Once again, ADM has conducted the annual survey of the Defence Industry. The December 2015/January 2016 edition with the full list of Top 40 Defence Contractors and Top 20 SMEs will be released this week.

The top 10 companies are:

  • 1              BAE Systems Australia
  • 2              ASC Pty
  • 3              Thales Australia
  • 4              Raytheon Australia
  • 5              Airbus Group
  • 6              Lockheed Martin Australia
  • 7              Boeing Defence Australia
  • 8              Lend Lease Building
  • 9              Broadspectrum (formerly Transfield Services)
  • 10            Spotless Group

The total revenue of the Top 40 companies in 2015 is $9.241 billion, slightly lower than the 2014 total of $9.268 billion, a scant 0.3 per cent change.

While this number is slightly down from the previous year, it must be noted that there are some notable absences from the survey this year.

The lower figure does not necessarily point to a downturn or reduction in overall business as there are two companies not participating this year that might reasonably have been expected to have a significant impact on the overall result.

The two companies are: John Holland Group Pty Ltd (turnover $570.45 million in 2014) and Forgacs (turnover $150 million in 2014). At those figures, the two companies would have added a net $650 million to the total. Again, this is an assumption that their businesses would have turned over the same or similar amounts.

John Holland was purchased by CCCC International Holding Limited (CCCI), a wholly owned subsidiary of China Communications Construction Company Limited (CCCC) and Perth based Civmec has purchased Forgacs. Both declined to participate this year for obvious reasons.

With that in mind, the sector saw healthy growth in 2015 from the previous year.

In 2014, the Top 20 Defence SMEs survey topped $600 million for the first time and that upward trajectory has continued in 2015. The total revenue of the Top 20 Defence SMEs is $642.68 million in 2015.

ADM’s Top 40 Defence Contractors is used extensively by government, Defence and Defence industry as a key source of industry intelligence and has been operating for over two decades.
