IBTec | Institute of Biomedical Technologies

The Institute of Biomedical Technologies (IBTec) is a multidisciplinary and interfaculty university research institute hosted and administered by the Faculty of Design and Creative Technologies.

The Insitute consists of three research Centres, each of which focuses on a specific area of biomedical research and development.

The institute is comprised of academic and research staff from the School of Engineering, the Faculty of Health and Environmental Sciences as well as collaborators from other distinguished universities, hospitals and medical institutions.

The Institute's primary activities include Fundamental Research and Applied Research with focus on biomedical applications. The first enables IBTec to explore and publish new ideas of original research and development while the second provides synergy for effective transfer of technology and research capabilities between industry, IBTec and the University.

Prof. Khalid A. S. Al-Khateeb from the International Islamic University, Malaysia visited IBTec to discuss possibilities of research collaboration. During his visit, he also presented a seminar on ‘Remote monitoring of Fetal ECG, Biomimetics emulating Human Vision, and developing a Novel Dental Material’.
Dr Mohammad Afsar Uddin was recently appointed as a postdoctoral research fellow at IBTec. Dr Uddin has a PhD from the City University of Hong Kong with a focus on optical polymers.
