Cuba, officially the Republic of Cuba (Spanish: República de Cuba ), is a country comprising the islands of Cuba, Isla de la Juventud and several archipelagos in the Caribbean Sea. The capital and largest city Havana is 365 km (227 mi) from Miami, Florida. Geographically, Cuba is considered part of North America. Culturally, it is considered part of Latin America.
Prior to Spanish colonization in the late 15th century, Cuba was inhabited by Amerindian tribes. It remained a colony of Spain until the Spanish–American War of 1898, which led to nominal independence as a de facto U.S. protectorate in 1902. As a fragile republic, Cuba attempted to strengthen its democratic system, but mounting political radicalization and social strife culminated in the dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista in 1952. Further unrest and instability led to Batista's ousting in January 1959 by the July 26 movement, which afterwards established a government under the leadership of Fidel Castro. Since 1965, the country has been governed by the Communist Party of Cuba.

Genres: Drama,https://www.expedia.com/explore/caribbean/cuba.d44 It’s only 93 miles from Florida, and just 13 from the Bahamas, but like the smoke that coils from its legendary cigars, The Republic of Cuba exists in a time and space all its own. Few cities can stir the imagination like Cuba’s capital, Havana, a city preserved by forts, a five-mile seawall, and an imposed embargo, which held back the excesses of the 20th century for over 50 years. Havana’s lure can be hard to resist, but Cuba offers so much more beyond the seductive lights of its capital. In Cuba, a long sandy beach is never far away. Just 12 miles from Havana’s downtown, the Eastern Beaches unroll toward the town of Matanzas, the birthplace of the rumba, and Cárdenas, where the Cuban Flag flew for the very first time. From here...
There are few more fascinating destinations in the Caribbean than its largest and most populous island, Cuba -- not least because it has been a socialist republic since the 1959 revolution, when Fidel Castro seized power. This last remaining vestige of state socialism, 90 miles south of Key West, Florida, was once the last stronghold of Spanish power in the region. Cuba's rich artistic heritage ranges from pre-Columbian cultures to the splendors of Spanish colonialism and the internationally acclaimed art of today. It is also a place of great natural beauty, with three magnificent mountain ranges and fertile plains where sugar cane and tobacco grow. And it has some of the best beaches in the world. A quarter of Cuba's 11 million people live in and around Havana, which lays claim to being t...

Since then, Cold War-era travel restrictions that prohibited most Americans from visiting were lifted, leading to a surge of U.S. tourists and a scramble to accommodate them. NewsHour Weekend Special Correspondent Amy Guttman looks at the growing hospitality industry in Cuba.

VLOG of my trip to Cuba in the winter. Using Club Amigo resort as a home base, I rented a car with my guide Yuri and hit the road! Leaving the fun kayak and catamaran tours behind I searched for the views the countryside had to offer. I visited places like Chorro de Maita museum where I saw skeletons and burial sites alongside the historic sites where Christopher Columbus landed. I learned about the Cuban tribes and history, saw the church where Fidel Castro was married and went up Hill of the Cross in Holguin. I ended off snorkeling with the fish and a train ride through the county side in Cuba. A great way to explore Eastern Cuba (Banes and Holguin). Check out my other videos in this VLOG series! President Obama called on Congress this week to lift the decades-old trade embargo on Cuba. U.S.-Cuban relations have thawed and tourism has increased, but it's still unclear when Americans will be able to travel freely to the nation that was historically off limits. As traveling restrictions are eased, Cuba may also not be ready to accommodate the onslaught of American visitors. Ben Tracy reports.

Jonny here, right now I'm in Havana, and in this short film I'm going to explain a little about tourism in Cuba. Most cultural holidays to Cuba will start in Havana, a city of magnificent decaying colonial architecture, monuments and parks, museums and galleries, music and bars and large old American cars. But the first thing you'll probably notice wandering around Havana is the near total lack of consumerism. Cuba is still a communist country with no commercial influence from America, and as such there's almost no evidence at all of the large multinationals we're used to in the West; you won't find any Starbucks or McDonalds here. There are no billboards advertising Coca Cola, there are no glass fronted shopping malls. Which is actually really quite refreshing. The whole city gives you ...

Cuba took a major hit from Hurricane Irma as it tore through the Caribbean, but now residents on the island are beginning to put their lives back together.
The trend is clear: more visitors are flocking to Cuba, making it the second most travelled to destination in the Caribbean. To capitalize on and continue the growth Cuba is getting seven new luxury properties in 2017, generating some 3,673 luxury rooms to sell. The properties slated for 2017 openings are: • Angsana Cayo Santa Maria – 252 rooms in Cayo Las Brujas-Cayo Santa Maria • Catalonia Cayo Guillermo – 500 rooms in Catalonia Cayo Guillermo • Gran Hotel Kempinski Manzana - 246 rooms in Havana • Grand Muthu Cayo Guillermo – 550 rooms in Cayo Guillermo • Iberostar Bella Vista Varadero – 827 r...

Packed into a remote corner of a pavilion, just 13 U.S. companies took stands at Cuba’s sprawling trade fair this year, in a sign of how firms’ interest in doing business on the island has dwindled in the first year of Donald Trump’s presidency. Last year, amid enthusiasm following a detente in relations agreed between former President Barack Obama and Cuban leader Raul Castro in 2014, 33 U.S. companies took stands at the fair, the premier event on Cuba’s business calendar. The mood was very different at this year’s edition, which took place last week in Havana. While China brought a record company delegation, and more than 150 Spanish businesses packed into five pavilions, the handful of U.S. businessmen were downbeat. http://feeds.reuters.com/~r/reuters/topNews/~3/XqedKl3ccdg/blooming-u-...

La Caridad 78 is a restaurant on the corner of 78th Street and Broadway in New York City's Upper West Side. The name is Spanish, yet the restaurant itself resembles a classic NY Chinese eatery. What's the deal? Well, thousands of Chinese workers came to Cuba in the 19th and 20th centuries, but fled Havana's thriving Chinatown when Castro came to power. Some of those folks came to New York. Some of *those* folks started restaurants, and, well, La Caridad 78 has been serving up some of the best Chinese AND Cuban dishes in the city since 1968. It's a story of perseverance, cultures coming together, and really, really good eats. Do people in Cuba get much better health care than Americans? If you too are as naive as Michael Moore, and believe Cuban claims, then you think the answer is "yes."
Most healthcare in Cuba is free and run by the state. But if you were a doctor before 1963, you’re allowed to still have a private practice. Cuba is well-known for its universal free public health service, where almost all of the country’s doctors work for the state. But there are a few, elderly doctors who have private practices or can see private patients after hours. Correspondent Michael Voss made an appointment with one. He takes us for a visit with one of the last, remaining private medical workers on the island. Cuban President Raul Castro has permitted the privatization of some Cuban businesses such as beauty salons and restaurants. But other professions have not been given that allowance. In addition to doctors, they include attorneys, architects and engineers. Watch Michael...

June 2006 Despite decades of crippling sanctions, Cuba has achieved the unthinkable. Its health care system rivals most Western countries and infant mortality rates are lower than those in America. "There is no place in the world with such a system as we have in Cuba", raves one happy patient. Prevented from importing drugs by sanctions, Cuba was forced to make is own medicines. It now sells this technology to other countries, enabling revenues from the health sector to rival those generated by tourism. But it's the training for free of international medical students that's really marking Cuba's stamp on the region. "In ten years, we will have trained between 100,000 -- 150,000 students", boasts Dr Estevez. America claims gestures like this are a means of Cuba buying UN votes. But Cub...

https://www.expedia.com/explore/caribbean/cuba.d44 It’s only 93 miles from Florida, and just 13 from the Bahamas, but like the smoke that coils from its legendary cigars, The Republic of Cuba exists in a time and space all its own.
I visited Cuba in July 2016 and after nearly 3 weeks touring the island I made up a list of information I wish I had before my holiday. This is my collection of advice and suggestions I've made to try and help anyone travelling to Cuba. I looked up help videos before my own trip, and what I learnt while there was really not covered in most of the videos I watched on youtube. I guess I'm trying to bring more tips all together in one video (albeit a slightly long video haha). There is a lot more to know, I'm sure... but this is a decent list that will give you hopefully more direction to research when planning your holiday.

Travel video about destination Cuba. Basking in the Caribbean sun, the island of Cuba lies between sun and socialism, rumba and revolution. Havana is the capital. In 1553, the Spanish conquerors designated Havana’s harbour as a collection point for ships loaded with gold and silver from the new Spanish colonies and named the settlement, San Cristobal De La Habana.La Bodeguita Del Medio was once Hemmingway`s local and nowhere else is the ‘Mojito’ mixed better: three year old white rum, lime juice, soda, sugar, ice and mint. Whether it be the Teatro Marti, the Old Tobacco Factory, the famous Bacardi house, or the Floridita Bar, everywhere there is a feeling of nostalgia. When the Daiquiri is served, one almost expects Fidel Castro to be sitting at the next table. Pinar Del Rio is a small but...

Cuba has some of the most famous beaches in the world. 130 kilometers east of Cuba's capital Havana we find Varadero. The city of Cuba in the municipality of Cardenas, located on the peninsula of Hicacos. The city that offers up to 22 km of white sand beaches and crystal clear water with a skyline dominated by a turquoise sea. Varadero is a destination of international tourism, almost idyllic, for swimming or diving. Throughout the day, relax in Varadero, walking through a botanical garden, named Park Josone, built in the 40´s with romantic style. An exemplar of environmental harmony, tranquillity and rest. We recommend you take a walk around the area of Cardenas to discover an amusement park or purchase in numerous souvenir shops an local crafts of Cuban artists. We wish you have a very g...

Cuba is now opening up for Americans to travel to. These are the Dos and Don'ts. Cuba has remained a bit of a dead zone to Americans and because of that, there are a lot of misconceptions about the country. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l5firmVwaSc Cuba is an awesome place full of friendly people but it's still useful to know a few tips before you go. President Obama is now putting in legislation to ease up travel restrictions to Cuba, and before you go there, it's useful to know the do's and don'ts. Even though Cuba just received it's 1st commercial flight from the US, President elect Donald Trump has stated that he will undo President Obama's legislation on Cuba if the Government doesn't "make a better deal with the Cuban people." And also tweeting on the news of Castro. This vi...

Cuba is the pearl of the Caribbean Sea. Thanks to the colonial past, Havana - the capital - has plenty of palaces, nice mansions, cathedrals, strong forts, and shady alleys. On the streets the automobiles of the 50’s from United States create a huge contrast with the coaches. Trinidad is full of palaces built by the sugar barons, while Santa Clara is the town of the legendary revolutionary, Che Guevara. Guama shows us an Indian village and a crocodile farm, Varadero offers white, sandy beaches shaded by large palm trees and luxury hotels. In the Tropicana, the band is moving to a heartwarming music. In the famous bars, as the Floridita or the Bodaguita, we can remember Hemingway, and drink from the local rum or the cocktails prepared from it, moreover we can light a good Cuban cigar as wel...

Fidel Castro brought revolution to Cuba in 1959. But the country has been stuck between nostalgia and new beginnings ever since. With its vintage cars and crumbling facades, Havana looks like it’s stuck in a time warp. But young Cubans are optimistic about the future, and material shortages make for inventiveness. To compensate for the lack of a reliable Internet, for example, they invented "El Paquete," an elaborate information network that stretched across the island thanks to portable hard drives. It brings the Bundesliga, telenovelas and US TV shows to even the most remote villages. As the 1962 missile crisis finally fades into history, Cuba is slowly opening up. The owner of Havana’s most chic restaurant, "La Guarida," has reached a deal with some young architects: The profits from...

When you got the feeling
You try to get higher
You think you're going insane
You're almost crazy
It really drives you mad
You feel it coming your way
Have a real good time
Do the dance (Oooh!)
Have a real good time
Do the non stop dance
Oh, when you spin 'n' stompin'
There's no way out
You're getting down by the sound
And you fool about, feet around
As you inspire
It really knocks yourself out
Have a real good time
Do the dance (Yeah!)
Have a real good time
Do the non stop dance
Come on, man, y'all
Yeah, you got it now
Have a real good time
Do the non stop dance
Non stop, mmm, dance
Yeah
Non stop (Dance) (3x)
Non stop (Dance!)
