The Bank of England, formally the Governor and Company of the Bank of England, is the central bank of the United Kingdom and the model on which most modern central banks have been based. Established in 1694, it is the second oldest central bank in the world, after the Sveriges Riksbank, and the world's 8th oldest bank. It was established to act as the English Government's banker and is still the banker for the Government of the United Kingdom. The Bank was privately owned by stockholders from its foundation in 1694 until nationalised in 1946.
In 1998, it became an independent public organisation, wholly owned by the Treasury Solicitor on behalf of the government, with independence in setting monetary policy.
The Bank is one of eight banks authorised to issue banknotes in the United Kingdom, but has a monopoly on the issue of banknotes in England and Wales and regulates the issue of banknotes by commercial banks in Scotland and Northern Ireland.
The Bank's Monetary Policy Committee has devolved responsibility for managing monetary policy. The Treasury has reserve powers to give orders to the committee "if they are required in the public interest and by extreme economic circumstances" but such orders must be endorsed by Parliament within 28 days. The Bank's Financial Policy Committee held its first meeting in June 2011 as a macro prudential regulator to oversee regulation of the UK's financial sector.
England i/ˈɪŋɡlənd/ is a country that is part of the United Kingdom. It shares land borders with Scotland to the north and Wales to the west. The Irish Sea lies northwest of England and the Celtic Sea lies to the southwest. England is separated from continental Europe by the North Sea to the east and the English Channel to the south. The country covers much of the central and southern part of the island of Great Britain, which lies in the North Atlantic; and includes over 100 smaller islands such as the Isles of Scilly, and the Isle of Wight.
The area now called England was first inhabited by modern humans during the Upper Palaeolithic period, but takes its name from the Angles, one of the Germanic tribes who settled during the 5th and 6th centuries. England became a unified state in the 10th century, and since the Age of Discovery, which began during the 15th century, has had a significant cultural and legal impact on the wider world. The English language, the Anglican Church, and English law – the basis for the common law legal systems of many other countries around the world – developed in England, and the country's parliamentary system of government has been widely adopted by other nations. The Industrial Revolution began in 18th-century England, transforming its society into the world's first industrialised nation.
A bank is a financial institution that creates credit by lending money to a borrower, thereby creating a corresponding deposit on the bank's balance sheet. Lending activities can be performed either directly or indirectly through capital markets. Due to their importance in the financial system and influence on national economies, banks are highly regulated in most countries. Most nations have institutionalized a system known as fractional reserve banking under which banks hold liquid assets equal to only a portion of their current liabilities. In addition to other regulations intended to ensure liquidity, banks are generally subject to minimum capital requirements based on an international set of capital standards, known as the Basel Accords.
Banking in its modern sense evolved in the 14th century in the rich cities of Renaissance Italy but in many ways was a continuation of ideas and concepts of credit and lending that had their roots in the ancient world. In the history of banking, a number of banking dynasties — notably, the Medicis, the Fuggers, the Welsers, the Berenbergs and the Rothschilds — have played a central role over many centuries. The oldest existing retail bank is Monte dei Paschi di Siena, while the oldest existing merchant bank is Berenberg Bank.
A bank is a financial institution and a financial intermediary that accepts deposits and channels those deposits into lending activities.

Mark Joseph Carney, OC (born March 16, 1965) is a Canadian economist who currently serves as Governor of the Bank of England and Chairman of the G20's Financial Stability Board.

Keeping on an even keel: the role of the Bank of England is a short film that uses nautical metaphors and animation to explain the Bank's roles and responsibilities in an accessible, imaginative and entertaining way. The film is divided into seven short modules, which provide a simple guide to the Bank's monetary policy and financial stability roles. They explain why low inflation and a safe and stable financial system matter to the UK economy and how the Bank contributes to achieving them.

UK interest rates raised for first time in a decade. Mark Carney says the Bank can "help make Brexit a success" by targeting inflation at 2% and ensuring the stability of the banking system
Stung again folks, if we coined our own money free of charge instead of borrowing it from Private Bankers like the Rothschilds who own the Bank of England, there would be no Govt Borrowing, no Govt Debt ( currently well over £1 Trillion ) and hence absolutely no need for income tax to pay these totally uneccesary loans back. Those 'clashes' at the despatch box, just like Parliament itself are a charade, designed to give us the illusion of choice,no matter who we vote for, the Bankers own the leadership of all the main political parties.
Bank of England Governor Mark Carney has told Andrew Marr that the Bank's intervention in the EU debate was "carefully considered" and "only reflect" the Bank's remits, such as to meet the UK inflation target. "We are absolutely independent," Mr Carney insisted. He said there are "risks around" choosing to leave the EU but adds that there are also risks connected to the government's policy to Remain. Let's talk money in today's episode! In particular exchanging currencies and withdrawing cash abroad without the massive fees! It is a good idea to exchange a small amount of cash before you leave so you have some funds for taxi’s or a cheeky coffee at the airport. But don’t take too much cash, only enough to cover your first couple of days. Don’t carry anymore than you are willing to lose! Using ATM machines abroad can vary. Some countries will have next to zero ATM machines which will accept foreign cards, like Japan, which is why it’s good to have cash on you till you find somewhere to withdraw. Taking a travel card is a good idea which is where you pre-load money onto the card and spend it in different locations across the world. Some Travel Cards may freeze the exchange rate or hav...

Bank of England to let EU banks stay and play in City under EU rules. What’s this, an outbreak of Brexit common sense? The Bank of England has announced consultations on allowing European banks and insurers in the City to carry on as normal after the UK's departure, regardless of the outcome of the forthcoming trade talks between the two sides. It’s a unilateral gesture, with Cabinet support, that will potentially save them millions of pounds because they won’t be required to set up new UK regulated subsidiaries in this country to conduct wholesale financial business. So, quite the early Christmas present. The offer apparently holds good even if the UK crashes out, and that is still a distinct possibility given how much influence low rent Tory Brextremists, including several minister...
European banks will be able to operate as normal in the UK after Brexit under new plans drawn up by the Bank of England. Providers of wholesale finance - services provided to institutions and large businesses that generate hundreds of billions of pounds for the economy - will be able to continue to operate as they do under existing rules, according to BBC News.
Bank of England will allow EU banks to operate as normal after Brexit. The Bank of England will allow European banks to continue selling their services in the UK without having to create expensive subsidiaries after Brexit, even if no divorce deal is struck between London and Brussels, the BBC reported. The decision, due to be made public by the BoE at 1.00pm on Wednesday, would mean European banks offering wholesale services would not face new hurdles to operating in London, which vies with New York for the title of the world’s financial capital. The BoE did not immediately respond to repeated requests for comment out of business hours. The BBC quoted unidentified government and industry sources as saying they supported the decision.

On Thursday, world managed to make modest gains as cautious comments on inflation from the US Federal Reserve which caused investors to pause on a day full of decisions from central banks in Europe. Both the European Central Bank and the Bank of England left interest rates unchanged, with traders focused on the ECB's press conference later today for hints on the bank's policy outlook. While the Bank of England, just one month after raising interest rates for the first time in over a decade, helped the pound trim some of its earlier gains. As forecast, the Federal Reserve raised rates on Wednesday and held to a projection for three more hikes next year. http://feeds.reuters.com/~r/reuters/topNews/~3/40W-dVwEm3c/global-stocks-edge-up-amid-central-bank-bonanza-idUSKBN1E803L http://www.wochit....
