Regime change is the replacement of one regime with another. Use of the term dates to at least 1925. Regime change may replace all or part of the state's most critical leadership system, administrative apparatus, or bureaucracy.
It can be the deliberate product of outside force, as in warfare. Rollback is the military strategy to impose a regime change by defeating an enemy and removing its regime by force. Regime change can occur through inside change caused by revolution, coup d'état or reconstruction following the failure of a state.
The transition from one political regime to another, especially through concerted political or military action - most recently seen in the regime change undergone by Tunisia.
The term has been popularized by recent US presidents. Bill Clinton and George W. Bush regularly used the term in reference to Saddam Hussein's regime in Iraq. Ronald Reagan had previously called for regime change in Libya, directing the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) to work towards that goal.

Iraq (/ɪˈræk/, i/ɪˈrɑːk/, or /aɪˈræk/; Arabic: العراق al-‘Irāq, Kurdish: Êraq), officially the Republic of Iraq (Arabic:
جمهورية العراق Jumhūrīyat al-‘Irāq; Kurdish: كۆماری عێراق Komar-i ‘Êraq), is a country in Western Asia. The country borders Turkey to the north, Iran to the east, Kuwait to the southeast, Saudi Arabia to the south, Jordan to the southwest, and Syria to the west. The southern part of Iraq is within the Arabian Peninsula. The capital, Baghdad, is in the centre of the country and its largest city. The largest ethnic groups in Iraq are Arabs and Kurds. Other ethnic groups include Assyrians, Turkmen, Shabakis, Yazidis, Armenians, Mandeans, Circassians, and Kawliya. Around 95% of the country's 36 million citizens are Shia or Sunni Muslims, with Christianity, Yarsan, Yezidism, and Mandeanism also present.
Iraq has a narrow section of coastline measuring 58 km (36 mi) on the northern Persian Gulf and its territory encompasses the Mesopotamian Alluvial Plain, the northwestern end of the Zagros mountain range, and the eastern part of the Syrian Desert. Two major rivers, the Tigris and Euphrates, run south through the centre of Iraq and flow into the Shatt al-Arab near the Persian Gulf. These rivers provide Iraq with significant amounts of fertile land.

The United States of America (USA), commonly referred to as the United States (U.S.) or America, is a federal republic composed of 50 states, a federal district, five major territories and various possessions. The 48 contiguous states and Washington, D.C., are in central North America between Canada and Mexico. The state of Alaska is in the northwestern part of North America and the state of Hawaii is an archipelago in the mid-Pacific. The territories are scattered about the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. At 3.8 million square miles (9.842 million km2) and with over 320 million people, the country is the world's third or fourth-largest by total area and the third most populous. It is one of the world's most ethnically diverse and multicultural nations, the product of large-scale immigration from many countries. The geography and climate of the United States are also extremely diverse, and the country is home to a wide variety of wildlife.
Change, The Change, or Changing may refer to:
Saddam Hussein Abd al-Majid al-Tikriti (Arabic: صدام حسين عبد المجيد التكريتي Ṣaddām Ḥusayn ʿAbd al-Maǧīd al-Tikrītī; 28 April 1937 – 30 December 2006) was the fifth President of Iraq, serving in this capacity from 16 July 1979 until 9 April 2003. A leading member of the revolutionary Arab Socialist Ba'ath Party, and later, the Baghdad-based Ba'ath Party and its regional organization Ba'ath Party – Iraq Region—which espoused Ba'athism, a mix of Arab nationalism and socialism—Saddam played a key role in the 1968 coup (later referred to as the 17 July Revolution) that brought the party to power in Iraq.
As vice president under the ailing General Ahmed Hassan al-Bakr, and at a time when many groups were considered capable of overthrowing the government, Saddam created security forces through which he tightly controlled conflict between the government and the armed forces. In the early 1970s, Saddam nationalized oil and other industries. The state-owned banks were put under his control, leaving the system eventually insolvent mostly due to the Iran–Iraq War, the Gulf War, and UN sanctions. Through the 1970s, Saddam cemented his authority over the apparatuses of government as oil money helped Iraq's economy to grow at a rapid pace. Positions of power in the country were mostly filled with Sunni Arabs, a minority that made up only a fifth of the population.

http://democracynow.org - As we speak with scholar Vijay Prashad about how the United States carried out regime change in Libya and left behind a failed state, he notes: "The story in Libya is not dissimilar to the story in Iraq." Both are politically divided societies in which the United States deposed long-entrenched leaders, Muammar Gaddafi in Libya and Saddam Hussein in Iraq, and left behind failed states. Prashad adds that "in both instances, when the strongman was captured ... they said, 'We are ready to negotiate,' and the United States essentially was not interested in negotiating." He says the outcome in Libya contributed to the destabilization of Mali, Tunisia and much of northern Africa. When President George W. Bush stood on the decks of the U.S.S. Lincoln in May 2003 and announced the victorious end to major combat operations in Iraq, he did so in front of a huge banner that proclaimed "Mission Accomplished." American forces had successfully removed the regime of Saddam Hussein with "rapid decisive operations"-and yet the United States was unprepared to effectively replace that regime. Between the invasion of Iraq in March 2003 and the creation of the Coalition Provisional Authority (CPA) that May, the Allied forces struggled to plug the governance gap created by the removal of Saddam Hussein's regime. Plugging that gap became the job of the Office of Reconstruction and Humanitarian Assistance. Cobbled together with staff from diverse federal agencies and military branch...
News of leaked memos indicating that former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair had already agreed to work with the George W. Stephen Zunes, a major critic of the Bush administration and professor of politics and international studies at the University of San Francisco, offers his view as to why public reaction has been so tepid and what the invasion was really about. "This is the first time in history that the president of a state has ordered the president of another state to leave his own country. It is a mess, it is unacceptable by any logic, unless we have to accept the law of the jungle. Might is right, which violates all principles enshrined in the charter of the United Nations. We reject totally this madness, the aggression and the outlaw policy. This war will be a crime against humanity. It is illegal, immoral and unjustifiable. It will cause huge casualties, great destruction and endless suffering. This was in short, is tantamount to genocide. The Leader of Iran’s Islamic Revolution has dismissed the US claim of seeking to topple the Islamic Republic. Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei says the hollow rhetoric of the US government is not worthy of attention. The Leader made the remarks in response to the US secretary of state’s recent comment that Washington wants a transition of power in Iran. Ayatollah Khamenei said the US has always sought to topple Iran's Islamic establishment but it has always suffered humiliating defeats. The Leader described the new US administration as QOUTE a novice stabber who will come to its senses after getting slapped in the face. Speaking of Iran’s stability in a volatile region, he said the country owes its security to Iranian forces who have fought takfiri terrorists in Iraq and Syria. Ayatollah Kh...

The first day of the UN General Assembly in New York was quite predictably marked by a boiling over of tension between Iran and Israel. Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad used his speech at the gathering to denounce Israel's alleged nuclear stockpiles and its occupation of Palestine. The Iranian president's address to leaders and ministers from over 100 countries prompted Israel's ambassador to walk out. Ahmadinejad also implicitly accused the US of shielding Israel and paving the way for a strike on Tehran. This comes just days after Washington decided to remove an Iranian militant group, the MEK off its terror blacklist. Jamal Abdi, the Policy Director of the National Iranian American Council, believes the sudden change of heart over an organization striving to overthrow the Iranian ...

Ann Coulter epitomizes the neo-conservative stance on foreign policy and domestic security in this interview with John Stossel. She advocates toppling foreign governments based on their natural resources, spying on American citizens, and torture. Coulter is an imperialist with no regard for the constitution. The other guest is Matt Welch from Reason Magazine.
The Iraq Liberation Act of 1998 (signed into law by Bill Clinton on October 31, 1998) stated, "It should be the policy of the United States to support efforts to remove the regime headed by Saddam Hussein from power in Iraq and to promote the emergence of a democratic government to replace that regime." The legislation also allocated $97,000,000 to aid Iraqi democratic opposition organizations. The first part of this video is comments made on November 15, 1998 and the second clip is from a December 16, 1998 speech.
Daniel Patrick Welch, a political commentator, says the United States is seeking “a regime change” in both Iraq and Syria. “The US would like to have a regime change in both countries,” Welch told Press TV on Tuesday. He made the remarks when asked about a report that a US-backed Free Syrian Army (FSA) is fighting the ISIL terrorist group over a key supply route. The FSA is currently battling the ISIL group in north of Aleppo, Syria. In the meantime, the Obama administration is trying to devise a strategy to deal with a force that US Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel says is “beyond anything we have ever seen.” Welch said it is difficult to discuss any reports which are published by US media outlets. “It’s kind of hard to comment on stories from within the US propaganda machines.” He went...

Democracynow.org - President Barack Obama and Russian President Vladimir Putin held their first formal meeting in two years on Monday in New York to discuss Syria and Ukraine. During the 90-minute meeting, Obama and Putin agreed that their armed forces should hold talks to avoid coming into conflict in Syria, where fighting has killed more than 200,000 people and displaced millions. Both leaders addressed the United Nations Monday, with Putin defending Russia’s support for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, and Obama expressing willingness to work with Russia to resolve the crisis in Syria. According to reports, however, the United States ignored a Russian offer in 2012 to have Assad step aside at some point after peace talks had started between the regime and the opposition. The rationale for the Iraq War (i.e. the 2003 invasion of Iraq and subsequent hostilities) has been a contentious issue since the Bush administration began actively pressing for military intervention in Iraq in late 2001. The primary rationalization for the Iraq War was articulated by a joint resolution of the U.S. Congress known as the Iraq Resolution. The U.S. stated that the intent was to remove "a regime that developed and used weapons of mass destruction, that harbored and supported terrorists, committed outrageous human rights abuses, and defied the just demands of the United Nations and the world". Additional reasons have been suggested: "to change the Middle East so as to deny support for militant Islam by pressuring or transforming the nations and transnational systems that suppo...

My finger in the strings
Connected to your hands
I dance the mockery
A theme of decadence
Now I am sinking in this violence
This time emancipation is my right
This is what I want
For you to die
This is what I want
To be alive
Scene of complacency
An apathetic mind
But when it’s brought to light
I see a king on a borrowed throne
Right now the violence taking over
This time regimes are changing in my mind
This is what I want
For you to die
This is what I want
To be alive
And I’m so sorry my old friend
I’m leaving you tonight
So caught in this moment
The last breath of your life
So sorry
