V8 Supercars

V8 Supercars is a touring car racing category based in Australia and run as an International Series under Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) regulations.

V8 Supercar events take place in all Australian states and the Northern Territory, with the Australian Capital Territory formerly holding the Canberra 400. An international round is held in New Zealand, while events have previously been held in China, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and the United States. A non-championship event is also held in support of the Australian Grand Prix. Race formats vary between each event with sprint races between 100 and 200 kilometres in length, street races between 125 and 250 kilometres in length, and two-driver endurance races held at Sandown, Bathurst and the Gold Coast. The series is broadcast in 137 countries and has an average event attendance of over 100,000, with over 250,000 people attending major events such as the Clipsal 500.

The vehicles used in the series are loosely based on road-going, four-door saloon cars. Cars are custom made using a control chassis, with only certain body panels being common between the road cars and race cars. To ensure parity between each make of car, many control components are utilised. All cars must use a 5.0-litre, naturally aspirated V8 engine. Originally only for Ford Falcons and Holden Commodores, the New Generation V8 Supercar regulations, introduced in 2013, opened up the series to more manufacturers.Nissan were the first new manufacturer to commit to the series with four Nissan Altimas, followed by Erebus Motorsport with three Mercedes-Benz E63 AMGs.Volvo entered the series in 2014 with Garry Rogers Motorsport racing the Volvo S60.

TOCA Touring Car series

TOCA is a racing video game series developed and published by Codemasters, initially focusing specifically on touring car racing but more recently expanding to cover a wide variety of motorsport. Since the series began in 1997 with TOCA Touring Car Championship, the franchise has been released on PC, PlayStation, PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable, and Xbox, with particular success in Europe and Australia where the motorsports featured are most popular. Since TOCA Race Driver, the fourth title in the series, each new game is released under different titles in different regions, such as Pro Race Driver in the US, DTM Race Driver in Germany, and V8 Supercars in Australia.

TOCA Touring Car Championship

The first game of the series was released for Windows and PlayStation platforms in late 1997 in Europe, and in summer 1998 in the United States (as TOCA Championship Racing). Featuring all the licensed cars (not including privateers) and tracks from the 1997 British Touring Car Championship, the game was critically acclaimed by the European games press - especially on console where it was widely considered the best in its genre until the release of Gran Turismo several months later.

V8 Supercars RedLine

V8 Supercars RedLine is a racing simulator based upon Australia's V8 Supercars series. It is an upcharge attraction which allows up to 4 guests to participate in a 24-car race around Bathurst. Located in the southern portion of Ocean Parade, V8 Supercars RedLine forms part of Dreamworld's marketing initiative, Adrenalin Alley which incorporates the FlowRider and AVPX.

History

On 14 November 2008, Dreamworld announced V8 Supercars RedLine on Australian theme park forum, Parkz. This was followed shortly by the launch of a construction blog at v8supercars.dreamworld.com.au.

Construction of the ride began shortly after the ride's announcement. An existing shed, originally used as part of the Cyclone's theming, was modified and extended to become the home of V8 Supercars RedLine.

The ride was originally scheduled to open on 16 December 2008, however, a number of reasons forced it to be delayed.V8 Supercars RedLine had a soft opening on 26 December 2008. The ride was officially opened on 18 February 2009 with V8 Supercar drivers Cameron McConville, Craig Lowndes, Greg Murphy and Jamie Whincup present for the launch.
