Barrio Bellavista (Bellavista Neighborhood) is an area that lies between the Mapocho River and San Cristóbal Hill in Santiago, Chile. It is known as Santiago's bohemian quarter, with new hip restaurants, boutiques, and avant-garde galleries occupying loft spaces and lordly mansions that punctuate tree-lined streets awash with colorful antique homes. Many of the city's esteemed intellectuals and artists live in Bellavista, following in the footsteps of its most famous denizen, Pablo Neruda. In the evening, Bellavista pulses to the beat of music pouring from its many discos and bars. On weekends, there is an evening handicrafts market that runs the length of Pío Nono. The area is served by the Baquedano Metro subway station, located just across the river.
In addition, it is a popular place to purchase craftwork made from lapis lazuli, a semiprecious stone found principally in Chile and Afghanistan.
Pablo Neruda's famous house in Santiago, La Chascona, is also in this quarter.

Our trip to Chile wouldn't have been complete without a visit to the capital, so towards the end of our stay we decided to visit Santiago. We had 4 days to discover what the city was all about, so we set out to visit the main attractions, sample Chilean food (Comida Chilena), and explore various neighborhoods on foot. We may not have been able to see it all, but the following is our experience in the city. For anyone planning a similar trip, here's a look at 20 things to do in Santiago de Chile on your visit: GEAR WE USE Olympus OM-D E-M5 II: http://amzn.to/1OchS7t Canon G7X: http://amzn.to/1YdjsYX Olympus 14-150mm II Lens: http://amzn.to/1Y79zeM Rode Video Mic GO: http://amzn.to/1WDKtVM Joby Gorilla Pod: http://amzn.to/1PgoY5F SanDisk 16GB Extreme Pro: http://amzn.to/25KEErs SOCIAL...
A bohemian neighborhood full of art galleries, restaurants, and bars. Let's take a tour of the fascinating neighborhood of Bellavista in the city of Santiago. The neighborhood of Bellavista was founded in 1891 by the same owner of the vineyard (?). Bellavista has a strong Bohemian feel, there are many old, beautiful buildings and it is very popular amongst the artists. We are in the residential neighborhood of Bellavista. Lots of pretty houses, tree lined streets, it does not get much better than this. Look, we even found a spider web gate. Not surprisingly there are many art galleries and theaters all around Bellavista. One of Bellavista's most popular attractions, just might be Pablo Neruda's house "La Chascona." Pablo Neruda is Chile's Noble Prize winning poet. Outside his house you ...
Santiago de Chile, a city of extremes, is surrounded by the world’s longest mountain range, driest desert, largest ocean and southernmost grassy plains. The cosmopolitan South American capital has the perfect mix of both historic and ultra-modern attractions. The lively Plaza de Armas houses the divine Metropolitan Cathedral and the National History Museum. Santa Lucía Hill is the place where the city was founded by the Spanish in the 16th-century and the Chilean Museum of pre-Colombian Art shows what life was like here before colonial rule. La Moneda Palace is the seat of government and the place of Augusto Pinochet’s 1973 military coup. The Museum of Memory and Human Rights documents the dictator’s repressive regime. Santiago has many city parks. Parque Bicentenario is in Vitacura, w...

In this video from Santiago, Chile, I travel to Santiago by flying over the Andes and into the capital. I visit Pablo Neruda's house, taste wine in the Maipo Valley, then check out the nightlife in the city.
Bellavista stuns with its colourful streets, its fanciful architecture and the lushness of a colossal tree-clad hill, the Cerro San Cristóbal, as a natural backdrop. No wonder it was here that Pablo Neruda, Chile's famous Noble-laureate poet, decided to build his home in the capital in the 1950s. On lazy, sunny days, this barrio feels like a village miles away from the roaring noise of la Alameda -- even if it's only a short walk away. Yet it's not Bellavista's daytime cuteness that pulls the punters. The area's numerous snazzy bars, restaurants and cafés heave with crowds every weekend night as the barrio reaches fever pitch. http://www.allsantiago.com/areas-and-barrios/bellavista-san-cristobal/
