registered their discontent by holding beef fests. Incidents of violent clashes followed. On We The People, we ask: are the new cattle sale norms a proxy for a national beef ban? If the order is only about tough action on animal cruelty and smuggling, why is the focus only on the bovine breed? Will the move hamper India's flourishing meat export industry? With unprofitable resale value for cattle, will the move end up bringing down the country's milch population? The issue of demonetisation has divided political and public opinion. Inside Parliament, there have been stormy scenes, and outside at ATMs and banks, there have been serpentine queues. There are stories of hardship and suffering, but some also say the pain is worth the gain. On We The People, we look at the politics and economics of demonetisation. What is its aim - hit at black money or digitise the economy? Will it net the big fish? Will Modi government's gamble pay off? We get you the stories of those who are struggling to cope with this move as well as of those who have adapted to the digital economy. Foreigners are often told that there's no better way to sample Indian culture than attending a "Big Fat Indian Wedding". In our homes and on our screens, there's no better way to bring large families together for celebrations that are often our greatest memories of a lifetime. But behind the celebrations lies a darker story. In most cases, given India's poverty levels, the festivities impose a crushing burden on the hosts. There is enormous pressure to host as lavish a wedding as possible. People save for a life-time, to throw that one big party - and often these savings are not enough. Many become deeply indebted as a result of wedding festivities. Today on We The People ask: is it time to trim the big fat Indian wedding? Or Is this too great an intrusion on personal liberty? On We The People, we debate India's disturbing paradox - more women achievers but fewer women in workforce. Statistics show that in India, women participation in workforce is down to 24 per cent from 40 per cent in the 1990s. A study shows that only five per cent of women reach the top of their careers in India compared to the global average of 20 per cent. Are women in power still an exception in India? Why is the expectation of finding work-life balance more of women than men? And are women partly responsible for not breaking through the glass ceiling at work? On We The People, we debate if clinical trials in India have too many or few safeguards. Are poor still vulnerable? And do the latest regulatory norms water down the safety norms? With government waiving Phase III trials for drugs that are already tested in countries that have robust regulatory mechanism, does the pursuit of new drugs and vaccines have very few safeguards? We The People: Does the hanging of Yakub Memon portray India as a strong state? On We The People, we debate, why has the fringe phrase 'love jihad' entered mainstream politics? Why is inter-faith love, which should be a celebration of diversity, being dubbed as a conspiracy? Is 'love jihad' the BJP's new poll polariser in Uttar Pradesh? Is it a product of myth-making or real concerns? Shooter Tara Sahdev's brother joins the show to talk about his sister's allegations that she was tortured to convert to Islam after her marriage.
We the People Rising and LA County for Trumped showed renewed courage to stand up to sanctuary city Huntington Park, where tow illegal aliens were appointed to two city commissions in August 2015. They have routinely silenced and thrown law-abiding citizens out of meetings, and they arrested one citizen (myself) for no good reason. This time we called them out for: 1.Protecting illegal aliens 2. Misuse of funds 3. Endangering the life of a legal resident and citizen Nick Iaonnidis and others. 4. They we called then out for select enforcement of their rules of decorum--and they shut down their meeting.
Secret bureaucracy, it's just a lie
The devil's henchmen, in suit and tie
A sacred brotherhood; an ancient rite
Politicians and the double lives they hide
Violate your rights, no more equality
Surrender freedom, your Social Security
We, the people face unconstitutional lies
In greed we trust, in revolution we die
Our founding fathers are rolling in their graves
The land of liberty needs a regime change
Until you no longer know right from wrong
The constitution isn't worth the paper it's written on
Screams from the future, warn of calamity
The coming plagues of the new disease
The illuminati, one world currency
