Bolivia (i/bəˈlɪviə/; Spanish: [boˈliβja]; Quechua: Buliwya [bʊlɪwja]; Aymara: Wuliwya [wʊlɪwja]; Guarani: Volívia [ʋoˈliʋja]), officially known as the Plurinational State of Bolivia (Spanish: Estado Plurinacional de Bolivia), is a landlocked country located in western-central South America. It is bordered to the north and east by Brazil, to the southeast by Paraguay, to the south by Argentina, to the southwest by Chile, and to the northwest by Peru. One-third of the country is the Andean mountain range, with its largest city and principal economic centers located in the Altiplano.
Before Spanish colonization, the Andean region of Bolivia was part of the Inca Empire, while the northern and eastern lowlands were inhabited by independent tribes. Spanish conquistadors arriving from Cuzco and Asunción took control of the region in the 16th century. During most of the Spanish colonial period, Bolivia was known as Upper Peru and administered by the Royal Court of Charcas. Spain built its empire in great part upon the silver that was extracted from Bolivia's mines.

They made their way to two upstairs rooms and burst in. Within minutes, three European guests had been shot and killed. When news of the raid broke, the Bolivian authorities said little - except that the dead men had been plotting to kill Bolivia's left-wing president, Evo Morales, and had fiercely resisted arrest. Lithium is the lightest metal on the periodic table. It’s value has been multiplied by 10 in the last two decades alone. And it’s demand doesn’t stop growing. Between 60 and 80% of the world’s known reserves are in an area called the LITHIUM TRIANGLE. This is an area that covers parts of Argentina, Bolivia and Chile. In these countries, lithium is abundant and easy to extract. In other words, this part of the planet might soon become the new Saudi Arabia. Despite these reserves Bolivia is exporting less lithium than the other two countries. So what’s going on in Bolivia? Why is no one exploiting their lithium resources? And why is Chile following suit? Today, we are going to answer all of those questions. Lithium is an opportunity for investment: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJEo8R64a...

Think of Brazil and the Olympics, Football and Carnival come to mind but samba back to the early 2000s and Brazil was the poster child for the emerging markets. Back in the late twentieth century Brazil’s economy had been anything but stable. Plagued by hyperinflation, the government at the time took desperate measures to ensure the currency stabilised. They did this by simply getting rid of it over a number of years and replacing it with one pegged to the value of the dollar. By the turn of the millennium “Plano Real” as it was called, started to pay dividends and after forty years of economic turmoil, inflation finally levelled off and the economy began to thrive. Brazil’s climate makes it an agricultural hotspot with coffee, sugar, soybean, meat and tobacco high on its list of raw expor...

High up in the mountains, three different worlds are united by one little reptile, a lizard. A whole culture is about to be revealed through this tiny little creature. a word from the artist… This collection of music is very special to me because it embodies the sounds of the folklore and spirit of my native country, Bolivia. Each one, in its own way, represents a certain aspect of the varied and widespread culture of the land. Personally, they speak to me because Bolivian traditions were always kept in our home. From traditional music, food and dancing, these customs were at the heart of family life. So, making this CD was a logical step in my musical journey as it is so much a part of me. I hope you enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed discovering and playing this fantastically unique music. http://www.msrcd.com/catalog/cd/MS1546
These are pictures I've collected in the country side of Santa Cruz in Bolivia, while working there. Gladis Moreno was one of the best voices of Bolivia, and a representative artist of great Santa Cruz. Santa Cruz is a beautiful and peaceful place with great food and culture, with it's own music and dances. Welcome to Santa Cruz with its own beautiful landscapes and music!
This week our host Mauricio Izquierdo takes us to Peru, where Chinese culture thrives among indigenous customs. Chinese immigrants have been able to retain many of their ancient traditions while fully integrating themselves into Peruvian culture. Approximately five million people with Chinese last names now live in Peru. Then it’s off to the Andes where we hear the sounds of ancient sikuri music now being kept alive by a group of artists that practice indigenous ways of life. Although the Spanish conquerors tried to wipe out all traces of indigenous music, it is alive and well today. teleSUR http://multimedia.telesurtv.net/v/cultura-latina-463146/

Study estimates that an 80 year old from the Tsimane (or Chimane) group had the same vascular age as an American in their mid-fifties. The Tsimane people - a forager-horticulturalist population of the Bolivian Amazon - have the lowest reported levels of vascular ageing for any population, with coronary atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries) being five times less common than in the US, according to a study published in The Lancet and being presented at the American College of Cardiology conference. The researchers propose that the loss of subsistence diets and lifestyles in contemporary society could be classed as a new risk factor for heart disease. The main risk factors are age, smoking, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, physical inactivity, obesity and diabetes. "Our study ...

Natural Sound Tens of thousands of teachers and health workers went on strike in Bolivia on Wednesday to protest against low pay. The Bolivian Workers' Confederation, which represents most of the country's labour unions, had called on all public sector workers to take part. About 150-thousand staged the walk out, forcing the closure of schools and reducing hospitals to emergency staff only. Strike action paralysed the centre of La Paz for five hours on Wednesday. Running street battles and road blockades around the city were typical of scenes nationwide as 150-thousand Bolivian workers joined in the protest. In response, thousands of police and soldiers were deployed to control the crowds. In the capital, teachers threw rocks and sticks at police in several neighbo...

In 2009-2010, I organized four indigenous community health workshops in Bolivia with the objective of promoting dialogue between biomedical healthcare providers and traditional healers about frequently occurring health problems. The idea was for the two groups to reach consensus about the best ways for traditional healers to deal with these conditions in their communities that do not have immediate access to biomedical healthcare. Why a safe and healthy workplace is important: If a workplace is safe and healthy, everyone can get on with their work effectively and efficiently. In contrast, if a workplace is disorganized and full of hazards, process breakdowns injuries and sickness absences are inevitable. The pain and direct loss of earnings suffered by workers in these circumstances is often matched by reduced productivity at the enterprise. This animation created by the SCORE team in Bolivia illustrates 'SCORE Training Module 5: Safety and Health at Work: A platform for productivity.' This module aims to provide SME participants (both employees and managers) with the knowledge and understanding they need to create and benefit from a safety and health system tailored to the realities in the enterprise.

His experiences and observations led him to conclude that the region's ingrained economic inequalities were an intrinsic result of capitalism. The only remedy being world communist revolution. while living in Mexico City, he met Fidel Castro, joined their 26th of July Movement, and invaded Cuba with the intention of overthrowing Cuban dictator Batista. Following the Cuban invasion, Guevara performed the role in the new dictatorship of reviewing the appeals and firing squads for those convicted as unrepentant capitalist. Bolivia, a landlocked South American country, holds the promise of discovery for adventurous souls. While pretty Sucre, “La Ciudad Blanca,” is Bolivia’s judicial capital, La Paz is its political capital and also its main tourist hub. On the Mirador at Laikacota, you get a feel for how incredibly high up in the Andes this city sits. Deep in the valley below lies the central Plaza Murillo, home to the most precious buildings: the Presidential Palace, National Congress and Metropolitan Cathedral. Most visitors stay near the Plaza San Francisco, because of its proximity to hidden gems, such as the curious Witches’ Market, the Musical Instrument Museum and the Coca Museum. Around La Paz, you can ride down “El Camino de la Muerte," hike through the lunar landscape of Valle de la Luna and great...

The two cities have about 2 million inhabitants. The main city square is called Plaza Murillo with Parliament House, Presidential Palace, and Cathedral. The Calle Linares is famous for its offered llama fetuses, which serve as an offering to Pachamama, mother earth. For this reason, this area is also called "Mercado de las brujas", the Witches' Market. At the lower end of the town is an attraction for the population of La Paz and the tourists. Bolivian President Evo Morales accused the United States of untoward intervention in Venezuela as he gave a speech during an armed forces celebration in Achacachi on Monday. Having witnessed some 25,000 people, including service personnel and members of the indigenous population, Morales spoke to the masses and criticised apparent American self-interest in the ongoing political upheaval in its ally Venezuela. Referring to the US as “the empire”, echoing Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro's dubbing of US President Donald Trump, Morales said America was pursuing a “policy of revenge”. "Venezuela is a strategic link and this link has the largest amount of oil in the geopolitical world and oil energy is what the empire seeks, first to overthrow it, then dominate it and then seize Venezuela...

The Syrian war was an artificial, deliberately planned and meticulously staged conflict from the very beginning, Carla Ortiz, a Bolivian documentary filmmaker told RT. She believes western MSM played a decisive role:repeating a stereotypical narrative while twisting the reality. Ortiz, the director of the “The Voice of Syria” documentary, recently returned from the war-torn country, where she visited regions which suffered most from the conflict. She talked to the Syrian people struggling to save their country while rebuilding their shattered lives. The real situation in Syria she witnessed is very different from the common narrative peddled by the western MSM. The entire idea of the Middle East being a “territory of a constant conflict” plagued by “dictators,” and Westerners being the “...

If mercenaries (in Bolivia) or right wing military coup leaders terrorize social movements or young democracies by violence, what kind of lives do they lead? This in-class project was shot during an LACC class, Cinema 7. This project was completed within two weeks from winning a class pitch contest to editing and soundtrack. This is the "ROUGH CUT" edition.
La Paz is known as the HIGHEST capital in the WORLD, at 12,000 ft above sea level. Quirks mentioned: → Mi Teleférico, the urban transit system of Bolivia. → Bolivian cuisine including api & pastel, pique macho, llama steak, and endless fruit juices! → Witches Market, otherwise known as Mercado de las Brujas. → Moon Valley, otherwise known as Valle de la Luna, is a bizarre lunar landscape created by the erosion of mountains by wind and rain. → Salar de Uyuni is the world's largest salt flat at 10,582 square kilometers. → El Camino de la Muerte, or Death Road, is a dangerous 40-mile ride down dirty & gravel. We had privilege of visiting Lake Titicaca from both the Peru and Bolivia. The question we're often asked is which side is better? The easy answer is that it is really worth visiting both side of lago titicaca. The following is a travel guide for our extended stays on both sides of Lake Titicaca. On the Peruvian side we started our journey off in Puno where we boarded a boat heading out to Uros Island where we met people still living on the floating reed islands. We then went further onward for a home stay. On the Bolivian journey we visited Isla del Sol from Copacabana as a day trip hiking all over the island before heading back to Copacabana to visit markets. Bolivias burning down tonight
Down by the cove its the way you called them over the cliff
Step from the fort we'll be there
Down by the tollway you tried to call me away when I've seen what it means to them
You can say you warned them to stay down tonight
But I can't wait
Are you down for the ride or will you crawl back before they die
Sympathy is tied to the ground
Cause sympathy now is not what they need
Whether rise or fall
Remain
