Elvis never died, they just relocated him far away from the world so he could deal with his demons. While away, he discovered Sabbath & listened to a lot of those dirty, dirty blues. He recently re-emerged with a fond love for the heavier side of music. He joined forces with some incredible musicians, each bringing many other influences with them, & this is what they created together. What do I love most about Kook? You can hear their influences, but they don't try to mimic them-unique & heavy! These guys are super fun. A little kooky, super groovy and the Danzig influence throttles you with volumetric proportions of avant-garde stoner riffs. You should take that name for everything it implies. Kook is a wild, whimsical mix of freewheeling riffs, unhinged vocals, and sweet, sweet bluesy doom.
Album opener “Play Dead” begins with guitarist Karl Larson playing a bluesy, fuzzy riff before launching into a psychedelic stomp through the tale of a love that is apparently only “mostly dead.” “Not Killing Me” begins with Mike Donofrio beating out a mid-tempo drum riff launching into a moody metal tune with a maddening repeating riff from Larson akin to a chainsaw connected to a wah-wah pedal doubled by bassist Jeff Wilson with Troy Aschenbrenner’s vocals ranging from almost spoken verses to full voice screeching choruses before boiling down to the fuzz-toned bass guitar buzzing into a psychedelic feedback loop, leading to a tripped out equally psychedelic guitar solo. “Ta-Da/Eye of Gold” begins with a strange voice predicting the Earth’s doom leading into Larson’s wah-infused guitar intro before the band breaks into a galloping tempo as the Earth is burned to ash by the Eye of Gold.
“Crawl” opens with a vibrato drenched guitar as the band starts into a mid-tempo melancholic verse then ramps up to heavier choruses, featuring Aschenbrenner’s most soulful vocal performance on the album. It tells the sad tale of a vampire on the hunt…call it Kook’s version of a ballad. “Demonize” begins with another maddeningly infectious riff doubled by the bass before breaking down to drums and Wilson’s walking bass line while Aschenbrenner croons while channeling his inner zombie Elvis as the demon’s eye awakes. “Why” closes the album beginning in a psychedelic wave of warbling vibratoed-out guitar before launching into a hectic stomping tempo plodding forward with reckless abandon as Kook asks “why” the Heaven’s Gate cultists decided to “shed their earthly containers” in a mass-suicide in the ‘90’s. What motivated them, was it aliens, misguided hope or just plain insanity?
So here I sit, pondering these six tracks… “Who does Kook sound like” you might ask? That is a question that is hard to answer, Kook ultimately, sound like Kook, and that is a rare thing these days for a band to have so many familiar qualities yet sound completely different from everything else out there. Maybe it’s a conspiracy, maybe it’s a cult movement, maybe they’ve come to steal your mind!!! No, I’m sure it’s harmless. Why don’t you just sit down there and put these headphones on and stare into this eye of gold and let go of your thoughts for awhile? I promise, in a few minutes you’ll feel right as the rain…

A "kook" is a surfer who puts themselves and others in danger by their actions in the water. Learn the rules of the ocean, and avoid being called this dreaded four-letter word.
Step 1: Wear a leash
Always wear a leash when you're surfing around other people, so you're attached to your board at all times. Losing your board when you wipe out can put everyone around you in danger.
Step 2: Paddle out
Don't paddle straight into a pack of surfers. Try to find a channel that will let you make it to the lineup without getting in anyone else's way.
Tip
Instead of charging through breaking white water, wait for a lull in between sets of waves; then make your way to the lineup of surfers.
Step 3: Look both ways
When paddling to catch a wave, look both ways – like you're crossing the street – to make sure someone isn't already up and riding.
Step 4: Don't drop in
If someone is already up and riding on a wave, hang back. The person riding closest to the tallest part of the wave has priority, and "dropping in" on that person is dangerous – and the easiest way to be labeled a kook.
Step 5: Don't let go of your board
When paddling out, don't rely solely on your leash to stay connected to your board. When you let go of your board with your hands to swim under white water, it becomes a hazard to other surfers behind you.
Tip
Learn how to "duck dive," or duck under breaking waves with your board.
Step 6: Protect your head
If you wipe out, don't panic or thrash in the water. Protect your head by covering your face with your arms, and cupping your head with your hands. Stay underwater for a few seconds until you regain your balance, and don't uncover your head until you're standing up.
Step 7: Respect the locals
Give respect to gain respect. Every beach has locals who have been surfing there a lot longer than you have. Letting them have their pick of waves will ensure that you don't get in their way – and you don't make any enemies.

In 2009, a Brazilian surfer broke his own world record for the longest wave ever surfed by riding a tidal bore on the Araguari River for 36 minutes over seven and a third miles.

The Kooks
The Kooks are a British rock band formed in Brighton, East Sussex, in 2004. The band currently consists of Luke Pritchard (vocals/guitar), Hugh Harris (lead guitar/synth), Alexis Nunez (drums), and Peter Denton (bass guitar). The original bassist was Max Rafferty. The lineup of the band remained constant until the departure of Rafferty in 2008. Dan Logan served as a temporary replacement, until Peter Denton joined the band permanently in October 2008. Early in 2010, Pritchard announced the departure of drummer Paul Garred, due to a nerve problem in his arm. Late in the year, Garred rejoined for studio sessions, however Chris Prendergast played drums when the band played live. In 2012, the band was accompanied on drums by Alexis Nunez (from Golden Silvers), who eventually joined the band full-time.
A self-described "pop" band, their music is primarily influenced by the 1960s British Invasion movement and post-punk revival of the new millennium. With songs described as "catchy as hell", The Kooks have experimented in several genres including rock, Britpop, pop, reggae, ska, and more recently, funk and hip-hop, being described once as a "more energetic Thrills or a looser Sam Roberts Band, maybe even a less severe Arctic Monkeys at times".

Plot: This story is based where the skateboard culture is the most foreign, the Midwest. Derrick Cabrera, like all skaters, has a dream of being sponsored and one day going pro. He is an up and coming skater with all the talent but has the world against him. Parents, friends and schoolmates can't understand how Derrick has so much passion for something that has no future in their eyes. His crew of friends that are skaters is the only place he is truly accepted. But, as he gets better and better, the skater he looked up to the most becomes his worst enemy. In the sport of skateboarding a single trick that has never been done or conceived can bring you stardom in an instant. Derrick has that trick, if only he can make it. As he attempts to make this trick he is faced with skateproofing, a jealous friend and cops who have it in for him. Derrick finally gets arrested for skating on private property. After that his parents lay down the law and try to force him to quit skateboarding. Adding insult to injury, his girlfriend forces an ultimatum on him as well: "The skateboard or life with her." At that point, Derrick gives up everything and runs away with his friends to the Tampa Am contest in Florida. This is a weekend that can turn an unknown skateboarder into a future star. He sees it as his only shot to make it in skateboarding. Derrick's rivalry comes to a head in Florida when his crew of friends abandons him because of his jealous mentor. A top amateur's sister rescues Derrick by giving him a place to stay and convincing him to believe in himself. With all the world of skateboarding watching, Derrick finally makes the trick that shocks the entire skate world and instantly thrusts him into the spotlight. His dream of being sponsored has come true.

He joined forces with some incredible musicians, each bringing many other influences with them, & this is what they created together. What do I love most about Kook? You can hear their influences, but they don't try to mimic them-unique & heavy! These guys are super fun. A little kooky, super groovy and the Danzig influence throttles you with volumetric proportions of avant-garde stoner riffs. You should take that name for everything it implies. Kook is a wild, whimsical mix of freewheeling riffs, unhinged vocals, and sweet, sweet bluesy doom.
Album opener “Play Dead” begins with guitarist Karl Larson playing a bluesy, fuzzy riff before launching into a psychedelic stomp through the tale of a love that is apparently only “mostly dead.” “Not Killing Me” begins with Mike Donofrio beating out a mid-tempo drum riff launching into a moody metal tune with a maddening repeating riff from Larson akin to a chainsaw connected to a wah-wah pedal doubled by bassist Jeff Wilson with Troy Aschenbrenner’s vocals ranging from almost spoken verses to full voice screeching choruses before boiling down to the fuzz-toned bass guitar buzzing into a psychedelic feedback loop, leading to a tripped out equally psychedelic guitar solo. “Ta-Da/Eye of Gold” begins with a strange voice predicting the Earth’s doom leading into Larson’s wah-infused guitar intro before the band breaks into a galloping tempo as the Earth is burned to ash by the Eye of Gold.
“Crawl” opens with a vibrato drenched guitar as the band starts into a mid-tempo melancholic verse then ramps up to heavier choruses, featuring Aschenbrenner’s most soulful vocal performance on the album. It tells the sad tale of a vampire on the hunt…call it Kook’s version of a ballad. “Demonize” begins with another maddeningly infectious riff doubled by the bass before breaking down to drums and Wilson’s walking bass line while Aschenbrenner croons while channeling his inner zombie Elvis as the demon’s eye awakes. “Why” closes the album beginning in a psychedelic wave of warbling vibratoed-out guitar before launching into a hectic stomping tempo plodding forward with reckless abandon as Kook asks “why” the Heaven’s Gate cultists decided to “shed their earthly containers” in a mass-suicide in the ‘90’s. What motivated them, was it aliens, misguided hope or just plain insanity?
So here I sit, pondering these six tracks… “Who does Kook sound like” you might ask? That is a question that is hard to answer, Kook ultimately, sound like Kook, and that is a rare thing these days for a band to have so many familiar qualities yet sound completely different from everything else out there. Maybe it’s a conspiracy, maybe it’s a cult movement, maybe they’ve come to steal your mind!!! No, I’m sure it’s harmless. Why don’t you just sit down there and put these headphones on and stare into this eye of gold and let go of your thoughts for awhile? I promise, in a few minutes you’ll feel right as the rain…

Step 1: Wear a leash
Always wear a leash when you're surfing around other people, so you're attached to your board at all times. Losing your board when you wipe out can put everyone around you in danger.
Step 2: Paddle out
Don't paddle straight into a pack of surfers. Try to find a channel that will let you make it to the lineup without getting in anyone else's way.
Tip
Instead of charging through breaking white water, wait for a lull in between sets of waves; then make your way to the lineup of surfers.
Step 3: Look both ways
When paddling to catch a wave, look both ways – like you're crossing the street – to make sure someone isn't already up and riding.
Step 4: Don't drop in
If someone is already up and riding on a wave, hang back. The person riding closest to the tallest part of the wave has priority, and "dropping in" on that person is dangerous – and the easiest way to be labeled a kook.
Step 5: Don't let go of your board
When paddling out, don't rely solely on your leash to stay connected to your board. When you let go of your board with your hands to swim under white water, it becomes a hazard to other surfers behind you.
Tip
Learn how to "duck dive," or duck under breaking waves with your board.
Step 6: Protect your head
If you wipe out, don't panic or thrash in the water. Protect your head by covering your face with your arms, and cupping your head with your hands. Stay underwater for a few seconds until you regain your balance, and don't uncover your head until you're standing up.
Step 7: Respect the locals
Give respect to gain respect. Every beach has locals who have been surfing there a lot longer than you have. Letting them have their pick of waves will ensure that you don't get in their way – and you don't make any enemies.

In 2009, a Brazilian surfer broke his own world record for the longest wave ever surfed by riding a tidal bore on the Araguari River for 36 minutes over seven and a third miles.

Instead of charging through breaking white water, wait for a lull in between sets of waves; then make your way to the lineup of surfers.
Step 3: Look both ways
When paddling to catch a wave, look both ways – like you're crossing the street – to make sure someone isn't already up and riding.
Step 4: Don't drop in
If someone is already up and riding on a wave, hang back. The person riding closest to the tallest part of the wave has priority, and "dropping in" on that person is dangerous – and the easiest way to be labeled a kook.
Step 5: Don't let go of your board
When paddling out, don't rely solely on your leash to stay connected to your board. When you let go of your board with your hands to swim under white water, it becomes a hazard to other surfers behind you.
Tip
Learn how to "duck dive," or duck under breaking waves with your board.
Step 6: Protect your head
If you wipe out, don't panic or thrash in the water. Protect your head by covering your face with your arms, and cupping your head with your hands. Stay underwater for a few seconds until you regain your balance, and don't uncover your head until you're standing up.
Step 7: Respect the locals
Give respect to gain respect. Every beach has locals who have been surfing there a lot longer than you have. Letting them have their pick of waves will ensure that you don't get in their way – and you don't make any enemies.

In 2009, a Brazilian surfer broke his own world record for the longest wave ever surfed by riding a tidal bore on the Araguari River for 36 minutes over seven and a third miles.
