Pramod Kumar Satapathy
Pramod Kumar Satapathy was an assistant commandment in the Orissa Police. He laid down his life in the process of fighting armed naxalites on 15 February 2008 and has been awarded with the Ashoka Chakra posthumously.
Satapathy was training in charge of the Special Operation Group of Orissa State Armed Police at Chandaka. He had rushed to Nayagarh along with 20 available men on motorcycles soon after hearing the news that heavily armed Naxalites had attacked police establishments and looted a huge cache of arms at 10.30 pm on February 15.
On receiving information about the movement of the militants, Satapathy quickly made out a plan and with available forces of SOG, OSAP and CRPF followed the Naxalites into the jungle.
There were about 200-300 Naxalites in an elevated location and they were about to escape. Satapathy mounted assault on the Naxalites. The Naxalites in turn unleashed a heavy fire on the police team.
In this encounter that continued for about two hours, the police party had to retreat. Satapathy fought bravely till his last breath and laid down his life in fighting the militants. A large quantity of arms and ammunitions was recovered from the site.

Virendra Razdan
Virendra Razdan (c. 1950 – 13 June 2003) was an Indian film and television actor. He may be best known for his portrayal of Maulana Azad, a leading figure of the Indian independence movement, in the 1982 biographical film, Gandhi, directed by Richard Attenborough. He also appeared in the Indian television series, Mahabharat, playing the role of Vidura.
Razdan's father was a Sufi musician. He studied acting and theater at the National School of Drama in New Delhi, where he was a student of Ibrahim Alkazi.
Virendra Razdan died in Mumbai, India, on 13 June 2003, at the age of 53.

Arun Bakshi
Arun Bakshi is an Indian film and television actor and also a singer. He has acted as a character actor in over 100 Hindi films, and as a playback singer has also sung 298 songs. He has also worked in Punjabi and Bhojpuri cinema. He is currently playing the role of Mahant Dashrath Tripathi in Colors's Ishq Ka Rang Safed.
Biography
He was born and brought up in Ludhiana, Punjab, where he graduated from Arya College, Ludhiana. He worked with the Punjab Agricultural University for a while, before moving to Mumbai, to start his acting career in 1981, first in television and later films.
Arun Bakshi is well known for performances in BR Chopra's Mahabharat as Dhristadyumna, Guru, Kuch To Gadbad Hai and Masoom.

There are very few characters in literature, who instill pride and inspiration in common folks. Abhimanyu is surely one such character.
The Chakravyuha or Padmavyuha was a special formation and knowledge of how to penetrate it was limited to only a handful of Pandava warriors, namely Abhimanyu, Arjuna, Krishna and Pradyumna.
However, to the Pandavas' disappointment, Pradyumna, son of Krishna, chose not to participate in the Kurukshetra war. Abhimanyu, son of Arjuna, knew how to penetrate the Padmavyuha but not how to exit it, leading to tragic consequences
The thirteenth day of Mahabharat war is remembered for the construction of Chakravyuha by Dronacharya.
By the inspiration of Duryodhan, Drona chalked out a plan to trap Yudhisthira the main lead of the Pandavas and hence win the war at one sweep.
Dronacharya knew that Arjun and Sri Krishna had the skill of penetration and exit through Chakravyuh so both of them were purposefully drawn in to a separate battle with the Samsaptakas.
Now the challenge of the Chakravyuh was sent over to the Pandavas' side.
As planned Yudhisthir had no other option of himself accepting the challenge as the Krishna and Arjun were busy in a battle far away from head quarters, hence inaccessible.
To his aid came young Abhimanyu.
He knew, he has only the partial knowledge of Padmavyuh, but to a brave kshatriya like him, fulfilling his Dharma of protecting his King is must.
He also had confidence (may be over confidence) and hope of winning the vyuh with the help of his mighty uncles.
But Kauravas with the help of Jayadratha were successful in hindering four of the five pandavas from entering the chakravyuha (by making use of a boon granted to him by Lord Shiva) and thus brutally killing Abhimanyu in the end,by violating the norms of wars.
Abhimanyu though sacrificed his life, was very effective in holding all the Kaurava maharathis (Great Charioteers, colloquially Great Warriors) at bay and thereby preventing the advancement of Kaurava forces towards the Pandavas.Hence avoiding, a certain defeat of his side

As the sun rises in the sky the battle between Karna and Arjun begins. Karna sends a dazzling arrow, which spits fire towards Arjun. Krishna presess Arjun’ss chariot five fingers deep in the mud at the last minute, so that the shaft misses Arjun’s head and only strikes his crown. Arjun burns with anger, fixes and arrow on his bow and kills Karna.
Karna Vadh Story
Karna has promised to Kunti that he would not kill any of his sons except Arjuna so he spares them all and moves towards Arjuna. He removes his Nagastra to kill Arjuna and Shalya (Karna’s charioteer) tells him to aim at Arjuna’s chest. Fed up of Shalya’s insults throughout the war, Karna thinks that this too would be a bad advice and so he aims at Arjuna’s head instead of aiming at his chest. However, the Nagastra hits Arjuna’s helmet and not head, sparing Arjuna’s life. Later, Karna has full advantage and is about to kill Arjuna but he sees the sun is about to set and spares Arjuna for the day.
The Karan Vadh
On the 17th day Arjuna and Karna comes once again face to face of each other. Karna performs brilliantly in the war until his chariot gets struck in the mud. He gets off from his chariot and asks Arjuna to pause reminding him the rules of the war. Arjun obliges.
However, Lord Krishna reminds Arjuna the cruelties of Karna and the way he insulted Draupadi. He even reminds him the death of Abhimanyu. This instigates Arjuna and he attacks Karna. Karna defends himself by using Rudraastra. This hits Arjuna and he loses his grip on his Gandiva. Arjuna becomes unconscious. Following the rule of the war, Karna doesn’t hit the unconscious Arjuna, instead he tries to utilize the time to remove his chariot from the mud. However, Arjuna recovers and using the Anjalika weapon kills the defenseless Karna.
Though both, killing a weaponless warrior and killing from back is forbidden in Kurukshetra war, Arjuna kills Karan by the forbidden way only on the insistence of Lord Krishna. This is how Karan Vadh happens in Mahabharat where the great warrior dies at his brother’s hand by wrong means.

कर्ण के विषय में कहा जाता है कि वह पाण्डवों का भाई है, पर यह विवाह से पहले उत्पन्न हुआ था इसलिए कुन्ती ने भी उसे अपना पुत्र स्वीकार नहीं किया था। पाठकों को याद होगा कि बाल्यावस्था में पाण्डवों और धृतराष्ट्र के पुत्रों की परीक्षा ली गई थी तो कर्ण को अर्जुन का प्रतिपक्षी बनने की आज्ञा नहीं दी गई थी क्योंकि वह हीन कुलोत्पन्न था। उसी दिन से उसने प्रण किया था कि किसी तरह अर्जुन को परास्त कर इस अपमान का बदला लूँगा। इसी अभिप्राय से उसने दुर्योधन से मित्रता पैदा की और उसको अपना सहायक बना दिया।
दुर्योधन की सेना में कर्ण और भीष्म अर्जुन के बराबर के योद्धा गिने जाते थे। दुर्योधन को विश्वास था कि इन दोनों के सामने अकेले अर्जुन की कुछ न चलेगी। इससे उसको इतना अभिमान था कि वह इस सन्धि को अस्वीकार करता था। कृष्णचन्द्र यद्यपि अन्तःकरण से चाहते थे, कि लड़ाई न हो, पर पाण्डवों को उनका स्वत्व न मिले और सन्धि को जाय इस बात को भी वे पसन्द नहीं करते थे। वह तो इसे पाप समझते थे। इसलिए हस्तिनापुर से विदा होने के पहले उन्होंने यह युक्ति लगाई कि कर्ण को उसके जन्म का यथार्थ परिचय देकर दुर्योधन की सहायता करने से रोकें। कृष्ण ने कर्ण को बहुत कुछ समझाया और पाण्डवों की ओर से यहाँ तक कहा कि उम्र में सब भाइयों से बड़े होने के कारण गद्दी के अधिकारी आप ही हैं। इस पर भी कर्ण ने दुर्योधन का साथ छोड़ना स्वीकार नहीं किया और उत्तर दिया कि मैं दुर्योधन से उसका साथ देने का दृढ़ संकल्प कर चुका हूँ। अब यदि चक्रवर्ती राज्य भी मिले तो मैं उसका साथ नहीं छोड़ सकता। मैंने दृढ़ संकल्प कर लिया है कि या तो अर्जुन को युद्धक्षेत्र में नीचा दिखाकर यश और कीर्ति का लाभ प्राप्त करूँ और संसार में महावीर कहलाऊँ अथवा उसके हाथ से मारा जाकर स्वर्ग को सिधारूँ। कृष्णचन्द्र की चतुरता का यह अन्तिम वार भी खाली गया। अब इसके अतिरिक्त दूसरा उपाय बाकी न रहा कि अपनी-अपनी सेना सजाई जाए और युद्ध की तैयारियाँ की जायें। जब कृष्ण हस्तिनापुर से लौटे तो युधिष्ठिर ने अपनी सेना के साथ प्रस्थान किया और कुरुक्षेत्र के मैदान में आ पहुँचा। अब लड़ाई की तैयारियाँ होने लगीं।

हिन्दू धर्म के अनुसार, खाटू श्याम जी कलियुग में कृष्ण के अवतार हैं, जिन्होंने श्री कृष्ण से वरदान प्राप्त किया था कि वे कलियुग में उनके नाम श्याम से पूजे जाएँगे। श्री कृष्ण बर्बरीक के महान बलिदान से काफ़ी प्रसन्न हुए और वरदान दिया कि जैसे-जैसे कलियुग का अवतरण होगा, तुम श्याम के नाम से पूजे जाओगे। तुम्हारे भक्तों का केवल तुम्हारे नाम का सच्चे दिल से उच्चारण मात्र से ही उद्धार होगा। यदि वे तुम्हारी सच्चे मन और प्रेम-भाव से पूजा करेंगे तो उनकी सभी मनोकामना पूर्ण होगी और सभी कार्य सफ़ल होंगे।
श्री श्याम बाबा की अपूर्व कहानी मध्यकालीन महाभारत से आरम्भ होती है। वे पहले बर्बरीक के नाम से जाने जाते थे। वे अति बलशाली दीघटोत्कच और नाग कन्या मौरवी के पुत्र हैं। बाल्यकाल से ही वे बहुत वीर और महान योद्धा थे। उन्होंने युद्ध कला अपनी माँ तथा श्री कृष्ण से सीखी। भगवान् शिव की घोर तपस्या करके उन्हें प्रसन्न किया और तीन अमोघ बाण प्राप्त किये; इस प्रकार तीन बाणधारी के नाम से प्रसिद्ध नाम प्राप्त किया। अग्निदेव प्रसन्न होकर उन्हें धनुष प्रदान किया, जो उन्हें तीनों लोकों में विजयी बनाने में समर्थ थे।
महाभारत का युद्ध कौरवों और पाण्डवों के मध्य अपरिहार्य हो गया था, यह समाचार बर्बरीक को प्राप्त हुए तो उनकी भी युद्ध में सम्मिलित होने की इच्छा जागृत हुई। जब वे अपनी माँ से आशीर्वाद प्राप्त करने पहुँचे तब माँ को हारे हुए पक्ष का साथ देने का वचन दिया। वे अपने नीले रंग के घोड़े पर सवार होकर तीन बाण और धनुष के साथ कुरूक्षेत्र की रणभूमि की ओर चल पड़े।
सर्वव्यापी श्री कृष्ण ने ब्राह्मण भेष धारण कर बर्बरीक के बारे में जानने के लिए उन्हें रोका और यह जानकर उनकी हँसी उड़ायी कि वह मात्र तीन बाण से युद्ध में सम्मिलित होने आया है; ऐसा सुनकर बर्बरीक ने उत्तर दिया कि मात्र एक बाण शत्रु सेना को परास्त करने के लिए पर्याप्त है और ऐसा करने के बाद बाण वापस तूणीर में ही आएगा। यदि तीनों बाणों को प्रयोग में लिया गया तो पूरे ब्रह्माण्ड का विनाश हो जाएगा। यह जानकर भगवान् कृष्ण ने उन्हें चुनौती दी की इस वृक्ष के सभी पत्तों को वेधकर दिखलाओ। वे दोनों पीपल के वृक्ष के नीचे खड़े थे। बर्बरीक ने चुनौती स्वीकार की और अपने तूणीर से एक बाण निकाला और ईश्वर को स्मरण कर बाण पेड़ के पत्तों की ओर चलाया। बाण ने क्षणभर में पेड़ के सभी पत्तों को वेध दिया और श्री कृष्ण के पैर के इर्द-गिर्द चक्कर लगाने लगा, क्योंकि एक पत्ता उन्होंने अपने पैर के नीचे छुपा लिया था; बर्बरीक ने कहा कि आप अपने पैर को हटा लीजिए अन्यथा ये बाण आपके पैर को भी वेध देगा। तत्पश्चात, श्री कृष्ण ने बालक बर्बरीक से पूछा कि वह युद्ध में किस ओर से सम्मिलित होगा; बर्बरीक ने अपनी माँ को दिये वचन को दोहराया और कहा युद्ध में जो पक्ष निर्बल और हार रहा होगा उसी को अपना साथ देगा। श्री कृष्ण जानते थे कि युद्ध में हार तो कौरवों की निश्चित है और इस कारण अगर बर्बरीक ने उनका साथ दिया तो परिणाम गलत पक्ष में चला जाएगा।
अत: ब्राह्मणरूपी श्री कृष्ण ने वीर बर्बरीक से दान की अभिलाषा व्यक्त की। बर्बरीक ने उन्हें वचन दिया और दान माँगने को कहा। ब्राह्मण ने उनसे शीश का दान माँगा। वीर बर्बरीक क्षण भर के लिए अचम्भित हुए, परन्तु अपने वचन से अडिग नहीं हो सकते थे। वीर बर्बरीक बोले एक साधारण ब्राह्मण इस तरह का दान नहीं माँग सकता है, अत: ब्राह्मण से अपने वास्तिवक रूप से अवगत कराने की प्रार्थना की। ब्राह्मणरूपी श्री कृष्ण अपने वास्तविक रूप में आ गये। श्री कृष्ण ने बर्बरीक को शीश दान माँगने का कारण समझाया कि युद्ध आरम्भ होने से पूर्व युद्धभूमि पूजन के लिए तीनों लोकों में सर्वश्रेष्ठ क्षत्रिय के शीश की आहुति देनी होती है; इसलिए ऐसा करने के लिए वे विवश थे। बर्बरीक ने उनसे प्रार्थना की कि वे अन्त तक युद्ध देखना चाहते हैं। श्री कृष्ण ने उनकी यह प्रार्थना स्वीकार कर ली। श्री कृष्ण इस बलिदान से प्रसन्न होकर बर्बरीक को युद्ध में सर्वश्रेष्ठ वीर की उपाधि से अलंकृत किया। उनके शीश को युद्धभूमि के समीप ही एक पहाड़ी पर सुशोभित किया गया; जहाँ से बर्बरीक सम्पूर्ण युद्ध का जायजा ले सकते थे। फाल्गुन माह की द्वादशी को उन्होंने अपने शीश का दान दिया था इस प्रकार वे शीश के दानी कहलाये।

हिन्दू धर्म के अनुसार, खाटू श्याम जी कलियुग में कृष्ण के अवतार हैं, जिन्होंने श्री कृष्ण से वरदान प्राप्त किया था कि वे कलियुग में उनके नाम श्याम से पूजे जाएँगे। श्री कृष्ण बर्बरीक के महान बलिदान से काफ़ी प्रसन्न हुए और वरदान दिया कि जैसे-जैसे कलियुग का अवतरण होगा, तुम श्याम के नाम से पूजे जाओगे। तुम्हारे भक्तों का केवल तुम्हारे नाम का सच्चे दिल से उच्चारण मात्र से ही उद्धार होगा। यदि वे तुम्हारी सच्चे मन और प्रेम-भाव से पूजा करेंगे तो उनकी सभी मनोकामना पूर्ण होगी और सभी कार्य सफ़ल होंगे।
श्री श्याम बाबा की अपूर्व कहानी मध्यकालीन महाभारत से आरम्भ होती है। वे पहले बर्बरीक के नाम से जाने जाते थे। वे अति बलशाली दीघटोत्कच और नाग कन्या मौरवी के पुत्र हैं। बाल्यकाल से ही वे बहुत वीर और महान योद्धा थे। उन्होंने युद्ध कला अपनी माँ तथा श्री कृष्ण से सीखी। भगवान् शिव की घोर तपस्या करके उन्हें प्रसन्न किया और तीन अमोघ बाण प्राप्त किये; इस प्रकार तीन बाणधारी के नाम से प्रसिद्ध नाम प्राप्त किया। अग्निदेव प्रसन्न होकर उन्हें धनुष प्रदान किया, जो उन्हें तीनों लोकों में विजयी बनाने में समर्थ थे।
महाभारत का युद्ध कौरवों और पाण्डवों के मध्य अपरिहार्य हो गया था, यह समाचार बर्बरीक को प्राप्त हुए तो उनकी भी युद्ध में सम्मिलित होने की इच्छा जागृत हुई। जब वे अपनी माँ से आशीर्वाद प्राप्त करने पहुँचे तब माँ को हारे हुए पक्ष का साथ देने का वचन दिया। वे अपने नीले रंग के घोड़े पर सवार होकर तीन बाण और धनुष के साथ कुरूक्षेत्र की रणभूमि की ओर चल पड़े।
सर्वव्यापी श्री कृष्ण ने ब्राह्मण भेष धारण कर बर्बरीक के बारे में जानने के लिए उन्हें रोका और यह जानकर उनकी हँसी उड़ायी कि वह मात्र तीन बाण से युद्ध में सम्मिलित होने आया है; ऐसा सुनकर बर्बरीक ने उत्तर दिया कि मात्र एक बाण शत्रु सेना को परास्त करने के लिए पर्याप्त है और ऐसा करने के बाद बाण वापस तूणीर में ही आएगा। यदि तीनों बाणों को प्रयोग में लिया गया तो पूरे ब्रह्माण्ड का विनाश हो जाएगा। यह जानकर भगवान् कृष्ण ने उन्हें चुनौती दी की इस वृक्ष के सभी पत्तों को वेधकर दिखलाओ। वे दोनों पीपल के वृक्ष के नीचे खड़े थे। बर्बरीक ने चुनौती स्वीकार की और अपने तूणीर से एक बाण निकाला और ईश्वर को स्मरण कर बाण पेड़ के पत्तों की ओर चलाया। बाण ने क्षणभर में पेड़ के सभी पत्तों को वेध दिया और श्री कृष्ण के पैर के इर्द-गिर्द चक्कर लगाने लगा, क्योंकि एक पत्ता उन्होंने अपने पैर के नीचे छुपा लिया था; बर्बरीक ने कहा कि आप अपने पैर को हटा लीजिए अन्यथा ये बाण आपके पैर को भी वेध देगा। तत्पश्चात, श्री कृष्ण ने बालक बर्बरीक से पूछा कि वह युद्ध में किस ओर से सम्मिलित होगा; बर्बरीक ने अपनी माँ को दिये वचन को दोहराया और कहा युद्ध में जो पक्ष निर्बल और हार रहा होगा उसी को अपना साथ देगा। श्री कृष्ण जानते थे कि युद्ध में हार तो कौरवों की निश्चित है और इस कारण अगर बर्बरीक ने उनका साथ दिया तो परिणाम गलत पक्ष में चला जाएगा।

There are very few characters in literature, who instill pride and inspiration in common folks. Abhimanyu is surely one such character.
The Chakravyuha or Padmavyuha was a special formation and knowledge of how to penetrate it was limited to only a handful of Pandava warriors, namely Abhimanyu, Arjuna, Krishna and Pradyumna.
However, to the Pandavas' disappointment, Pradyumna, son of Krishna, chose not to participate in the Kurukshetra war. Abhimanyu, son of Arjuna, knew how to penetrate the Padmavyuha but not how to exit it, leading to tragic consequences
The thirteenth day of Mahabharat war is remembered for the construction of Chakravyuha by Dronacharya.
By the inspiration of Duryodhan, Drona chalked out a plan to trap Yudhisthira the main lead of the Pandavas and hence win the war at one sweep.
Dronacharya knew that Arjun and Sri Krishna had the skill of penetration and exit through Chakravyuh so both of them were purposefully drawn in to a separate battle with the Samsaptakas.
Now the challenge of the Chakravyuh was sent over to the Pandavas' side.
As planned Yudhisthir had no other option of himself accepting the challenge as the Krishna and Arjun were busy in a battle far away from head quarters, hence inaccessible.
To his aid came young Abhimanyu.
He knew, he has only the partial knowledge of Padmavyuh, but to a brave kshatriya like him, fulfilling his Dharma of protecting his King is must.
He also had confidence (may be over confidence) and hope of winning the vyuh with the help of his mighty uncles.
But Kauravas with the help of Jayadratha were successful in hindering four of the five pandavas from entering the chakravyuha (by making use of a boon granted to him by Lord Shiva) and thus brutally killing Abhimanyu in the end,by violating the norms of wars.
Abhimanyu though sacrificed his life, was very effective in holding all the Kaurava maharathis (Great Charioteers, colloquially Great Warriors) at bay and thereby preventing the advancement of Kaurava forces towards the Pandavas.Hence avoiding, a certain defeat of his side

When Arjuna faced off against the Kauravas at Virat, his intentions are not to kill. Though he sees Dronacharya and Bhisham assembeled against him, he knows that he is not going to kill them. As a result, he doesn't become distraught. In the Kurukshetra War, Arjuna knows that when the War is over, his opponents on the field, including his guru and the great Bhishma, will be dead, and also that he will be the cause of their death. This makes him sad and he is confused about his duties-whether to fight for dharma as a true Kshatriya or to lay down arms and refuse to attack his fellow clan members.

कर्ण के विषय में कहा जाता है कि वह पाण्डवों का भाई है, पर यह विवाह से पहले उत्पन्न हुआ था इसलिए कुन्ती ने भी उसे अपना पुत्र स्वीकार नहीं किया था। पाठकों को याद होगा कि बाल्यावस्था में पाण्डवों और धृतराष्ट्र के पुत्रों की परीक्षा ली गई थी तो कर्ण को अर्जुन का प्रतिपक्षी बनने की आज्ञा नहीं दी गई थी क्योंकि वह हीन कुलोत्पन्न था। उसी दिन से उसने प्रण किया था कि किसी तरह अर्जुन को परास्त कर इस अपमान का बदला लूँगा। इसी अभिप्राय से उसने दुर्योधन से मित्रता पैदा की और उसको अपना सहायक बना दिया।
दुर्योधन की सेना में कर्ण और भीष्म अर्जुन के बराबर के योद्धा गिने जाते थे। दुर्योधन को विश्वास था कि इन दोनों के सामने अकेले अर्जुन की कुछ न चलेगी। इससे उसको इतना अभिमान था कि वह इस सन्धि को अस्वीकार करता था। कृष्णचन्द्र यद्यपि अन्तःकरण से चाहते थे, कि लड़ाई न हो, पर पाण्डवों को उनका स्वत्व न मिले और सन्धि को जाय इस बात को भी वे पसन्द नहीं करते थे। वह तो इसे पाप समझते थे। इसलिए हस्तिनापुर से विदा होने के पहले उन्होंने यह युक्ति लगाई कि कर्ण को उसके जन्म का यथार्थ परिचय देकर दुर्योधन की सहायता करने से रोकें। कृष्ण ने कर्ण को बहुत कुछ समझाया और पाण्डवों की ओर से यहाँ तक कहा कि उम्र में सब भाइयों से बड़े होने के कारण गद्दी के अधिकारी आप ही हैं। इस पर भी कर्ण ने दुर्योधन का साथ छोड़ना स्वीकार नहीं किया और उत्तर दिया कि मैं दुर्योधन से उसका साथ देने का दृढ़ संकल्प कर चुका हूँ। अब यदि चक्रवर्ती राज्य भी मिले तो मैं उसका साथ नहीं छोड़ सकता। मैंने दृढ़ संकल्प कर लिया है कि या तो अर्जुन को युद्धक्षेत्र में नीचा दिखाकर यश और कीर्ति का लाभ प्राप्त करूँ और संसार में महावीर कहलाऊँ अथवा उसके हाथ से मारा जाकर स्वर्ग को सिधारूँ। कृष्णचन्द्र की चतुरता का यह अन्तिम वार भी खाली गया। अब इसके अतिरिक्त दूसरा उपाय बाकी न रहा कि अपनी-अपनी सेना सजाई जाए और युद्ध की तैयारियाँ की जायें। जब कृष्ण हस्तिनापुर से लौटे तो युधिष्ठिर ने अपनी सेना के साथ प्रस्थान किया और कुरुक्षेत्र के मैदान में आ पहुँचा। अब लड़ाई की तैयारियाँ होने लगीं।

दुर्योधन की सेना में कर्ण और भीष्म अर्जुन के बराबर के योद्धा गिने जाते थे। दुर्योधन को विश्वास था कि इन दोनों के सामने अकेले अर्जुन की कुछ न चलेगी। इससे उसको इतना अभिमान था कि वह इस सन्धि को अस्वीकार करता था। कृष्णचन्द्र यद्यपि अन्तःकरण से चाहते थे, कि लड़ाई न हो, पर पाण्डवों को उनका स्वत्व न मिले और सन्धि को जाय इस बात को भी वे पसन्द नहीं करते थे। वह तो इसे पाप समझते थे। इसलिए हस्तिनापुर से विदा होने के पहले उन्होंने यह युक्ति लगाई कि कर्ण को उसके जन्म का यथार्थ परिचय देकर दुर्योधन की सहायता करने से रोकें। कृष्ण ने कर्ण को बहुत कुछ समझाया और पाण्डवों की ओर से यहाँ तक कहा कि उम्र में सब भाइयों से बड़े होने के कारण गद्दी के अधिकारी आप ही हैं। इस पर भी कर्ण ने दुर्योधन का साथ छोड़ना स्वीकार नहीं किया और उत्तर दिया कि मैं दुर्योधन से उसका साथ देने का दृढ़ संकल्प कर चुका हूँ। अब यदि चक्रवर्ती राज्य भी मिले तो मैं उसका साथ नहीं छोड़ सकता। मैंने दृढ़ संकल्प कर लिया है कि या तो अर्जुन को युद्धक्षेत्र में नीचा दिखाकर यश और कीर्ति का लाभ प्राप्त करूँ और संसार में महावीर कहलाऊँ अथवा उसके हाथ से मारा जाकर स्वर्ग को सिधारूँ। कृष्णचन्द्र की चतुरता का यह अन्तिम वार भी खाली गया। अब इसके अतिरिक्त दूसरा उपाय बाकी न रहा कि अपनी-अपनी सेना सजाई जाए और युद्ध की तैयारियाँ की जायें। जब कृष्ण हस्तिनापुर से लौटे तो युधिष्ठिर ने अपनी सेना के साथ प्रस्थान किया और कुरुक्षेत्र के मैदान में आ पहुँचा। अब लड़ाई की तैयारियाँ होने लगीं।

As the sun rises in the sky the battle between Karna and Arjun begins. Karna sends a dazzling arrow, which spits fire towards Arjun. Krishna presess Arjun’ss chariot five fingers deep in the mud at the last minute, so that the shaft misses Arjun’s head and only strikes his crown. Arjun burns with anger, fixes and arrow on his bow and kills Karna.
Karna Vadh Story
Karna has promised to Kunti that he would not kill any of his sons except Arjuna so he spares them all and moves towards Arjuna. He removes his Nagastra to kill Arjuna and Shalya (Karna’s charioteer) tells him to aim at Arjuna’s chest. Fed up of Shalya’s insults throughout the war, Karna thinks that this too would be a bad advice and so he aims at Arjuna’s head instead of aiming at his chest. However, the Nagastra hits Arjuna’s helmet and not head, sparing Arjuna’s life. Later, Karna has full advantage and is about to kill Arjuna but he sees the sun is about to set and spares Arjuna for the day.
The Karan Vadh
On the 17th day Arjuna and Karna comes once again face to face of each other. Karna performs brilliantly in the war until his chariot gets struck in the mud. He gets off from his chariot and asks Arjuna to pause reminding him the rules of the war. Arjun obliges.
However, Lord Krishna reminds Arjuna the cruelties of Karna and the way he insulted Draupadi. He even reminds him the death of Abhimanyu. This instigates Arjuna and he attacks Karna. Karna defends himself by using Rudraastra. This hits Arjuna and he loses his grip on his Gandiva. Arjuna becomes unconscious. Following the rule of the war, Karna doesn’t hit the unconscious Arjuna, instead he tries to utilize the time to remove his chariot from the mud. However, Arjuna recovers and using the Anjalika weapon kills the defenseless Karna.
Though both, killing a weaponless warrior and killing from back is forbidden in Kurukshetra war, Arjuna kills Karan by the forbidden way only on the insistence of Lord Krishna. This is how Karan Vadh happens in Mahabharat where the great warrior dies at his brother’s hand by wrong means.
