Not from Chicago, but very much Chicago related, as former WMAQ Channel 5 anchor Ron Hunter hosted this program - the pilot for the short-lived New Orleans Most Wanted which aired over WNOL Channel 38 in the Big Easy. This edition spotlights three murders and the disappearance of a 10-year-old child. Program starts with on-the-street interviews of where people fear crime the most.(most say "The area I work"), followed by the opening titles. Ron starts the program with the case of 10-year-old Melissa Estrade, who was reported missing from day camp that summer, introduced by Louisiana Public Service Commissioner John Schwegmann and another 10-year-old girl, Stacy Kerwin; with interviews with family members, fellow campers and camp personnel (alas, Melissa was subsequently found dead in the woods of Mississippi, murdered by her father Gerald Estrade [who is interviewed in this piece]). Show title bumper Commercial: Schwegmann and American Greetings Commercial: Campo Peter Scholtz(?) introduces the next case for Ron to set up, the murder of appliance salesman Fred Frazier who was shot to death while changing a flat tire on his maroon 1987 Plymouth Valiant on the I-10 twin spans; cheesy re-creations of the crime are shown, along with interviews with NOPD Detective Pascal Saladino, Dr. David Mielke, and Fred's sons. After the end of this segment, Ron solicits votes for Officer of the Month, and where to send it, before naming the current recipient - Jefferson Parish sheriff Harry Lee, who is interviewed. Saladino speaks about the possible motives for the crime, what transpired in the lead-in to her murder, and the search for her killer, with accompanying (bad) re-enactments of the events leading to her end Next, Ron poses the question, What kind of crime do you fear the most? (Answers vary from assault, rape, robbery, burglary, mugging, drugs and car vandalism.)
