PLC Programming Tutorial for Beginners_ Part-2

In this lesson we will learn how to write a PLC program using an "S7 300” PLC and “STEP 7” software.
We have two pumps which are being used to transfer two separate liquids into this tank.Inside the tank there are two level switches installed in the lower and upper parts of the tank respectively.
There is also an electrically powered mixer inside the tank which starts working for a defined period of time, mixing the two liquids together after the tank has filled.
We also have a discharge valve in the bottom of the tank which controls the draining of the liquid from the tank.
When the level of the liquid drops to the level of the switch's position the contact closes, sending a 24 volt DC signal to the PLC input.
We want to write the program so that when the level of the liquid reaches this minimum, the pumps will be activated and begin filling the tank with the liquids.
The pumps continue filling the tank until the level reaches its maximum at the higher level switch. When this happens the open contacts in the switch will be closed and another 24 volt signal will be sent to the PLC input telling us that the tank is full.
When this signal has been sent, first the pumps should shut down so that no more liquid enters the tank, and then this mixer should be turned on.
We want the mixer to operate for seven seconds, mixing the liquids that have been pumped into the tank.
After seven seconds the mixer should automatically shut down and this discharge valve should open.
With the valve open the liquid will be discharged from the tank and transferred to another location within the factory to be processed.
When the level of the liquid in the tank drops to the minimum set level of the lower switch, the switch contacts will close again thus starting a repeat of the cycle!

The difference between PLC and Microcontroller, we can say that they are the same but there are some differences between them We can say that PLC works with power and Microcontroller works with electronic. i.e. PLC works with relays while Microcontroller works with transistors (even it may work with electronic relays), Usually the Microcontroller does not work as a stand alone controller but it came as a part of electronic circuit or device, while the PLC is a stand alone controlling device that I can program it for any process that I have.
In this video we considering above point we will try to find out the Difference between PLC and Microcontroller.

Allen-Bradley
Allen-Bradley is the brand-name of a line of Factory Automation Equipment manufactured by Rockwell Automation (NYSE ROK). The company, with revenues of approximately US$6.4 billion in 2013, manufactures programmable logic controllers (PLC), human-machine interfaces, sensors, safety components and systems, software, drives and drive systems, contactors, motor control centers, and systems made of these and similar products. Rockwell Automation also provides asset management services including repair and consulting. Rockwell Automation's headquarters is in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
The Allen-Bradley Clock Tower is a Milwaukee landmark featuring the largest four-sided clock in the western hemisphere.
History
The company was founded in 1903 as the Compression Rheostat Company by Dr. Stanton Allen and Lynde Bradley with an initial investment of $1,000. In 1910 the firm was renamed Allen-Bradley Company. In 1952 they opened a subsidiary in Galt, Ontario, Canada, that employs over 1000 people. In 1985 a company record was set as the fiscal year ended with $1 billion in sales. In February 1995, Rockwell International purchased Allen-Bradley for $1.651 billion, which is the largest acquisition in Wisconsin history. For all intents and purposes, Allen-Bradley took over Rockwell's industrial automation division.

Ladder Logic
Ladder Logic was the game for the 1998 FIRST Robotics Competition.
Field
The playing field is a carpeted, hexagon-shaped area with an 8 ft (2 m) tall central goal. Three horizontal rail goals extend outward from the center. Each ball placed on the rail goals scores points and each ball in the center doubles the team's score. Around the perimeter of the field are three stations for human players, who work with remote controlled robots on the field to score points. At the start of each match, each team has 3 colored ball at their player station and three balls on the field, and three balls on the rails.
Robots
Each robot can weigh up to 130 lb (59 kg), and must start each match small enough to fit inside a 30" x 36" x 48" space. The robots are powered by two Skil 12 volt rechargeable batteries and use motors from Skil, Delco, and Delphi Interior and Lighting, speed controllers from Tekin, pumps from McCord Winn Textron, air cylinders and valves from Numatics, Inc., and a programmable control system supplied by FIRST. Drivers use joysticks from CH Products and switches from Honeywell to remotely control the robots via a radio link which uses RNet wireless modems from Motorola.

In this lesson we will learn how to write a PLC program using an "S7 300” PLC and “STEP 7” software.
We have two pumps which are being used to transfer two separate liquids into this tank.Inside the tank there are two level switches installed in the lower and upper parts of the tank respectively.
There is also an electrically powered mixer inside the tank which starts working for a defined period of time, mixing the two liquids together after the tank has filled.
We also have a discharge valve in the bottom of the tank which controls the draining of the liquid from the tank.
When the level of the liquid drops to the level of the switch's position the contact closes, sending a 24 volt DC signal to the PLC input.
We want to write the program so that when the level of the liquid reaches this minimum, the pumps will be activated and begin filling the tank with the liquids.
The pumps continue filling the tank until the level reaches its maximum at the higher level switch. When this happens the open contacts in the switch will be closed and another 24 volt signal will be sent to the PLC input telling us that the tank is full.
When this signal has been sent, first the pumps should shut down so that no more liquid enters the tank, and then this mixer should be turned on.
We want the mixer to operate for seven seconds, mixing the liquids that have been pumped into the tank.
After seven seconds the mixer should automatically shut down and this discharge valve should open.
With the valve open the liquid will be discharged from the tank and transferred to another location within the factory to be processed.
When the level of the liquid in the tank drops to the minimum set level of the lower switch, the switch contacts will close again thus starting a repeat of the cycle!

When the level of the liquid drops to the level of the switch's position the contact closes, sending a 24 volt DC signal to the PLC input.
We want to write the program so that when the level of the liquid reaches this minimum, the pumps will be activated and begin filling the tank with the liquids.
The pumps continue filling the tank until the level reaches its maximum at the higher level switch. When this happens the open contacts in the switch will be closed and another 24 volt signal will be sent to the PLC input telling us that the tank is full.
When this signal has been sent, first the pumps should shut down so that no more liquid enters the tank, and then this mixer should be turned on.
We want the mixer to operate for seven seconds, mixing the liquids that have been pumped into the tank.
After seven seconds the mixer should automatically shut down and this discharge valve should open.
With the valve open the liquid will be discharged from the tank and transferred to another location within the factory to be processed.
When the level of the liquid in the tank drops to the minimum set level of the lower switch, the switch contacts will close again thus starting a repeat of the cycle!

PLC Programming Tutorial for Beginners_ Part-2

In this lesson we will learn how to write a PLC program using an "S7 300” PLC and “STEP 7” software.
We have two pumps which are being used to transfer two separate liquids into this tank.Inside the tank there are two level switches installed in the lower and upper parts of the tank respectively.
There is also an electrically powered mixer inside the tank which starts working for a defined period of time, mixing the two liquids together after the tank has filled.
We also have a discharge valve in the bottom of the tank which controls the draining of the liquid from the tank.
When the level of the liquid drops to the level of the switch's position the contact closes, sending a 24 volt DC signal to the PLC input.
We want to write the program so that when the level of the liquid reaches this minimum, the pumps will be activated and begin filling the tank with the liquids.
The pumps continue filling the tank until the level reaches its maximum at the higher level switch. When this happens the open contacts in the switch will be closed and another 24 volt signal will be sent to the PLC input telling us that the tank is full.
When this signal has been sent, first the pumps should shut down so that no more liquid enters the tank, and then this mixer should be turned on.
We want the mixer to operate for seven seconds, mixing the liquids that have been pumped into the tank.
After seven seconds the mixer should automatically shut down and this discharge valve should open.
With the valve open the liquid will be discharged from the tank and transferred to another location within the factory to be processed.
When the level of the liquid in the tank drops to the minimum set level of the lower switch, the switch contacts will close again thus starting a repeat of the cycle!

This is an introduction and tear down of a couple of Arduino based industrial PLCs that RS-Components provided for me to review and tryout in various projects
The brand is "Industrial Shield" and they are from a company in Barcelona, Spain called "Boot and Work S.L."
One of the really cool things about these PLCs is that they are based on Open Source Hardware in the form of an Arduino Leonardo or the Arduino MEGA2560... yes the real thing, no modifications aside from providing an industrial strength interfacing circuits around them, wrapped up in a nice industrial DIN rail mountable package including full 24V operation, 0-10V analog in and out as well as isolated relay outputs and OPTO isolated digital inputs and outputs
These modules come in a variety of sizes ranging from 19 I/O through to 58. and that is just within a single module.
ALL modules fully support I2C, SPI, MODBUS, RS485, RS232 etc. and as such can be expanded to the limit of those bus limits and of course the size of program space.
the ATMEGA based M-Duino modules also sport an Ethernet port further expanding on its capabilities including WEB interfacing, HMI interaction and Smart Device remote control
Basically these Industrial PLCs are limited in capability by your imagination and in follow-up videos I will be exploring some of these capabilities including interfacing to my CNC project, interpreting the G-Code into X, Y, Z motion instructions for the CNC with optional VFD control
