The email inbox of an animal rights campaign does attract really cranky, bizarre stuff. Most of it is harmless. But today i came across the worst one ever.

The worst bit isn't that I saw it, or that any of the hundreds of people on this wankstain's list who are sensible and horrified by such things saw it. The worst bit is that some people - like the paranoid guy who spouted anti-semitic crap at an animal rights meeting about a year ago and put me (and possibly other people) off going to the meetings for ages and who was for months the *one* person i outright refused to work with on Veggies events - see this shit and believe it. Some of the people on the list will have paranoid tendencies, or be young and impressionable, or any number of other reasons why they might take this crap seriously. And this is why i bother to take this crap seriously and bother to argue with it.

One can only hope the girl in question grows up to mate with the rebellious offspring of a Nation of Islam member and they go and raise their own children in a kibbutz.
At any rate, whatever i think of the judicial and penal systems in general, i can't help being happy that this scumbag is finally going to get something of what he deserves. I can't help wishing that he'd been arrested somewhere where he'd get slightly more of what he deserved. You can probably think of as many ideas as i can on that score.
Like DK, however, i'm disappointed to see that the press are taking the 'persecuted for being controversial' line. Oh please. I fully intend to be controversial during my forthcoming career. In my field it is practically compulsory to be so. But there is a difference between expressing an unpopular sentiment (yes, even 'smash the state') and covering up for genocide. So please don't tell me to stick up for this fucker in the name of free speech or anything like it, because your plea will fall on deaf ears. (By the way, i'm glad his opinions are controversial. I never want to live in a culture where they are anything but. Just try to understand that controversy in itself is not the main reason why Irving is getting the shit he is.)
