Ohio i/oʊˈhaɪ.oʊ/ is a state in the midwestern region of the United States. Ohio is the 34th largest by area, the 7th most populous, and the 10th most densely populated of the 50 United States. The state's capital and largest city is Columbus.
The state takes its name from the Ohio River. The name originated from the Iroquois word ohi-yo’, meaning "great river" or "large creek." Partitioned from the Northwest Territory, the state was admitted to the Union as the 17th state (and the first under the Northwest Ordinance) on March 1, 1803. Ohio is historically known as the "Buckeye State" (relating to the Ohio buckeye tree, and Ohioans are also known as "Buckeyes."
The government of Ohio is composed of the executive branch, led by the Governor; the legislative branch, which comprises the Ohio General Assembly; and the judicial branch, which is led by the state Supreme Court. Ohio occupies 16 seats in the United States House of Representatives. Ohio is known for its status as both a swing state and a bellwether in national elections. Six Presidents of the United States have been elected who had Ohio as their home state.

Lorain County is a county in northeastern Ohio. As of the 2010 census, the population was 301,356. Its county seat is Elyria. The county was created in 1822 and later organized in 1824.
Lorain County is part of the Cleveland-Elyria, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area.
The county is also home to Amherst, with its sandstone quarries, and Oberlin College, in Oberlin.
After the discovery of the New World, the land that became Lorain County was originally part of the French colony of Canada (New France), which was ceded in 1763 to Great Britain and renamed Province of Quebec. In the late 18th century the land became part of the Connecticut Western Reserve in the Northwest Territory, then was purchased by the Connecticut Land Company in 1795.
The original proposed name for the county was "Colerain".
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 923 square miles (2,390 km2), of which 491 square miles (1,270 km2) is land and 432 square miles (1,120 km2) (47%) is water. It is the fourth-largest county in Ohio by total area.
Appalachian Ohio is a bioregion and political unit in the southeastern part of the U.S. state of Ohio, characterized by the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. The Appalachian Regional Commission defines the region as consisting of thirty-two counties. This region roughly overlaps with the Appalachian mixed-mesophytic forests, which begin in southeast Ohio and southwest Pennsylvania and continue to north Georgia and Alabama. The mixed-mesophytic forest is found only in Central and Southern Appalachia and eastern/central China. It is one of the most biodiverse temperate forests in the world.
Geologically, Appalachian Ohio corresponds closely to the terminal moraine of an ancient glacier that runs southwest to northeast through the state. Areas south and east of the moraine are characterized by rough, irregular hills and hollows, characteristic of the Allegheny and Cumberland Plateaus of western Appalachia. Unlike eastern Appalachia, this region does not have long fin-like ridges like those of the Blue Ridge or Kittatinny Mountains, but a network of rocky hollows and hills going in all directions.

Ohio workers and families are flooding the Ohio statehouse in opposition to Governor Kashich's and Senate Bill 5 (SB5), a harmful anti-worker bill currently being considered by the Ohio state legislature. SB5 would take away Ohio workers’ union voice on the job at a time when Ohio communities are in desperate need of good, family-supporting jobs. But instead of creating legislation designed to attract good, middle class jobs, SB5 would lower wages, benefits, and working standards for dedicated public servants who are already struggling to make ends meet.
Ohioans are disappointed in Gov. Ted Strickland for failing to deliver on promises he made when he was elected in 2006. He promised to create jobs, but has instead lost more than 400,000 jobs, made a mess of the budget and has seen his administration bogged down in scandal.

Take the pressure away from finding the perfect job and think about your career as a series of projects. Learn how to think like an entrepreneur. Sponsored by The Pulse magazine, The Progressive Student Coalition (PSC) and "We Are Ohio", Live Against 2 was a powerful rally at the Ohio Union to get out the student vote against Issue 2, which will repeal Senate Bill 5 if the majority of Ohioans vote “NO”. SB5, the first major rewrite of Ohio collective-bargaining law in 28 years, would, among numerous other things, prohibit strikes by all public employees, limit the topics for negotiation, require workers to pay at least 15 percent of their medical-insurance premiums, and forbid local governments from picking up any portion of an employee’s share of pension contributions. Senate Bill 5’s direct attack on more than 350,000 public employees, including university employees, teachers, police, and firefighters, has infuriated many Ohioans...

In 2008, our country faced its greatest financial crisis since the Great Depression. Savings were lost. Jobs disappeared. Poverty swelled. This crisis has made an especially debilitating impact in Lorain County, Ohio. Lorain County, a blue-collar working community located just outside of Cleveland, was built on the backs of steel workers and ship builders. However, as industry dried up and jobs vanished, poverty set in. In 2009, Lorain’s poverty rate jumped by a third, claiming 33.7% of all county residents. Perhaps the most troubling statistic is that over half of Lorain’s senior citizens currently live below the poverty line. Many struggle to meet their basic needs like food and shelter. People are going hungry. Houses are deteriorating. Something needs to be done. Next Step Ministrie...

This is volume seven of my personal tour journal. This video is a bit different than the rest. My tour originally had been scheduled to go through the south into Arkansas, but in Ohio, Chris invited me to travel with him to the East Coast where he and Rob Reid were planning on doing about a week of shows together. So we drove. A non-stop 24 hour drive (literally) from Murfreesboro, Tennessee to Boston. After the incredibly long drive, Chris and I crashed with Rob at his sisters' place in Jamaica Plain. After a solid night of sleep and some food (thanks for the pancakes Martin!), we moved on to Brunswick, Maine and camped out near Monmouth. One night we stopped at an awesome bar in Hallowell called, The Liberal Cup, where I had THE BEST oatmeal stout I've ever tasted. When we le...

Especially in a day and age where all it takes for certain bands to “make it” is to create a MySpace profile with glossy promo photos and tens of thousands of “fans”.
