Ian Martin may refer to:

Ian Martin (writer)

Ian Martin (born 1953) is an English Emmy award-winning comedy writer. Ian was a writer for the BAFTA-winning BBC series The Thick Of It. He was famously hired as ‘swearing consultant’ in 2005 by the show’s creator, Armando Iannucci, for Series 1 of the political satire and went on to become a full member of the writing team.

Ian Martin is also a writer and supervising producer for the WGA Award winning HBO series Veep, having written on all seasons and having acted the role of Dave Wickford in Season 2. In 2014 Armando Iannucci described Ian Martin in the Washington Post as being “very good at making the language of political debate suddenly become nonsensical.”

Ian Martin edits the satirical website MARTIAN FM, he is a weekly columnist for the Architects' Journal and a regular contributor to The Guardian newspaper.

He is the author of The Coalition Chronicles (2011) a satirical and scatalogical account of a year in the parliamentary life of the Coalition government. He was a leading contributor to The Missing DoSAC Files (2010).

Ian Martin (UN official)

Ian Martin is an English human rights activist/advisor and sometime United Nations official. His most recent UN assignment was as the Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya. He is currently Executive Director of Security Council Report.

Early life

Martin was educated at Brentwood School in Brentwood, Essex and graduated from Emmanuel College, Cambridge with first class honours in history and economics. Afterwards, he was a graduate student in development economics at Harvard University for a year.

From 1969 to 1972, Martin worked for the Ford Foundation in India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. In 1971 while in Dhaka, East Pakistan, he witnessed the beginning of Bangladesh's War of Independence.

After returning to the United Kingdom, Martin worked with the Redbridge Community Relations Council in London then served five years as the General Secretary of the Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrants followed by three years as the General Secretary of the Fabian Society.

Ian Martin (rugby league)

Ian Martin (born 1951) was an Australian rugby league player from the 1970s, and was a multi premiership winning player with the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles.

Ian Martin was graded as a 16-year-old with Manly in 1967. He played nine seasons of first grade football with Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles between 1969-1974 and 1976-1978. Ian Martin holds the rare distinction of playing in six grand finals with Manly, winning four of them. His first was in the side that lost the 1970 Grand Final to Souths. He then starred in the winning Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles teams of 1972, 1973, 1976 and the 1978 draw and replay. He started his career as a brilliant five-eighth, and finished his career as a lock-forward. Ian Martin played 155 first grade games, and scored 34 tries during his career. His only representative appearances were for New South Wales in 1972, and after a short stint as the captain-coach of Sawtell, New South Wales in 1975, he represented N.S.W. Country Firsts that year. Martin retired at the conclusion of the 1978 NSWRFL season.
