Montmartre (French pronunciation: [mɔ̃.maʁtʁ]) is a large hill in Paris's 18th arrondissement. It is 130 metres high and gives its name to the surrounding district, part of the Right Bank in the northern section of the city. The historic district established by the City of Paris in 1995 is bordered by rue Caulaincourt and rue Custine on the north; rue de Clignancourt on the east; boulevard de Clichy and boulevard de Rochechouart to the south. containing sixty hectares. Montmartre is primarily known for the white-domed Basilica of the Sacré-Cœur on its summit and as a nightclub district. The other, older, church on the hill is Saint Pierre de Montmartre, which claims to be the location at which the Jesuit order of priests was founded.
At the beginning of the twentieth century, during the Belle Époque, many artists had studios or worked in or around Montmartre, including Salvador Dalí, Amedeo Modigliani, Claude Monet,Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Piet Mondrian, Pablo Picasso, Camille Pissarro and Vincent van Gogh. Montmartre is also the setting for several hit films. This site is served by metro line 2 stations of Anvers, Pigalle and Blanche and the line 12 stations of Pigalle, Abbesses, Lamarck - Caulaincourt and Jules Joffrin.
Paris (UK: /ˈpærɪs/ PARR-iss; US: i/ˈpɛərɪs/ PAIR-iss; French: [paʁi]) is the capital and most populous city of France. Situated on the Seine River, in the north of the country, it is in the centre of the Île-de-France region, also known as the région parisienne, "Paris Region". The City of Paris has an area of 105 km² (41 mi²) and a population of 2,241,346 (2014 estimate) within its administrative borders essentially unchanged since 1860.
Since the 19th century, the built-up area of Paris has grown far beyond its administrative borders; together with its suburbs, the whole agglomeration has a population of 10,550,350 (Jan. 2012 census).Paris' metropolitan area spans most of the Paris region and has a population of 12,341,418 (Jan. 2012 census), or one-fifth of the population of France. The administrative region covers 12,012 km² (4,638 mi²), with approximately 12 million inhabitants as of 2014, and has its own regional council and president.
Paris was founded in the 3rd century BC by a Celtic people called the Parisii, who gave the city its name. By the 12th century, Paris was the largest city in the western world, a prosperous trading centre, and the home of the University of Paris, one of the first in Europe. In the 18th century, it was the centre stage for the French Revolution, and became an important centre of finance, commerce, fashion, science, and the arts, a position it still retains today.

The state has a maritime border in the Atlantic Ocean with Rhode Island, east of Long Island, as well as an international border with the Canadian provinces of Quebec to the north and Ontario to the west and north. The state of New York, with an estimated 19.8 million residents in 2015, is often referred to as New York State to distinguish it from New York City, the state's most populous city and its economic hub.
With an estimated population of nearly 8.5 million in 2014, New York City is the most populous city in the United States and the premier gateway for legal immigration to the United States. New York City makes up over 40% of the population of New York State. Two-thirds of the state's population lives in the New York City Metropolitan Area, and nearly 40% live on Long Island. Both the state and New York City were named for the 17th century Duke of York, future King James II of England. Moulin Rouge (French pronunciation: [mu.lɛ̃ ʁuʒ], French for "Red Mill") is a cabaret in Paris, France.
The original house, which burned down in 1915, was co-founded in 1889 by Charles Zidler and Joseph Oller, who also owned the Paris Olympia. Close to Montmartre in the Paris district of Pigalle on Boulevard de Clichy in the 18th arrondissement, it is marked by the red windmill on its roof. The closest métro station is Blanche.
Moulin Rouge is best known as the spiritual birthplace of the modern form of the can-can dance. Originally introduced as a seductive dance by the courtesans who operated from the site, the can-can dance revue evolved into a form of entertainment of its own and led to the introduction of cabarets across Europe. Today, the Moulin Rouge is a tourist attraction, offering musical dance entertainment for visitors from around the world. The club's decor still contains much of the romance of fin de siècle France.

Hello and welcome for another video tour of a fantastic neighborhood in Paris by New York Habitat ( http://www.nyhabitat.com ). In this video, we visit the lovely district of Montmartre, a Paris neighborhood with winding streets that give the feeling that you have left Paris, which is one of the trendiest and most curious districts of the city. This will be the first of a two-part series of video tours on this fantastic neighborhood. Also, feel free to watch other great video tours of Paris neighborhoods, such as this one of the Champs Elysees ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5qz6-ERBht8 ) or this one of Saint-Germain-des-Pres ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AePsn_S_ucY ). Montmartre, or "the Mountain of the Martyrs," most likely gets its name from the martyr Saint Denis. When wanderi...
This is a look at the hilly Montmartre area of Paris, with emphasis on the parts of the butte that are off the well-worn tourist track. I've already made a video that shows the touristy parts of Montmartre, such as Sacré-Cœur basilica and the artists' square (place du Tertre). You can find that on my channel, or there's a link to it at the end of this video. This considerably longer video explores just about everything except those touristy areas. Of course, all of Montmartre (and all of Paris) attracts tourists, but the density of tourists declines by at least a factor of 100 once you are off the beaten track. There is a great deal to see in Montmartre, and this video cannot do it proper justice in 38 minutes. It's much more interesting to walk through this neighborhood than it is to se...

This video contains a number of clips from my last video of Paris, but also some previously unseen footage (wahey). Produced purely for the benefit of http://www.youtube.com/cdmagz , it shows the delights of visiting the Montmartre district of Paris with its colourful characters, great cafes and restaurants and above all the Sacre Coeur Church from where you can pretty much see the whole of Paris. The Pigalle is just at the bottom of the hill, with the Moulin Rouge and other delights. http://www.eurodestination.com/paris/

About the first two minutes of the video contains scenes of Pigalle (including the Moulin Rouge); Sacré-Cœur Basilica and the areas on Montmartre start at 03:11. Turn on closed captions if you want narration. I redid the captions on January 8 because the original captions were a bit messy. Most of the principal photography was carried out on March 7, 2011. I also have another video that shows parts of Montmartre that are off the beaten tourist track. Find it on my channel, or use the link at the end of this video.

As a designated historic area, little development is allowed in Montmartre so, thankfully, it has retained much of its character and village-like charm. Just walking around the district is a treat, but if you want to do some Funiculaire at Montmartre, Paris The Funiculaire sightseeing or cultural visits, head to the Musée de Montmartre, where artist Maurice Utrillo once lived and painted, as well as the mansion behind it, which was once occupied by Renoir. A trip to the Montmartre Cemetery is also in order, and guests can view the graves of many great artists. Of course, you may also want to take in dinner and a show at Moulin Rouge or one of the many other nightclubs in the neighborhood. It is located on a hill that is thirty metres high and provides a good view of both Paris and the River Seine. The magnificent basilica on top of Montmartre Hill can be seen for miles and is synonymous with Paris. Beneath Sacré Coeur is the former winegrowers´ village of Montmartre that, at the end of the 19th century, attracted several important artists. Montmartre’s exotic nightlife also gave it a special appeal and venues such as the Moulin Rouge have become world famous. We arrive in the most romantic city in the world, Paris, via the Orly Airport. We took the tram and the train to get to our AIRBNB in Paris, in the heart of Le Marais. One of the most important travel tips is for you to always make sure your pockets, bags and what-have-yous are theft proof! Also, be careful with people who volunteer to help you get tickets from the ticket booth. They’re not exactly being helpful, some of them could be after your cash. So please, research well on how to get from the airport to the city and always ask for directions from the airport personnel, if needed. A little bit of French goes a long way! Le Marais was such a nice neighborhood. There were lots of shops and cafes within the area. **not in video** For our first food stop, we walked to Marché des ...

Today, David Hill will take you on a tour of Montmartre for the second part of our series on this famous neighborhood. While it used to be a small bohemian village on a hill outside of Paris, Montmartre has now become one of the most famous neighborhoods of the French capital city. Montmartre is one of the last towns that were amalgamated during the expansion of Paris in the 19th century. Its origins have made it one of the coolest and most curious neighborhoods of Paris. On the Montmartre
Along Place du Têtre
The little old cafés to please you
Sitting there and smile, or to rest for a while
Watching the young folks, who're passing you by
Artists and painters
Along Place du Têtre
They'll make you a mem'ry for ever
Don't even move your hands
Just to give him a chance
The picture he's painting, will really be French
We love you Montmartre
Even by darkness, a painters delight
We come to see you, year after year, by day, by night
We love you Montmartre
Even by darkness, a painters delight
We come to see you, year after year, by day, by night
Even by storm and by rain
We hope we'll see you again
High on that mountain
Along Place du Têtre
Where deep in the night life is easy
Where they say, when you go home
"Au revoir et bon voyage"
We're sorry to say "Goodbye and so long"
We love you Montmartre
Even by darkness, a painters delight
We come to see you, year after year, by day, by night
We love you Montmartre
Even by darkness, a painters delight
We come to see you, year after year, by day, by night
Even by storm and by rain
