Sakhir

Sakhir (Arabic: الصخير‎) is a desert area located in the Kingdom of Bahrain, near Zallaq. It contains the Al-Sakhir Palace, built in 1870. In the early 2000s, the area has seen many changes such as the creation of the University of Bahrain main campus and Bahrain International Circuit, the home of Formula One's Bahrain Grand Prix. In addition, many people come to Sakhir for camping. Sakhir is also the location of the Al Areen Wildlife Park, the only nature reserve and zoo located on land in Bahrain.

BMW M4

The BMW M4 is a high-performance version of the 4 Series automobile developed by BMW's in-house motorsport division, the BMW M GmbH, the M4 is one of the fastest M cars ever produced by BMW achieving 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 4.1 seconds (equipped with 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox). Part of the renumbering that BMW splits the 3 Series coupe and convertible models to the 4 Series (to further differentiate with the 3 Series sedans), the M4 replaces the M3 Coupe and Convertible models, as well as the Gran Coupe. Upgrades over the standard 4-Series include: a very powerful and responsive, twin turbocharged engine; improved handling, suspension, and braking systems; aerodynamic body enhancements; interior/exterior accents with the tri-colour "M" (Motorsport) badging; the significantly reduced weight compared to the standard 4 series and its predecessor with an all-new stiffer chassis and extensive use of carbon fiber, especially the roof of the car.

Bahrain International Circuit

The Bahrain International Circuit (Arabic: حلبة البحرين الدولية) is a motorsport venue opened in 2004 and used for drag racing, GP2 and the annual Bahrain Grand Prix. The 2004 Grand Prix was the first held in the Middle East. Beginning in 2006, Australian V8 Supercars raced at the BIC, with the event known as the Desert 400. However, the V8 Supercars did not return for the 2011 V8 Supercar season. 24 Hour endurance races are also hosted at BIC. The circuit has FIA Grade 1 license.

History

The construction of the Bahrain circuit was a national objective for Bahrain, initiated by the Crown Prince, Shaikh Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa. The Crown Prince is the Honorary President of the Bahrain Motor Federation. TRL was asked to build the circuit, headed by Patrick Brogan.

Race organizers were worried that the circuit would not be complete in time for the 2004 Bahrain Grand Prix and attempted to cancel the event; however, Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone refused this request. In the end, the circuit was not quite fully complete, but was good enough for the grand prix to go ahead.

2016 Formula One season

The 2016 Formula One season will be the 67th season of the FIA Formula One World Championship, a motor racing championship for Formula One cars which is recognised by the sport's governing body, the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), as the highest class of competition for open-wheel racing cars. Teams and drivers are scheduled to take part in twenty-one Grands Prix—making for the longest season in the sport's history—starting in Australia on 20 March and finishing in Abu Dhabi on 27 November as they compete for the World Drivers' and World Constructors' championships.

The 2016 season will see the grid expand to 22 cars with the addition of the Haas F1 Team entry.Renault will return to the sport as a constructor after a four-year absence following their takeover of Lotus prior to the start of the season. The calendar will also expand, with the return of the German Grand Prix and the revival of the European Grand Prix in Azerbaijan.

Lewis Hamilton will start the season as the defending Drivers' Champion for the second year running, after winning his third World Championship title at the 2015 United States Grand Prix. His team, Mercedes, will start the season as the defending Constructors' Champion, having secured its second championship title at the 2015 Russian Grand Prix.

BMW

History

BMW was established as a business entity following a restructuring of the Rapp Motorenwerke aircraft manufacturing firm in 1917. After the end of World War I in 1918, BMW was forced to cease aircraft-engine production by the terms of the Versailles Armistice Treaty. The company consequently shifted to motorcycle production as the restrictions of the treaty started to be lifted in 1923, followed by automobiles in 1928–29.
