Savannakhet Province is home to a unique type of forest landscape, called dry dipterocarp forest. This forest type is of global priority for biodiversity conservation, as it contains an exceptionally wide variety of animals and plants. To ensure conservation of this valuable habitat, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has broken ground on a Dry Dipterocarp Forest Centre. The Centre will be the headquarters for a biodiversity center, a center for livelihood activities for the local communities, as well as a visitor center and ecotourism hub.
Back to nature - a slogan much used at the recent international climate conference in Bonn. This slogan of nature-based solutions is reality in Lao PDR, a small land-locked country with a mission to graduate from its least-developed country status.
A delegation from Lao PDR participated in COP23 climate conference. Lao PDR’s delegation took part in negotiations on implementing the Paris Agreement and to present the country’s own implementation progress in three side events, discussing issues of circular economy, South-South cooperation and Nationally Determined Contributions.
Haoliang Xu is currently visiting Lao PDR to attend the 2017 Round Table Implementation Meeting in Pakse.
