Die neue „Durch die Nacht mit … “-Folge ist eine Reise zu den Anfängen des Zirkus, als das Spektakel vor allem aus Kuriositäten bestand. Der Amerikaner Jim Rose hat in den 90ern mit seinem „Jim Rose Circus“ die klassische Freakshow wiederbelebt und zu einem Millionenunternehmen gemacht. Er brachte es sogar zu Gastauftritten bei den „Simpsons“ und „Akte X“. In seiner französischen Wahlheimat Nantes begegnet er seinem Lieblingskünstler, dem legendären Maler und Provokateur Joe Coleman. Coleman war schon als Kind von der dunklen Seite der Zirkuswelt fasziniert. Seine Bilder zeigen das Abseitige der amerikanischen Kultur, Stars wie Johnny Depp zählen zu seinen Verehrern. Nantes erweist sich als perfekter Treffpunkt für die zwei Fans des Phantastischen. Sie bestaunen den mechanischen Riesenelefanten auf der „Maschineninsel“, begegnen dem Hologramm-Künstler Pierrick Sorin und besuchen das Jules-Verne-Museum. Gemeinsam geht es zur Zirkusschule „Chapidock“, wo Rose an alte Zeiten als Jongleur anzuknüpfen versucht und Coleman mit einer Feuerkünstlerin Flammen in den Nachthimmel schießt. Die Zirkuskommune „Quai des Chaps“ inspiriert Jim Rose zu einigem Unsinn – mit schmerzhaftem Ausgang für seine Opfer. Ronald Dean Coleman, conocido como Ronnie Coleman The King ( Monroe, Luisiana, Estados Unidos; 13 de mayo de 1964), fisicoculturista estadounidense, ganador de ocho títulos del Mister Olympia; está considerado uno de los mejores culturistas de la historia de este deporte.
Coleman se graduó en la Universidad Grambling State en 1989 en contabilidad, obteniendo la calificación Cum laude. Entre 1998 y 2005 fue campeón de todas las ediciones del evento Mr. Olympia.
En el Mr. Olympia de 2006, buscando romper el récord de ocho títulos consecutivos que comparte con Lee Haney, quedó en segundo lugar, superado por Jay Cutler en la edición del Mr. Olympia más polémica de la historia. En 2007 compite por última vez en un Mr. Olympia, obteniendo un cuarto puesto, aunque seguiría participando en otros eventos de culturismo.

Ronnie Coleman
Ronnie Dean Coleman (born May 13, 1964) is a retired American professional bodybuilder and the winner of the Mr. Olympia bodybuilding title 8 years in a row and is regarded as one of the greatest bodybuilders of all time. Alongside his eight Mr. Olympia wins as a professional bodybuilder, he holds the record for most wins as an IFBB professional with 26, breaking the record of 22 previously (held by Vince Taylor).
Biography
Coleman was born in Bastrop, Louisiana. He graduated cum laude from Grambling State University (GSU) in 1984 with a BSc in accounting. While at university, he played football as a middle linebacker with the GSU Tigers under coach Eddie Robinson. After graduation, he became a police officer in Arlington, Texas, where he served as an officer from 1989 to 2000 and a reserve officer until 2003.
Coleman's fellow officer Gustavo Arlotta suggested he attend the Metroflex gym, owned by amateur bodybuilder Brian Dobson. Dobson offered Coleman a free lifetime membership if he allowed Dobson to train him for the upcoming Mr. Texas bodybuilding competition that year. After training for Mr. Texas, Coleman won first place in both the heavyweight and overall categories. He also defeated Dobson himself. Coleman won his first competition as a professional, the Canada Pro Cup, in 1995. The following year, he won the contest again, followed by a first place win in the 1997 Russian Grand Prix.

Tom Waits
Thomas Alan Waits (born December 7, 1949) is an American singer-songwriter, composer, and actor. Waits has a distinctive voice, described by critic Daniel Durchholz as sounding like "it was soaked in a vat of bourbon, left hanging in the smokehouse for a few months, and then taken outside and run over with a car." With this trademark growl, his incorporation of pre-rock music styles such as blues, jazz, and vaudeville, and experimental tendencies verging on industrial music, Waits has built up a distinctive musical persona. He has worked as a composer for movies and musicals and has acted in supporting roles in films, including Paradise Alley and Bram Stoker's Dracula. He also starred in Jim Jarmusch's 1986 film Down by Law. He was nominated for an Academy Award for his soundtrack work on One from the Heart.
Waits' lyrics frequently present atmospheric portraits of grotesque, often seedy characters and places—although he has also shown a penchant for more conventional ballads. He has a cult following and has influenced subsequent songwriters despite having little radio or music video support. His songs are best-known through cover versions by more commercial artists: "Jersey Girl", performed by Bruce Springsteen, "Ol' '55", by the Eagles, and "Downtown Train", by Rod Stewart. Although Waits' albums have met with mixed commercial success in his native United States, they have occasionally achieved gold album sales status in other countries. He has been nominated for a number of major music awards and has won Grammy Awards for two albums, Bone Machine and Mule Variations. In 2011, Waits was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He is also included among the 2010 list of Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Singers. and the 2015 list of Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Songwriters of All Time.

These are just a few of the inadequate adjectives that fail to describe Manuel DeLanda’s fantastically disarming and deeply funny films. Known today as an author, teacher, and philosopher, DeLanda’s iconic celluloid works remain among the most innovative, abrasive, and hypnotic films produced in the 70s and early 80s. Raised in Mexico and transplanted to NYC, DeLanda, rather amazingly, created most of these films while still an undergraduate at the School of Visual Arts. Radically conceived and frantically edited, DeLanda’s energetic, semiotic cinema earned him instant acclaim in the international experimental film world. Unique among the films of their era (or of any other for that matter), DeLanda’s movies have a highbrow philosophical tinge, lowbrow wit, and punk rock style. “An anarchist who studies analytical philosophy, DeLanda makes aggressive, wild movies that simultaneously leap all over the place and stand absolutely still. His punchy Dada-like stances have a certain built-in versatility insofar as they manage to defy The System while both embodying and benefiting from it. … DeLanda brings a certain Latin camp wit to his European theoretical models, from Wittgenstein to Deleuze and Guattari. A touch of the happy charlatan is similarly brought to his glitter punk credentials that hark back to such diverse Spanish-speaking surrealists as Arrabal, Buñuel, Dali, and Jodorowsky – although, unlike most of his predecessors, DeLanda prefers LSD and computers to the sacraments and anti-Christs of Catholicism in establishing the terms of his shock (and semi-mock) rebellion.” –Jonathan Rosenbaum

Gemeinsam geht es zur Zirkusschule „Chapidock“, wo Rose an alte Zeiten als Jongleur anzuknüpfen versucht und Coleman mit einer Feuerkünstlerin Flammen in den Nachthimmel schießt. Die Zirkuskommune „Quai des Chaps“ inspiriert Jim Rose zu einigem Unsinn – mit schmerzhaftem Ausgang für seine Opfer. Coleman und Rose: Zwei Männer, die auf ein extremes Leben voller Drogen und Exzesse zurückblicken; der eine ein Freakshow-Ringmaster mit Spaß an Tricks und Betrug, der andere ein Künstler mit Hang zum rücksichtslosen Selbstversuch. Die Zuneigung zwischen diesen beiden außerordentlichen Geschichtenerzählern könnte nicht größer sein. Und so platzt beim Essen die wohl ultimative Liebeserklärung aus Jim Rose heraus: „Joe, Du bist echt verrückt.“ (Text: arte)

Ronald Dean Coleman, conocido como Ronnie Coleman The King ( Monroe, Luisiana, Estados Unidos; 13 de mayo de 1964), fisicoculturista estadounidense, ganador de ocho títulos del Mister Olympia; está considerado uno de los mejores culturistas de la historia de este deporte.
Coleman se graduó en la Universidad Grambling State en 1989 en contabilidad, obteniendo la calificación Cum laude. Entre 1998 y 2005 fue campeón de todas las ediciones del evento Mr. Olympia.

A noir mostly set in a bathroom stall and stairwell. A private dick trapped in a tight spot. A narrator searching for a way out of the story. Toilet humor and pulp fiction captured in colors like you’ve never seen.
Audacious. Outlandish. Subversive. Intense. Insane. These are just a few of the inadequate adjectives that fail to describe Manuel DeLanda’s fantastically disarming and deeply funny films. Known today as an author, teacher, and philosopher, DeLanda’s iconic celluloid works remain among the most innovative, abrasive, and hypnotic films produced in the 70s and early 80s. Raised in Mexico and transplanted to NYC, DeLanda, rather amazingly, created most of these films while still an undergraduate at the School of Visual Arts. Radically conceived and frantically edited, DeLanda’s energetic, semiotic cinema earned him instant acclaim in the international experimental film world. Unique among the films of their era (or of any other for that matter), DeLanda’s movies have a highbrow philosophical tinge, lowbrow wit, and punk rock style.
“An anarchist who studies analytical philosophy, DeLanda makes aggressive, wild movies that simultaneously leap all over the place and stand absolutely still. His punchy Dada-like stances have a certain built-in versatility insofar as they manage to defy The System while both embodying and benefiting from it. … DeLanda brings a certain Latin camp wit to his European theoretical models, from Wittgenstein to Deleuze and Guattari. Alan Yentob travels the world to discover why so-called "Outsider Art" has gone from being one of the most overlooked art-forms of the late 20th century, to one of the most essential of the 21st century.
In this episode from the acclaimed BBC documentary strand "Imagine", Yentob travels from Japan's Miho Mountains to Creative Growth in California, encountering self-taught artists like Shinichi Sawada, Ionel Talzapan, George Widener and William Scott, alongside Joe Coleman, Heinrich Reisenbauer, Dan Miller and Paul Laffoley.
There are contributions from some of the genre's many activists and admirers, including Johann Feilacher (Gugging, Vienna), James Brett (The Museum of Everything, London), curators Massimiliano Gioni (New Museum, NY) and Ralph Rugoff (Hayward Gallery, London) and art critics Roberta Smith (New York Times) and Jerry Saltz (New York Magazine).
They are joined by gallerists Frank Maresca (Ricco Maresca, NY) and Henry Boxer (Henry Boxer Gallery, London) and pioneers John Maizels (Raw Vision, London) and Rebecca Hoffberger (American Visionary Art Museum, Baltimore), who together try to assess the challenges posed by an alternative art historical narrative.

Alan Yentob travels the world to discover why so-called "Outsider Art" has gone from being one of the most overlooked art-forms of the late 20th century, to one of the most essential of the 21st century.
In this episode from the acclaimed BBC documentary strand "Imagine", Yentob travels from Japan's Miho Mountains to Creative Growth in California, encountering self-taught artists like Shinichi Sawada, Ionel Talzapan, George Widener and William Scott, alongside Joe Coleman, Heinrich Reisenbauer, Dan Miller and Paul Laffoley.
There are contributions from some of the genre's many activists and admirers, including Johann Feilacher (Gugging, Vienna), James Brett (The Museum of Everything, London), curators Massimiliano Gioni (New Museum, NY) and Ralph Rugoff (Hayward Gallery, London) and art critics Roberta Smith (New York Times) and Jerry Saltz (New York Magazine).
They are joined by gallerists Frank Maresca (Ricco Maresca, NY) and Henry Boxer (Henry Boxer Gallery, London) and pioneers John Maizels (Raw Vision, London) and Rebecca Hoffberger (American Visionary Art Museum, Baltimore), who together try to assess the challenges posed by an alternative art historical narrative.
