Alaska (i/əˈlæskə/) is a U.S. state situated in the northwest extremity of the North American continent. Bordering the state to the east are the Canadian territory of Yukon and the Canadian province of British Columbia; to the north are the Chukchi and Beaufort Seas, southern parts of the Arctic Ocean. To the west and south is the Pacific Ocean, with Russia (specifically, Chukotka Autonomous Okrug and Kamchatka Krai) farther west across the Bering Strait. Alaska is the largest state in the United States by area, the 3rd least populous and the least densely populated of the 50 United States. Approximately half of Alaska's residents (estimated at 738,432 by the Census Bureau in 2015) live within the Anchorage metropolitan area. Alaska's economy is dominated by the oil, natural gas, and fishing industries, resources which it has in abundance. Tourism and military bases are also a significant part of the economy.
Although it had been occupied for over ten thousand years by indigenous peoples, from the 18th century onward, European powers considered the territory of Alaska ripe for exploitation and trade. The United States purchased Alaska from the Russian Empire on March 30, 1867, for 7.2 million U.S. dollars at approximately two cents per acre ($4.74/km2). The area went through several administrative changes before becoming organized as a territory on May 11, 1912. It was admitted as the 49th state of the U.S. on January 3, 1959.
Barrow /ˈbæroʊ/ (Iñupiaq Utqiaġvik /utqiaʁvik/ or Ukpiaġvik /ukpiaʁvik/) is the largest city of the North Slope Borough in the U.S. state of Alaska and is located above the Arctic Circle. It is the 11th northernmost public community in the world and is the northernmost city in the United States of America, with nearby Point Barrow being the nation's northernmost point.
Barrow's population was 4,683 at the 2000 census and 4,212 at the 2010 census. In July 2013, the population estimate was 4,373, suggesting a slight increase.
Barrow is located at 71°17′44″N 156°45′59″W / 71.29556°N 156.76639°W / 71.29556; -156.76639. It is the only U.S. city on the continent of North America with an antipodal point on uninhabited dry land. The antipodal point is in Antarctica at 71°17′44″S 23°14′1″E / 71.29556°S 23.23361°E / -71.29556; 23.23361. Barrow is roughly 1,300 miles (2,100 km) south of the North Pole. Only 5.3% of the Earth's surface lies as far from the Equator as Barrow.

Travel video about destination Denali National Park in Alaska. Denali National Park is located about six hundred and thirty miles from the southern coast of Alaska and is nine thousand six hundred square miles of original Sub-Arctic wilderness. The history of the region began millions of years ago when mighty tectonic plates collided. The force of the collision folded the granite and sedimentary rock together at a huge elevation which subsequently formed the highest mountain in North America, Mount Mckinley. The coniferous forests consist primarily of birch and fir and deciduous trees and shrubs cover the stone-based valleys. An amazing variety of bushes, herbs and flowers turn the landscape into an array of bright colour. On the thin humus above the permafrost soil there’s vegetation ...

It's not everyday you get a phone call saying there is an empty seat in a heli with your name on it, so when Lexi Dupont called up Colter Hinchliffe and I (Leo Ahrens) with that very offer, we didn't even think twice about pulling the trigger. Our herding nature led us to new adventures in Chile and the feeding frenzy of powder snow and in Japan. From the mountains to the ocean we continue to search for the right place at the right time. 12 months later Stellar Media is back in Alaska for the 2015 season. The past yea...

Caribou Bones (1995) A documentary by Paul Bonesteel “What is true wilderness? I don’t know if I‘ve ever really been there. But I do know that this trip seems to have a gravity all its own. There is something undefinable that has brought us here, to a river, two hundred miles north of the Arctic Circle, where even the definition of wilderness is insignificant.” -Paul Bonesteel, from the film’s narration The story centers on the three Bonesteel’s excursion into the Brooks Range of Alaska, their unexpected separation, and their journey that unfolded through the mountains, tundra and rivers of Alaska's Gates of the Arctic National Park. Caribou Bones is an elaborate "home movie," with Paul utilizing the trip itself and his family's archive of super 8mm footage connect events from the pas...

I debated upon dividing this video up into several videos, to avoid a lengthy one, but then decided to keep it as a continuous “story.” Some of the photos and video footage are poor quality, I know, but they are the only ones depicting the featured subject so I decided to share them, regardless, in order to provide at least a glimpse. I appreciate, too, that it can be annoying, when watching a video, to be prompted to, or to have to, pause it in order to read something, however, I included such material for whomever it might benefit, without adding extra time to the video. Note: We didn’t see any Icebows (“frozen rainbows”), polar bears—though they were active earlier in the week--or the Will Rogers and Wiley Post Memorials in town or at Point Barrow; we were unable to visit Point B...

Tell me why we didn't try
Tell me why you had to go
Can't you see it makes me cry
There are so many things I have to know
Cause I still care about you
And time is long overdue
Now I pray on my knees and I look at the stars
That you would be here laying down in my arms
I pray on my knees for you
I know that I can't turn back time
Just to undo all my mistakes
I'm not gonna cry for the rest of my days
I will do whatever it takes
Cause I still care about you
And time is long overdue
I pray on my knees
I pray on my knees
For you
Now I pray on my knees and I look at the stars
That you would be here laying down in my arms
