SS-GB

SS-GB is an alternate history novel by Len Deighton, set in a United Kingdom conquered and occupied by Germany during the Second World War. The novel's title refers to the branch of the Nazi SS that controls Britain.

Plot summary

In November 1941, nine months after a German invasion led to the British surrender, Detective Superintendent Douglas Archer, a British homicide detective assigned to Scotland Yard, is called in to investigate a murder of a well-dressed man in an apartment in Shepherd Market. Although the body has two gunshot wounds, Archer is puzzled by the condition of the body, in particular what appears to be a sunburn on the its arm. To his surprise, the case draws the attention of the highest levels of the German authorities, as an SS Standartenführer, Oskar Huth, arrives to supervise the investigation. Archer soon finds himself in the middle of a power struggle between Huth and Gruppenführer Fritz Kellerman, Archer's boss and the head of police forces in Great Britain.

Kate Bosworth

Catherine Ann "Kate" Bosworth (born January 2, 1983) is an American actress and model. She made her film debut in The Horse Whisperer (1998) and appeared in Remember the Titans (2000) before landing a lead role as a teenage surfer in the box-office hit Blue Crush (2002). She also had roles in independent films, playing Dawn Schiller in the true crime film Wonderland (2003), and as Sandra Dee in the Bobby Darin biographical drama Beyond the Sea (2004), which earned her critical acclaim. She also portrayed Lois Lane in Superman Returns (2006), and has had roles in Straw Dogs (2011) and Still Alice (2014).

Early life

Bosworth was born on January 2, 1983, in Los Angeles, California. She is the only child of Patricia (née Potter), a homemaker, and Harold Bosworth, a former executive for Talbots. She was born with heterochromia iridum, and has a hazel right eye and a blue left eye. At the age of six, Bosworth's family relocated from San Francisco to various parts of the country due to her father's job. She was raised mainly on the East Coast, spending the rest of her youth in Massachusetts and Connecticut.

Sam Riley

Samuel Peter W. Riley (born January 8, 1980) is an English actor and singer best known for his performance in the 2007 biographical film Control, about the life of Ian Curtis.

Early life

Riley was born in Menston, West Yorkshire, the son of Amanda, a nursery school teacher, and Andrew Riley, a textile agent. He was educated at Malsis School, Cross Hills, and at Uppingham School. He was turned down by both the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.

Career

Film

His breakthrough performance came when he played the role of Ian Curtis in the film Control, a biopic about the lead singer of the 1970s post-punk band Joy Division. The film received high critical acclaim due in no small part to Riley's performance, which won him a selection of awards including the British Independent Film Award for "Most Promising Newcomer" a BAFTA "Rising Star" nomination; and a Mark Kermode nod for Best Actor 2007.

Prior to his portrayal of Ian Curtis, Riley played the Fall frontman Mark E Smith in the Michael Winterbottom film 24 Hour Party People, which details the Factory Records era and featured Sean Harris as Ian Curtis. Riley's scenes, however, were omitted from the final cut.
