Department of Energy may refer to:
James Richard "Rick" Perry (born March 4, 1950) is an American politician who served as the 47th Governor of Texas from December 2000 to January 2015. A Republican, he was elected Lieutenant Governor of Texas in 1998 and assumed the governorship in December 2000 when then-governor George W. Bush resigned to become President of the United States. Perry was the longest-serving governor in Texas state history.
Perry was elected to full gubernatorial terms in 2002, 2006 and 2010 and is the fourth Texas governor (after Allan Shivers, Price Daniel and John Connally) to serve three terms. With a tenure in office of 14 years, 30 days, Perry was, at the time he left office, the second longest-serving current U.S. governor (after Terry Branstad of Iowa). Perry served as chairman of the Republican Governors Association in 2008 and again in 2011. In July 2013, Perry announced that he was retiring as governor and would not seek re-election in 2014.
On August 15, 2014, Perry was indicted on two felony charges related to his actions as governor. The charge against Perry of "coercion of a public servant" was dismissed in July 2015 when an appellate court ruled the statute unconstitutional. As of November 2015, Perry still faces one charge of "abuse of official capacity" in relation to his veto of funding for a state district attorney's office.
In physics, energy is a property of objects which can be transferred to other objects or converted into different forms, but cannot be created or destroyed. The "ability of a system to perform work" is a common description, but it is difficult to give one single comprehensive definition of energy because of its many forms. For instance, in SI units, energy is measured in joules, and one joule is defined "mechanically", being the energy transferred to an object by the mechanical work of moving it a distance of 1 metre against a force of 1 newton. However, there are many other definitions of energy, depending on the context, such as thermal energy, radiant energy, electromagnetic, nuclear, etc., where definitions are derived that are the most convenient.
Common energy forms include the kinetic energy of a moving object, the potential energy stored by an object's position in a force field (gravitational, electric or magnetic), the elastic energy stored by stretching solid objects, the chemical energy released when a fuel burns, the radiant energy carried by light, and the thermal energy due to an object's temperature. All of the many forms of energy are convertible to other kinds of energy, and obey the law of conservation of energy which says that energy can be neither created nor be destroyed; however, it can change from one form to another.

http://www.downsizinggovernment.org/energy The Department of Energy oversees nuclear weapons sites and subsidizes conventional and alternative fuels. The department has a history of fiscal and environmental mismanagement. Furthermore, misguided energy regulations have caused large losses to consumers and the broader economy over the decades. The department spent about $29 billion 2013, or $240 for every U.S. household. It employs 17,000 workers directly and oversees about 100,000 contract workers at research facilities across the nation.
October 19, 2017 - As part of Nuclear Science Week, Secretary Perry sat down with a group of 14 millennial visionaries to talk about their work in the field and what they see as the future of nuclear energy. In a rush to get a rule through before winter, the Department of Energy directed the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to write and finalize a rule aimed at improving grid resilience. The DOE recommends that power plants stockpiling an arbitrarily defined 90 days’ worth of fuel on-site be compensated for certain costs – a measure that essentially creates a new subsidy in otherwise competitive electricity markets. The proposal would likely benefit coal, nuclear, and hydro power plants that have the ability to hold such inventory.
