Mingle Media TV and Red Carpet Report host, AJ Hamilton, were invited to cover the 41st Annual Annie Awards for The International Animated Film Society, ASIFA-Hollywood held at UCLA's Royce Hall. This year, honorary awards were presented to Steven Spielberg, Katsuhiro Otomo and Phil Tippett. The big winner of the night was Disney's "Frozen" with the studio picking up 11 awards (Walt Disney Animation Studios and Disney Television Animation) and Disney-Pixar took home another five awards. DreamWorks Animation won three Annie Awards and 20th Century Fox Television and the Cartoon Network each picked up two. Robert R. "Rob" Minkoff (born August 11, 1962) is an American filmmaker. He is known for directing the Academy Award–winning animated feature The Lion King (along with Roger Allers).
Minkoff was born in Palo Alto, California. He studied at California Institute of the Arts in the early 1980s in the Character Animation department. He has directed several films for Walt Disney Feature Animation, including The Lion King (1994) and two of the Roger Rabbit shorts: Tummy Trouble (1989) and Roller Coaster Rabbit (1990). While working at Disney he wrote the song "Good Company" for Oliver & Company. He also made the films Stuart Little (1999), Stuart Little 2 (2002), The Haunted Mansion (2003) and The Forbidden Kingdom (2008).
Minkoff also participates as a member of the jury for the NYICFF, a local New York City Film Festival dedicated to screening films for children between the ages of 3 and 18.
He is currently at DreamWorks Animation directing a 2014 computer-animated film Mr. Peabody & Sherman. He is also attached to direct the fantasy action adventure Chinese Odyssey.

The big winner of the night was Disney's "Frozen" with the studio picking up 11 awards (Walt Disney Animation Studios and Disney Television Animation) and Disney-Pixar took home another five awards. Once wandering in Chinatown, Jason accidentally discovers a mystical staff and taken back to ancient Chinese times. It turned out that the stick of Sun Wukong and only he can take Jason to the present. Set out to find Sun Wukong, Lu Yen meets boy, Despite Increase and Kim Yen Tu, who helped him a lot. Finally Jason was also liberating for the Monkey King. Sun Wukong is determined to follow Ta Tang Monk to Western pathfinder scriptures. Before leaving, Wukong has sought to take the boy back to the present. After this journey he has become a true soldier and learned the true meaning of kung fu. - An American teenager named Jason (Michael Angarano), which impassioned martial arts films in Hong Kong, was accidentally found the tree set of US table Monkey King in a pawnshop. He decided to make a journey to ancient China. Here he met 3 friends: good drunken bum Lu Yen (Jackie Chan), Mac Increase monk (Jet Li), beautiful girls but they were filled with hatred Kim Yen Tu (Liu Yifei) . Four people together to go frees Sun Wukong is being called evil Ngoc Cuong boxer (Million Long) held for 500 years, the tree returned to set the table. The plot revolves around the rescue Sun Wukong, the film is an unreal space mixed reality with characters in the world of martial arts. First, Western elements included in a work of Chinese martial arts, when one of the four main characters - a young American in the modern world, dotted the Chinese wuxia work lost about past, to the Central Highlands region contains many mysteries and participated in the rescue Sun Wukong character with Jet Li, Jackie Chan and Liu Yifei undertake.
Jason is a shy boy, frail but very passionate Hong Kong kung fu films and the ancient Chinese legend. Once wandering in Chinatown, Jason accidentally discovers a mystical staff and taken back to ancient Chinese times. It turned out that the stick of Sun Wukong and only he can take Jason to the present. Set out to find Sun Wukong, Lu Yen meets boy, Despite Increase and Kim Yen Tu, who helped him a lot. Finally Jason was also liberating for the Monkey King. Sun Wukong is determined to follow Ta Tang Monk to Western pathfinder scriptures. Before leaving, Wukong has sought to take the boy back to the present. After this journey he has become a true soldier and learned the true meaning of kung fu. - An American teenager named Jason (Michael Angarano), which impassioned martial arts films in Hong Kong, was accidentally found the tree set of US table Monkey King in a pawnshop. He decided to make a journey to ancient China. Here he met 3 friends: good drunken bum Lu Yen (Jackie Chan), Mac Increase monk (Jet Li), beautiful girls but they were filled with hatred Kim Yen Tu (Liu Yifei) . Four people together to go frees Sun Wukong is being called evil Ngoc Cuong boxer (Million Long) held for 500 years, the tree returned to set the table. Jim e Sara Evers, due agenti immobiliari di successo, sono chiamati per valutare una casa mentre con i figli stanno partendo per un weekend di tutto relax. La decisione di fermarsi nello strano «maniero» dà il via a un’incredibile avventura horror all’insegna di fantasmi, passaggi segreti, streghe… La famosa attrazione del parco divertimenti di Disneyland
– The Haunted Mansion, per l’appunto – è l’ispiratrice della nuova sfida del regista Rob Minkoff. Minkoff cerca di riportare in scena una versione più moderna e scanzonata della classica e abusata storia d’orrore e fantasy, incentrata su una casa infestata da fantasmi imprigionati sulla terra a causa di una maledizione.
Il film riprende un filone che ha attraversato diverse fasi della storia del cinema. Non si possono dimenticare, infatti, pellicole
– molto più datate – come quella interpretata da Buster Keaton del 1921, e una meno famosa del 1958, in cui la casa è infestata dai fantasmi per via di una maledizione, che costringe i suoi abitanti ad agognare il riposo eterno e tormentare i poveri umani che incappano in quella zona.
Minkoff riesce a dare una versione non particolarmente originale dal punto di vista della storia. Tuttavia emerge molto chiaramente la sua mano nelle ambientazioni e negli effetti speciali, da lui stesso creati. Pensiamo a esempio al bagliore della luna, che rivela al pubblico se il personaggio che hanno di fronte sia un fantasma o meno. Ancor di più, si ha come l’impressione che queste «anime in pena» siano state direttamente «ingaggiate» subito dopo le riprese con i pirati di Johnny Depp.
A farne le spese è soprattutto il pubblico, che può non notare queste somiglianze, ma certamente non può dimenticare una storia che – all’uscita dalla sala – ha deluso ogni attesa.
La casa dei fantasmi non ha nulla a che fare con la brillante ironia e l’originalità di riprendere e stravolgere un genere ben noto, come quello piratesco, de La maledizione della prima luna.
L’espediente di attualizzare e dare una motivazione credibile all’arrivo della famiglia Evers nella casa infestata, facendone una coppia di agenti immobiliari, finisce per non essere efficace, perché accompagnato dai soliti stereotipi sulle famiglie americane in crisi e le maledizioni, di cui possono essere vittime casate nobiliari.
Il film mette quindi in campo le solite situazioni, quali un padre che lavora troppo, una moglie comprensiva che è arrivata al limite della sopportazione, una coppia di figli di cui l’uno –Michael – è un fifone dichiarato, mentre l’altra – Megan – «sa il fatto suo» e non teme nulla.

La decisione di fermarsi nello strano «maniero» dà il via a un’incredibile avventura horror all’insegna di fantasmi, passaggi segreti, streghe… La famosa attrazione del parco divertimenti di Disneyland
– The Haunted Mansion, per l’appunto – è l’ispiratrice della nuova sfida del regista Rob Minkoff. Minkoff cerca di riportare in scena una versione più moderna e scanzonata della classica e abusata storia d’orrore e fantasy, incentrata su una casa infestata da fantasmi imprigionati sulla terra a causa di una maledizione.
Il film riprende un filone che ha attraversato diverse fasi della storia del cinema. Non si possono dimenticare, infatti, pellicole
– molto più datate – come quella interpretata da Buster Keaton del 1921, e una meno famosa del 1958, in cui la casa è infestata dai fantasmi per via di una maledizione, che costringe i suoi abitanti ad agognare il riposo eterno e tormentare i poveri umani che incappano in quella zona.
Minkoff riesce a dare una versione non particolarmente originale dal punto di vista della storia. Tuttavia emerge molto chiaramente la sua mano nelle ambientazioni e negli effetti speciali, da lui stesso creati. Pensiamo a esempio al bagliore della luna, che rivela al pubblico se il personaggio che hanno di fronte sia un fantasma o meno. Ancor di più, si ha come l’impressione che queste «anime in pena» siano state direttamente «ingaggiate» subito dopo le riprese con i pirati di Johnny Depp.
A farne le spese è soprattutto il pubblico, che può non notare queste somiglianze, ma certamente non può dimenticare una storia che – all’uscita dalla sala – ha deluso ogni attesa.
La casa dei fantasmi non ha nulla a che fare con la brillante ironia e l’originalità di riprendere e stravolgere un genere ben noto, come quello piratesco, de La maledizione della prima luna.
L’espediente di attualizzare e dare una motivazione credibile all’arrivo della famiglia Evers nella casa infestata, facendone una coppia di agenti immobiliari, finisce per non essere efficace, perché accompagnato dai soliti stereotipi sulle famiglie americane in crisi e le maledizioni, di cui possono essere vittime casate nobiliari.

Jim e Sara Evers, due agenti immobiliari di successo, sono chiamati per valutare una casa mentre con i figli stanno partendo per un weekend di tutto relax. La decisione di fermarsi nello strano «maniero» dà il via a un’incredibile avventura horror all’insegna di fantasmi, passaggi segreti, streghe… La famosa attrazione del parco divertimenti di Disneyland
– The Haunted Mansion, per l’appunto – è l’ispiratrice della nuova sfida del regista Rob Minkoff. Minkoff cerca di riportare in scena una versione più moderna e scanzonata della classica e abusata storia d’orrore e fantasy, incentrata su una casa infestata da fantasmi imprigionati sulla terra a causa di una maledizione.
Il film riprende un filone che ha attraversato diverse fasi della storia del cinema. Non si possono dimenticare, infatti, pellicole
– molto più datate – come quella interpretata da Buster Keaton del 1921, e una meno famosa del 1958, in cui la casa è infestata dai fantasmi per via di una maledizione, che costringe i suoi abitanti ad agognare il riposo eterno e tormentare i poveri umani che incappano in quella zona.
Minkoff riesce a dare una versione non particolarmente originale dal punto di vista della storia. Tuttavia emerge molto chiaramente la sua mano nelle ambientazioni e negli effetti speciali, da lui stesso creati. Pensiamo a esempio al bagliore della luna, che rivela al pubblico se il personaggio che hanno di fronte sia un fantasma o meno. Ancor di più, si ha come l’impressione che queste «anime in pena» siano state direttamente «ingaggiate» subito dopo le riprese con i pirati di Johnny Depp.
A farne le spese è soprattutto il pubblico, che può non notare queste somiglianze, ma certamente non può dimenticare una storia che – all’uscita dalla sala – ha deluso ogni attesa.
La casa dei fantasmi non ha nulla a che fare con la brillante ironia e l’originalità di riprendere e stravolgere un genere ben noto, come quello piratesco, de La maledizione della prima luna.
L’espediente di attualizzare e dare una motivazione credibile all’arrivo della famiglia Evers nella casa infestata, facendone una coppia di agenti immobiliari, finisce per non essere efficace, perché accompagnato dai soliti stereotipi sulle famiglie americane in crisi e le maledizioni, di cui possono essere vittime casate nobiliari.
Il film mette quindi in campo le solite situazioni, quali un padre che lavora troppo, una moglie comprensiva che è arrivata al limite della sopportazione, una coppia di figli di cui l’uno –Michael – è un fifone dichiarato, mentre l’altra – Megan – «sa il fatto suo» e non teme nulla.
