Climate Change and Disaster Risk Resilience

  • Japan-Caribbean Climate Change Partnership

The Japan-Caribbean Climate Change Partnership (J-CCCP) is designed to strengthen the capacity of countries in the Caribbean to invest in climate change mitigation and adaptation technologies, as prioritised in their Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs) and National Adaptation Plans (NAPs).

  • Integrated Climate Change Adaptation Strategies (ICCAS)

The overarching objective of the Programme on Integrated Climate Change Adaptation Strategies in Grenada (ICCAS) is to increase resilience of vulnerable communities and ecosystems to climate change risks in Grenada through integrated adaptation approaches.

  • Strengthening Capacity in Post Disaster Needs Assessment (PDNA) in the Caribbean

The project will be closely aligned to the UNDP global roll-out of the PDNA initiative. UNDP has been collaborating with global partners – UNDG, World Bank and the European Union in reviewing and adapting the PDNA methodology based on experience in applying this tool and capacity building initiatives.

  • Caribbean Tsunami Information Centre (CTIC)

The project will realise the strengthening of institutional capacities, and enhancing public awareness and education programmes for tsunamis and other coastal hazards through support to the Caribbean Tsunami Information Centre (CTIC).

  • Strengthening Resilience and Coping capacities in the Caribbean through Integrated Early Warning Systems

This project seeks to create an enabling environment that can facilitate the adoption of Common Alerting Protocol (CAP) EWS by other countries in the region through systemisation of the process and lessons learned.

Environment and Energy

  • Supporting Sustainable Ecosystems of Dominica’s Protected Area System

This project seeks to demonstrate a model for effective integrated landscape management encompassing the strengthening of an existing protected area and establishment of its buffer zone in order to reduce threats to biodiversity and ecological functioning.

  • Low Carbon Development Path (LCDP)

The project aims to remove policy, technical and financial barriers to energy efficient applications and solar photovoltaic technologies in Dominica.

  • Implementing a “Ridge to Reef” Approach to Protecting Biodiversity and Ecosystems

The project will strengthen land, forest and reef management processes (ecosystem functions) and biodiversity conservation on all terrestrial landscapes and marine and seascapes in Grenada, especially within and around marine and terrestrial protected areas.

  • Conserving Biodiversity

The project will expand the existing Protected Areas (PA) system through the establishment of two new terrestrial PAs and three new marine PAs and, will address systemic issues by implementing key elements of St. Kitts and Nevis' Protected Areas System Plan.

  • Disaster Risk and Energy Access Management (DREAM)

The objective of the Project is to reduce GHG emissions from fossil fuel-based power generation by demonstrating the exploitation of renewable energy resources for electricity generation in Barbados. To achieve this objective and strengthen the country’s Disaster Risk Response (DRR), the Project will promote decentralized solar photo-voltaic electricity generation in Barbados at community development centers and poly-clinics throughout the country.
