Vedi (Armenian: Վեդի), is a town in the Ararat Province of Armenia, located along the Vedi river, 50 kilometres (31 miles) south of the capital Yerevan, and 18 50 kilometres (31 miles) southeast of the provincial centre Artashat. According to the 2011 census, the population of the town is 11,384.

Etymology

The name Vedi is derived from the Arabic word wadi (Arabic: وادي‎), meaning valley. It may has been incorporated to Armenian through the Persian language.

History

The territory of Vedi has been settled since the Urartian period. However, the name Vedi was first mentioned during the 13th century by historian Stephen Orbelian in his book History of the Province of Syunik.

Vedi has been a large settlement until the 17th century. At the beginning of the 19th century, the settlement was known as Verin Vedi (Upper Vedi). At that time, the town had around 250 families with a majority of Cucasian Tatars (95%) and a minority of Armenians (5%). However, after signing the Treaty of Turkmenchay by Persia and the Russian Empire in 1828, Vedi became part of Russia, and around 500 Armenians were allowed to move from Maku in Persia to Vedi. In 1849, it was incorporated into the Erivan Governorate. In 1918, it has become a separate gavar (district). 1929, it was turned into a rayon and the town was named Böyuk Vedi within the Armenian SSR. During the 1940s and 1950s, the Armenian population became majority in Böyuk Vedi. In 1962, it was turned into an urban-type settlement and named Vedi. After the independence of Armenia, the settlement was given the status of a town in 1996.

Sameera Reddy

Sameera Reddy (born 14 December 1980) is an Indian actress who primarily appears in Hindi films. She has also appeared in a few Telugu and Tamil films.

Early life

Sameera was born on 14 December 1980 in Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh to a Telugu Reddy family. Her father Chinta Poli (C. P.) Reddy is a businessman, while her mother Nakshatra, referred to as Niki by her daughters and in the media, was a microbiologist and worked with an NGO. She has two siblings, Meghna Reddy, a former VJ and supermodel, and Sushma Reddy, a Bollywood actress and model, both elder to her. She did her schooling at Bombay Scottish School in Mahim, Mumbai and graduated from Sydenham College.

Sameera described herself as a "tomboy" and "the ugly duckling in the family", while citing: "I was plump, had glasses and my glam quotient was rather low till I was 19."

Career

Reddy first appeared in ghazal singer Pankaj Udhas's "Aur Aahista" music video in 1997, when she was a graduate. Sameera was meant to make her debut as an actress in Saravana Subbiah's Tamil film, Citizen, during late 2000, but eventually did not feature. She caught the attention of Bollywood and was cast in a pivotal role in the 2002 Hindi film Maine Dil Tujhko Diya. In 2004, she appeared in Musafir.

Social media

Social media is defined as "a group of Internet-based applications that build on the ideological and technological foundations of Web 2.0, and that allow the creation and exchange of user-generated content." Furthermore, social media depend on mobile and web-based technologies to create highly interactive platforms through which individuals and communities share, co-create, discuss, and modify user-generated content. They introduce substantial and pervasive changes to communication between businesses, organizations, communities, and individuals. These changes are the focus of the emerging field of technoself studies. Social media differ from traditional or industrial media in many ways, including quality,reach, frequency, usability, immediacy, and permanence. Social media operate in a dialogic transmission system (many sources to many receivers). This is in contrast to traditional media that operates under a monologic transmission model (one source to many receivers).

Vijay Antony

Vijay Antony is an Indian music composer, playback singer and actor working in the Tamil film industry.

Career

Vijay Antony was born in Trichy and studied in St.Xavier Higher Secondary School,Tirunelveli Tamil Nadu, India. He obtained a degree from the Trinity College London and set up his own in-house studio called Audiophiles.

He made his debut as a music director in the 2006 film Dishyum, directed by Sasi.

He is the first Indian to win the 2009 Cannes Golden Lion for the Nakka Mukka commercial (for The Times of India) in the Best of Music category. Nakka Mukka raised his fame and that song was played in the 2011 Cricket World Cup.

In 2012, he made his acting debut, enacting the lead role in the thriller film Naan. His next venture as an actor and music director was Salim, in which he portrayed the same character from Naan; both Naan and Salim were sleeper hits.India Pakistan, his next release, a romantic comedy, was the first film he starred in but did not compose music for. He will next be acting in Pichaikkaran, collaborating with his Dishyum director Sasi.

Christmas card

A Christmas card is a greeting card sent as part of the traditional celebration of Christmas in order to convey between people a range of sentiments related to the Christmas and holiday season. Christmas cards are usually exchanged during the weeks preceding Christmas Day by many people (including non-Christians) in Western society and in Asia. The traditional greeting reads "wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year". There are innumerable variations on this greeting, many cards expressing more religious sentiment, or containing a poem, prayer, Christmas song lyrics or Biblical verse; others stay away from religion with an all-inclusive "Season's greetings".

A Christmas card is generally commercially designed and purchased for the occasion. The content of the design might relate directly to the Christmas narrative with depictions of the Nativity of Jesus, or have Christian symbols such as the Star of Bethlehem or a white dove representing both the Holy Spirit and Peace. Many Christmas cards show Christmas traditions, such as seasonal figures (e.g., Santa Claus, snowmen, and reindeer), objects associated with Christmas such as candles, holly, baubles, and Christmas trees, and Christmastime activities such as shopping, caroling, and partying, or other aspects of the season such as the snow and wildlife of the northern winter. Some secular cards depict nostalgic scenes of the past such as crinolined shoppers in 19th century streetscapes; others are humorous, particularly in depicting the antics of Santa and his elves.
