Forum Networks
WordPress Multisite is a way to have multiple sites powered by one single instance of WordPress. Since WordPress 3.0, running multiple sites this way has been made easier than ever, and bbPress works very well in a WordPress multisite environment.
There are three typical types of bbPress installations that would take advantage of WordPress multisite:
- Running forums on one site as the social hub of a larger network.
- Running a network of disparate public forums, each with their own categories and focus.
- Running two separate forums: one public, one private.
bbPress natively runs only on the sites it’s activated on. If it’s activated network-wide, or as a must-use plugin, it will idle on all sites in the network, ready for the Key Masters of those sites to create forums and craft the experience to fit the needs of that site.
bbPress also works with multiple WordPress networks. In any of the above scenarios, bbPress works exactly how you tell it to. If you have questions about how to best integrate bbPress into your networks of sites, ask them in our support forums.
