Raymond John Barry (professionally known as Raymond J. Barry) (born March 14, 1939) is an American film, television, and stage actor.
Raymond John Barry was born in Hempstead, New York (on Long Island). He has been married to writer Robyn Mundell for the past twenty years. Together they have four children, Oona, Raymond, Liam and Manon.
His father, Raymond Barry, worked in sales. His mother, Barbara Constance Barry (née Duffy), was also an actor, known professionally as B. Constance Barry (April 29, 1913 – October 22, 2006). Her breakthrough and final role, in 2001 (when she was 88), after a career of small or cameo appearances in films, was in the film L.I.E., as Anne Harrigan, the mother of a Long Island pedophile (played by Scottish actor Brian Cox). Barry's mother was of Canadian, Irish, and Swedish descent, and Barry's paternal grandparents were from Ireland.
A three-letter athlete at Lynbrook High School on Long Island, Barry graduated from Brown University in 1962. While there, he earned his degree in Philosophy. Afterwards, he completed the Yale Drama School.
Jeff Barry (born Joel Adelberg, April 3, 1938, Brooklyn, New York) is an American pop music songwriter, singer, and record producer. Among the most successful songs that he has co-written in his career are "Da Doo Ron Ron", "Then He Kissed Me", "Be My Baby", "Chapel of Love", and "River Deep - Mountain High" (all written with his then-wife Ellie Greenwich and Phil Spector); "Leader of the Pack" (written with Greenwich and Shadow Morton); and "Sugar, Sugar" (written with Andy Kim).
Barry was born in Brooklyn to a Jewish family. His parents divorced when he was seven, and his mother moved him and his sister to Plainfield, New Jersey, where they resided for several years before returning to New York.
After graduating from Erasmus Hall High School, Barry served in the Army, then returned to New York where he attended City College. Although he leaned toward a degree in engineering, his main aspiration was to become a singer. He left college in the late '50s to sign with RCA Records, courtesy of music publisher Arnold Shaw. Around this time, he adopted a new name more in tune with show business, borrowing "Jeff" from actor Jeff Chandler and "Barry" from family friends.
Raymond is a male given name. It was borrowed into English from French (older French spellings were Reimund and Raimund, whereas the modern English and French spellings are identical). It originated as the Germanic Raginmund or Reginmund. "Ragin" (Old German) and "regin" (Gothic) meant "counsel." The Old High German "mund" originally meant "hand," but came to mean "protection." This etymology suggests that the name originated in the Early Middle Ages, possibly from Latin; meaning "King of the World".
Despite the German and French origins of the English name, some of its early uses in English documents appear in Latinized form. As a surname, its first recorded appearance in Britain appeared in 1086, during the reign of William the Conqueror, in the Domesday Book, with a reference to Giraldus Reimundus.
The most commonly used names for baby boys based on "ragin" in 2009 were, in descending order, Raymond, Ramiro, Rayner, Rein, Reingard, Reynard, and Reynold. Its many other variants include Raiment, Raimo, Raimond, Raimondi, Raimondo, Raimund, Raimundo, Ramon, Ramón, Ramond, Ramondelli, Ramondenc, Ramondi, Ramondini, Ramondino, Ramondo, Ramondou, Ramonenc, Ramonic, Ramundi, Rayment, Raymonenc, Raymonencq, Raymont, Raymund, Redmond, Redmonds, Reim, Reimund, Reinmund, Rémon, Rémond, Remondeau, Remondon, Rémont, Reymond, Rimondi, and Rimondini.
Barry may refer to:
Michael Manning Weatherly, Jr., (born July 8, 1968) is an American actor, writer, singer and director best known for playing Anthony "Tony" DiNozzo on the television series NCIS since 2003.
Weatherly was born in New York City and reared in Fairfield, Connecticut, by parents Patricia O'Hara (née Hetherington) and Michael Manning Weatherly, Sr. Weatherly is of partly Irish descent.
Weatherly attended Fairfield Country Day School and graduated from Brooks School in North Andover, Massachusetts. Weatherly attended Boston College, Menlo College and American University, but he left college to pursue acting.
Weatherly plays several instruments, including piano and guitar. He has contributed two songs to the NCIS soundtracks, Bitter and Blue and Under the Sun, and played in a band while pursuing his early career in New York City. Another early project was a video shot for a Karaoke CD: A Taste Of Honey's version of "Sukiyaki".
Weatherly began his acting career with a minor television role on The Cosby Show as Theo Huxtable's roommate. He was later cast in the role of Cooper Alden on Loving and later, The City. He appeared in the role from 1992 until 1996.
