The Andaman Islands (अंडमान द्वीप) form an archipelago in the Bay of Bengal between India, to the west, and Myanmar, to the north and east. Most are part of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Union Territory of India, while a small number in the north of the archipelago, including the Coco Islands, belong to Myanmar.
The Andaman Islands are home to the only known paleolithic people, the Sentinelese people, who have had no contact with any other people.
The Andaman islands have been inhabited for several thousand years, at the very least. The earliest archaeological evidence yet documented goes back some 2,200 years; however, the indications from genetic, cultural and isolation studies suggests that the islands may have been inhabited as early as the Middle Paleolithic. The indigenous Andamanese people appear to have lived on the islands in substantial isolation from that time until the 18th century CE.
The Andamans are theorized to be a key stepping stone in a great coastal migration of humans from Africa via the Arabian peninsula, along the coastal regions of the Indian mainland and towards Southeast Asia, Japan and Oceania.

The Nicobar Islands are an archipelagic island chain in the eastern Indian Ocean and one of the most isolated in the world. They are located in Southeast Asia, 150 km north of Aceh on Sumatra, and separated from Thailand to the east by the Andaman Sea. Located 1,300 km southeast of the Indian subcontinent, across the Bay of Bengal, they form part of the Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, India.
UNESCO has declared the islands as one of the World Network of Biosphere Reserves.
The Nicobar Islands cover a land area of 1,840 km2 and had a population of 36,842 at the 2011 Census. They comprise three distinct groups:
Northern Group:
Central Group:
An island /ˈaɪlənd/ or isle /ˈaɪl/ is any piece of sub-continental land that is surrounded by water. Very small islands such as emergent land features on atolls can be called islets, skerries, cays or keys. An island in a river or a lake island may be called an eyot or ait, or a holm. A grouping of geographically or geologically related islands is called an archipelago, e.g. the Philippines.
An island may be described as such despite the presence of an artificial land bridge, for example Singapore and its causeway, or the various Dutch delta islands, such as IJsselmonde. Some places may even retain "island" in their names for historical reasons after being connected to a larger landmass by a wide land bridge, such as Coney Island or Coronado Island. Conversely, when a piece of land is separated from the mainland by a man-made canal, for example the Peloponnese by the Corinth Canal, it is generally not considered an island.
There are two main types of islands: continental islands and oceanic islands. There are also artificial islands.
Port Blair ( pronunciation ) is the capital of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, a union territory of India situated in the Bay of Bengal. It is the headquarters of the Andaman and Nicobar Police. It is also the headquarters for the Indian district of South Andaman and the only notified town of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Port Blair is also the local administrative sub-division (tehsil) of the islands. It is the headquarters of the Andaman and Nicobar Command, the first integrated tri-command of the armed forces of India. This is the entry point for visiting Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Port Blair is connected with mainland India by both air and sea. Though it is a 2 hours’ flight from mainland India to Port Blair, but it takes 3-4 days by sea to reach Chennai, Kolkata or Vishakhapatnam. Air connectivity to Port Blair is available from Chennai, Kolkata, New Delhi, Bhubaneshwar and Vishakhapatnam. All flights bound to Andaman and Nicobar Islands land in Port Blair's Veer Savarkar International Airport. Sea connectivity is available from Chennai, Kolkata and Vishakhapatnam are embarked in Haddo Wharf. It is home to several museums and a major naval base INS Jarawa of the Indian Navy, along with sea and air bases of the Indian Coast Guard and the Indian Air Force. Port Blair is also famous for the historic Cellular Jail and other small islands like Ross, Viper etc. which were once home to British colonists.

The Jarawas, an indigenous people of the Andaman Islands in India. They live in parts of South Andaman and Middle Andaman Islands, and their present numbers are estimated at between 250–400 individuals. They have largely shunned interaction with outsiders, and many particulars of their society, culture, and traditions are poorly understood. The Jarawas are recognized as an Adivasi group in India. Along with other indigenous Andamanese peoples, they have inhabited the islands for at least several thousand years, and most likely a great deal longer. The Andaman Islands have been known to outsiders since antiquity; however, until quite recent times they were infrequently visited, and such contacts were predominantly sporadic and temporary. Here is the full film from our Andamans Expedition Trip to India. I hope it conveys the excitement we go through on these trips and captures the variety of fishing on offer and the buzz you can get from this type of blue water lure fishing. Chasing down the dolphins which are hearding the big yellow fin tuna was some of the most crazy fishing I have ever done. Light jigging for all manner of reef fish was great fun on the right tackle too. Catching the big GT’s and dogtooth tunas was as brutal as ever. Great service as always from http://www.gamefishingasia.com
Andamaanien paratiisisaarilta emme löytäneet Intialle tyypillisiä vahvoja kontrasteja, joten Intian parhaista ja kauneimmista puolista oli helppo nauttia. Ihastuimme entistä enemmän Intialaiseen ruokaan, ystävällisiin ja suvaitsevaisiin ihmisiin sekä Intialaisten rentoon elämän asenteeseen. There are still people in this world who have no idea that civilization exists. On remote islands in the Bay of Bengal live mysterious tribes. The five-foot high black skinned Andaman islanders are rumoured by sailors to be cannibals. Their origins are mysterious, but this film reveals how modern DNA analysis suggests that these ancient people have close links to Africa, from where they have been separated for 100,000 years. The Andamanese people are the various aboriginal inhabitants of the Andaman Islands, a district of India located in the southeastern part of the Bay of Bengal. The Andamanese have been classified as Negritos, together with a few other isolated groups in Asia by raciologist theories. They are pygmies, and are the only modern people outside Africa with steatopygia. They ...

Tourists on India's Andaman Islands are taken by the busload to watch the Jarawa tribe go about their daily lives. The Jarawa are treated like animals in a safari park, with large signs urging visitors not to feed them or give them clothing. Earlier this year, a crew from VICE Germany went to the Andaman Islands and brought back footage for this fascinating, if a bit depressing, documentary. Human Safari was produced with assistance from the non-profit Survival International. A Backpackers Guide To India: The Andaman Islands Watch in HD I only discovered the Andaman Islands about a year ago when a friend mentioned them to me when he heard I was planning a trip around India. I instantly became interested in them when I saw how remote they looked on a map. Without researching too much more into it, I booked a flight there and worked the rest out on the go. An epic destination for backpackers that has the feel of South East Asian islands like Koh Phangan, but without the crowds. Amazing food, Amazing locals, Get in! Top 10 things to do in my favorite holiday destination in India... Andaman and Nicobar Islands.. 1)The Cellular Jail Situated in the middle of the city of Port Blair, near the Rajiv Gandhi water sports Complex, The Cellular jail is a wonder of architectural and Historical Importance. The trip to the cellular jail should be divided into a day trip and also a trip in the evening for the Light and Sound Show. During the Day trip you can have a closer look into the 3 remaining wings of the Jail, the solitary cells, the gallows and the view from the roof. You can also have an account of the Great revolutionists who were imprisoned there as their names are listed on the walls of the central tower in each floor. There are three galleries (Two at the entrance and one at the back of the jail) disp...
