Our Projects

The basic modality of UNDP’s assistance to Belarus is the project. The project is a sequence of activities to achieve a set of immediate objectives formulated to contribute to the achievement of a broader national development objective.

Poverty Reduction

  • The project is designed to assist the Government of Belarus in preparing the next National Human Development Report, which will be devoted to exploring the sources of regional competitiveness from the human development perspective.

  • The goal of the project is to strengthen the role of the private sector in the economies of Brest and Hrodna Regions and in the thriving tourism sector of Belarus.

  • The main goal of the project is to reduce prevalence of tuberculosis in Belarus by means of scaling up measures to combat MDR-TB as well as reduce TB incidence rate and associated mortality rates.

  • Support to Local Development in the Republic of Belarus

    This Project is aimed at assisting government authorities and organizations with improvement of good governance standards through a participatory approach and strengthened dialogue between authorities, businesses, non-for-profit organizations and citizens.

  • The project "Assisting the Government of the Republic of Belarus in Accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO) through Strengthening National Institutional Capacity and Expertise (Phase 4)" is aimed at preparing analytical reviews concerning compliance of the Belarusian legislation with the norms of the World Trade Organization basic agreements and prospects of its improvement, training of national experts in the area of Belarus’ integration into the world trade system, raising public awareness about benefits and impact of WTO accession.

  • The project facilitates collaboration between business and the state in the area of taxation by helping to establish institutionalised tax advisory services as a part of the standard consultancy support package offered to firms and individuals. Project outcomes will include development of a legal framework, guidelines and standards for the training and certification of tax advisors. The potential for outsourcing tax advisory services will be tested in a number of pilot enterprises

  • Promotion of employment and self-employment of the population in small and medium-sized towns in the Republic of Belarus

    The main objective of the project: promotion of effective employment and self-employment of the population in small and medium-sized towns of Belarus. The project aims to support the employment and self-employment of the population through the development of small and medium enterprises (SME), applying the socially responsible approach, and also through strengthening the integration and investment potential of small and medium-sized towns. The support of SME will be focused on three major sectors: i) transport and communication; ii) manufacturing; iii) financial services and business support services, as well as other sectors of economy.

HIV and Development

  • COMBATING HIV AND TB (2004-2015)

    The projects focused on prevention services for groups exposed to high HIV and STI risk; diagnostics, treatment, care and support for people living with HIV and suffering from tuberculosis; improvement and introduction of national diagnostics and treatment standards; development of the national system of surveillance, training of specialists for the prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis.

Environment and Energy

  • Improving Energy Efficiency in Residential Buildings

    The objective of the project is to reduce the energy consumption in housing and related GHG emissions with the focus on new residential buildings by introducing new energy efficiency performance based building design and construction standards.

  • The project aims to speed up the phase out of facilitate phasing out ozone depleting substances, particularly hydrochlorofluorocarbons and their substitution with modern alternative substances in accordance with the respective Belarus’ obligations under the Montreal Protocol.

  • Developing an Integrated Approach to a Stepped-Up Energy Saving Programme

    The objective of the project is to enhance efficient use of energy resources at the local level in Belarus through application of energy-saving technologies and measures in educational buildings.

  • Green Economy

  • Landscape approach to management of peatlands aiming at multiple ecological benefits

    The project sets out an integrated approach to decision-making on peatlands use that takes into account ecological and economic criteria, as well as considers carbon benefits that may be derived from participation in the voluntary and compliance markets, in addition to biodiversity, land degradation and forest management advantages.

  • Supporting Green Urban Development in Small and Medium-Sized Cities in Belarus  (Green Cities)

    The objective of the Project is the growth of development of green urban development plans and pilot green urban development initiatives related to energy efficiency and sustainable transport in small and medium cities in Belarus.
