Hualien or Hualian may refer to:
Hualien County (Chinese: 花蓮縣; pinyin: Huālián Xiàn) has the largest area of all counties in Taiwan, and is located on the country's mountainous eastern coast. It is the northern terminus of the Hualien-Taitung Line and the southern terminus of the North-Link Line of the Taiwan Railway Administration. In the Provincial Highway System, Hualien County is connected to other counties via the Suhua Highway, Huatung Highway, Hualien-Taitung Coast Highway and the Central Cross-Island Highway. Hualien County is famous for tourism. Tourism spots include the Taroko National Park and Yushan National Park and its coastline is well suited for biking purposes.
Hualien City is the county seat of Hualien County and has the largest population.
Modern-day Hualien City was originally called "Kiray" (奇萊), after the Sakiraya Taiwanese aborigines and their settlement.
Spanish settlers arrived in 1622 to pan for gold. Picking up the sounds of native words, these settlers called the area "Turumoan" (多羅滿). Han Chinese settlers arrived in 1851. Qing Dynasty records give the name of the region as "Huilan" (洄瀾 "eddies") due to the whirling of waters in the delta.

Taiwan (i/ˌtaɪˈwɑːn/; Chinese: 臺灣 or 台灣; see below), officially the Republic of China (ROC; Chinese: 中華民國; pinyin: Zhōnghuá Mínguó), is a sovereign state in East Asia. The Republic of China, originally based in mainland China, now governs the island of Taiwan, which constitutes more than 99% of its territory, as well as Penghu, Kinmen, Matsu, and other minor islands, following its loss of the mainland China territory in 1949 in the Chinese Civil War. This remaining area is also constitutionally called the "Free area of the Republic of China" which is not ruled by the Communist Party of China in Beijing.
Neighboring states include the People's Republic of China (PRC) to the west (mainland China), Japan to the east and northeast, and the Philippines to the south. Taiwan is one of the most densely populated countries in the world with a population density of 649 people per km2 in October 2015.Taipei is the seat of the central government, and together with the surrounding cities of New Taipei and Keelung forms the largest metropolitan area on the island.
Taroko National Park (Chinese: 太魯閣國家公園; pinyin: Tàilǔgé gúojiā gōngyuán; Pe̍h-ōe-jī: Taroko kok-ka kong-hn̂g) is one of the nine national parks in Taiwan and was named after the Taroko Gorge, the landmark gorge of the park. The park spans Taichung Municipality, Nantou County, and Hualien County.
The park was originally established as the Tsugitaka-Taroko National Park (次高タロコ国立公園, Tsugitaka Taroko kokuritsu kōen) by the Governor-General of Taiwan on 12 December 1937 when Taiwan was part of the Empire of Japan. After the Empire of Japan's defeat in World War II, the Republic of China assumed control of Taiwan. The ROC government subsequently abolished the park on 15 August 1945. It was not until 28 November 1986 that the park was reestablished.
Sights include:
Night markets or night bazaars are street markets which operate at night and are generally dedicated to more leisurely strolling, shopping, and eating than more businesslike day markets. They are typically open-air markets.
Some well-known night markets exist in Taiwan, but they also exist in many other areas inhabited by ethnic Chinese such as Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, Malaysia, China, Thailand, Philippines and Chinatowns worldwide.
Taiwan hosts numerous night markets in each of its major cities. The larger and more formal of these markets might take place in purpose-built marketplaces while smaller or more informal ones tend to occupy streets or roads that are normal thoroughfares by day. The temporal night markets (ones that are not housed in any permanent structure) are actually consistent in their location; in most large cities, they are on a smaller street parallel and close (a block or two away) to the primary street of that city. Though the temporal night market stalls appear at night and then vanish by day, the vendors usually return to the same location the next evening. Night markets do not close, but the individual stalls may randomly take days off due to holidays, family illness, etc. Most temporal stalls within a night market have white canvas tops and bright lights. This gives the temporary night markets a fantastical, carnival-like atmosphere.

▲Click For More Info▲ My dad is from Hualien, Taiwan and I have been to Hualien for thousands times. The weird thing is: I've never tried to make a vlog about Hualien. (LOL) Few weeks ago, me and my family stayed in Hualien for about a week and I did get some short clips. Let's see what did I do in Hualien. BTW, I did go rafting, but it's impossible to film without waterproof protection. ▲More Kelly▲ →INSTAGRAM: http://instagram.com/thekellyyang →SNAPCHAT ID: thekellyyang →Youku channel: http://i.youku.com/u/UMjk0MTEyNTg0NA== →FACEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/kellywitheva →TWITTER: https://twitter.com/akellyyang →BLOG: http://kellyeva.pixnet.net/blog ▲Music I use▲ https://soundcloud.com/danrell/hostage →Business Inquiries ONLY: kelly.dolly@gmail.com FTC: This video is NOT spons...
Hey everyone! My family and I traveled to Hualien, Taiwan over the summer. It is stunning there! We mostly hiked along the gorgeous trails and explored the sights. I would highly recommend a trip there! Song: Ex Boxer by Riot Filmed on Nikon D3300 and iPhone 6S
Hi everyone! Here is part two of my year end travel diary! I know I'm super late in uploading this vlog, but better late than never eh? ;) This vlog captures my experience in Taipei and Hualien. I have been to Taipei before but Hualien was entirely new to me and as cliche as it may sound, it really took my breath away. The canopy of green and serenity of the place provided much respite from the bustling city I live day to day. It somewhat reminded me of Jeju Island in Korea as both had a huge mountain that stood as the main highlight and activities were centered around them. The Taiwanese are courteous and patient and serve up some really yummy delicacies. I am already missing the Braised Pork Rice there! If you would like to check out the first leg of my travel diary where I ventured ...

Taiwan Hualien Qixingtan Beach and Farglory Ocean Park In the last episode, we showed you the emptiest night market in Taiwan. Eating your favorite food with no queues and no squeezing. Peace of mind. Ladies and Gentlemen, we present to you... THE EMPTIEST THEME PARK IN TAIWAN! Hualien Farglory Ocean Park! There are literally no one, NOT A SINGLE CUSTOMER WHEN WE FIRST ARRIVED! There are maybe 3 more customers that came after us? And that's it. The whole theme park, with us, that 3 more customers, a few staffs. TOTAL HUMAN COUNT IN THE PARK IS ABOUT 10! If you head down the eastern coast of Taiwan, you will find the sleepy town of Hualien nestled between tropical mountains and beaches that nobody seems to go to. Seriously, the beaches were nearly empty aside from the occasional fisherman. It was the end of July and it was H-O-T! But isn't that the reason people go to the beach in the first place, to cool off? Their loss is your gain if you find yourself in Hualien where the beaches belong to you. We found an awesome "Bed and Breakfast" tucked into a jungle just a 150 meters from the beach (another empty beach). It was basically an artist colony built by hand by the owner and artist. It has a "Jungle Book" feel to it. It's not on the GPS and it's location is hard to find, but once you do, you will find it hard to leave. You can try to se...
Taiwan Hualien Dongdamen Zhiqiang and Fuding Night Market Do you feel stressful whenever you go to Taiwan's night market and have to squeeze with the crazy crowd and spend lots of time queuing for your favorite Taiwanese food? Well it's the total opposite when we are here at Hualien's new Dongdamen Night Market. It's a newly built night market that combines lots of old stalls from other old night markets but with bigger space and better facilities! But it's too bad the crowd is almost non-existent when we visited. Partly due to the rain and also the fact that it's almost brand new so not many knew about that place. 【Dongdamen Night Market】 No.50, Zhongshan Road, Hualien City, Hualien County, Taiwan 970 Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/bolinchenadventures Instagram - https://www.inst...
We've recently made the leap to Taiwan so we decided to do some exploring of our new home town Hualien. Not knowing the language and having no real reference points, we've spent a great deal of time getting lost, which is fine by us... Taiwan is home to some incredible mountain ranges, river gorges and scenic coastline. It's an adventurers paradise. We decided to take a GoPro along to document one of our days in Hualien, here's how it went... We had a memorable time with our guests for an epic event of ocean kayaking with stunning weather in #Hualien. We started the journey in the mid night in order to watch the sunrise 🌅 beside #QingshuiCliff, which is a well-known attraction for its magnificence. This picture was taken by our drone, we used it to document beautiful moments during our activity.

Third day of my short bike touring in Taiwan. After getting to the top of Wuling at 3275 m, it's a long descent that awaits me. There was a lot of traffic and I was a bit worried about potential delamination with my Chinese carbon wheels, so I was stopping here and there to give my wheels a cooling period... made a safe landing to Puli despite the heavy traffic and big trucks. I was planning to stay overnight at Guoxing, a small town surrounded by nice landscapes but couldn't find any accommodation. So I had to ride an extra 40-50 km to Taichung where I was sure I could find an accommodation for the night. Strava Activity : https://www.strava.com/activities/1178938910
