Swill

Swill is food for animals in liquid or partly liquid form.

The term can also be used as an extremely derogatory label for any drink meant for human consumption perceived as unpalatable or nearly so.

Pig swill

Pig swill, hog swill, hogwash is kitchen refuse used to feed pigs.

Historically pig farmers arranged collection of swill, e.g. by means of swill bins. The grease was skimmed off the swill tanks and sold for further processing, while the remaining swill was processed into pig food.

During World War II collection of pig swill was a nationwide campaign in Great Britain.

During the 2001 United Kingdom foot-and-mouth outbreak it was thought that unprocessed pig swill was a key link in the chain of the infection, and it was banned in Great Britain. In 2003 the ban was expanded to the whole European Union.

Love Island

Love Island (originally Celebrity Love Island) is a daily British reality television programme. In the show, twelve single celebrities spent five weeks on an island in Fiji. Viewers would vote for the couple they would like to see in the "love shack" where the two would get to know one another better. In the first series, each week viewers voted celebrities off the island, but in the second, the inhabitants had the final say. The identities of those being kicked out were revealed in the elimination episodes. The prize for the final couple left standing was £50,000. The second series also featured the inhabitants having to cook and clean up after themselves to fight the appearance that they were just there for a free holiday.

It was originally presented by Patrick Kielty and Kelly Brook, with Fearne Cotton taking over as female host in the second series. It aired in the United Kingdom on ITV. The first series aired in the summer of 2005, and it was won by Jayne Middlemiss and Fran Cosgrave. The second series began in July 2006, dropping Celebrity from its name. It was won by Bianca Gascoigne and Calum Best.

Tony Steele

John Anthony Steele, better known as Tony Steele, is a first-class cricketer who played 15 Sheffield Shield matches for New South Wales from 1968/69 to 1970/71. He toured New Zealand with an Australian party in 1969/70, playing 3 matches for Australia B against New Zealand and 3 for the Australians against domestic first-class teams. His games against New Zealand do not count as Test Matches although New Zealand fielded their full strength Test team.

A right-handed batsman, he appeared in 22 first-class matches in all between 1968 and 1971, scoring 1,168 runs at 36.50 with three hundreds against Queensland (158), South Australia (152) and Western Australia (123). He also scored 5 fifties and took 27 catches and, as an occasional wicket-keeper, completed 2 stumpings. He scored 10 in his only List A match.

He also played for New South Wales Colts in the 1966/67 season and appeared for a Tasmania Combined XI in a first-class match in 1970/71. He was born on 13 November 1942 in Waverley, Sydney, New South Wales and educated at North Sydney Boys High School.

Marv Brown

Marvin Clifford Brown (August 15, 1930 - December 7, 2009) was a former American football halfback in the National Football League with the Detroit Lions in 1957. He attended high school in Waco, Texas and Alice, Texas. He was drafted in the 25th round (301st overall) by Detroit in 1953. Brown died December 7, 2009 of pancreatic cancer.

Life

Marvin Brown grew up in the Methodist Orphanage home in Waco, Texas from age 5-17. The home took Brown and his sister Alice in after they found them digging through trash cans in the area. Their mother was not able to take care of them and they were living with their grandfather who worked security at night and slept during the day. While at the Orphanage, Marvin met and was coached by J. M White. White had a large influence on Marvin's life. Brown ran away from the orphanage at age 17 and White got Marvin a scholarship at Tarleton State University, where he was voted best player in Tarleton History, was All Conference three years, led the conference in rushing and punt returns and intercepted 10 passes. He was voted most valuable player and Jr. College All American. He was inducted into Tarelton's Hall of Fame later in life. From there he went to East Taxas State University (Now Texas A & M Commerce) on a football scholarship and played for "Catfish" Smith, who once said Marvin was the greatest football player he ever coached. Marvin received his Bachelors and Masters from this University. While at East Texas State he was voted Most Valuable Player in the 1953 Tangerine Bowl (now the Capital One Bowl), he was ranked 9th nationally in scoring, had the longest run of 107 yards in one game (a record that stood for years), was an All American and still holds 9 records at the school in football. In track, he ran the 100-yard dash in 9.5 seconds and was all conference in the 100 and 220. Brown was inducted into East Texas Hall of Fame in the 1970s.
