Noted worldwide for his sublime waterfall and cliff images, which are often monumental in scale, Hiroshi Senju combines a minimalist visual language rooted in Abstract Expressionism with ancient painting techniques unique to Japan.
Widely recognized as one of the few contemporary masters of the thousand-year-old Nihonga style of painting, Mr. Senju began exploring the waterfall image in the early 1990s. He seamlessly combines traditional Japanese techniques and materials such as pigments made from minerals, ground stone, shell and corals suspended in animal-hide glue with a modernist visual vocabulary. With incredible delicacy, he pours translucent paint onto mulberry paper mounted on board, creating the sensation of unrestrained movement. Evoking a deep sense of calm, his waterfalls conjure the appearance, sound, smell and feel of rushing water.
For these paintings, the New York-based artist uses fluorescent pigments, a medium he first explored in 2007. These images appear black and white in daylight but fluoresce an arresting electric blue under ultraviolet light. An ode to the ubiquitous city lights of contemporary existence, Senju’s waterfalls hover between day and night as he straddles the realms of industry and nature, the material and the ethereal.
Hiroshi Senju was the first Asian artist to receive an Honorable Mention Award at the 46th Venice Biennale (1995) and has participated in exhibitions around the world, including the Beauty Project at the Museum of Contemporary Art, London in 1996; The New Way of Tea, curated by Alexandra Munroe, at the Japan Society and the Asia Society in New York in 2002; and Paintings on Fusuma, at the Tokyo National Museum in 2003. In 2003, Mr. Senju completed seventy-seven murals at Jukoin, a sub-temple of Daitokuji, a prominent Zen Buddhist temple in Japan. In 2004, he was the art director for the new Haneda Airport International Passenger Terminal in Tokyo, where he completed one of his largest installations. The Benesse Art Site of Naoshima Island, designed by Tadao Ando, also houses two large-scale installations.
Hiroshi Senju’s work is in the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles; The Museum of Modern Art, Toyama, Japan; the Yamatane Museum of Art and Tokyo University of the Arts, Tokyo; and the Kushiro Art Museum, Hokkaido, Japan. The Hiroshi Senju Museum Karuizawa, designed by Ryue Nishizawa, opened in October 2011 in Japan.

STORYLINE:
Under a clear blue sky, with temperatures reaching 15 degrees Celsius (59 degrees F), a group of 20 year old Japanese men clad in nothing but loin cloths prepare for an icy dip at the Holy Court of the Tokyo shrine.
These young men are at Tokyo Kanda Myojin shrine to submit to a very "cool" rite of passage.
Hundreds of spectators all wearing coats and scarves have assembled to observe the ritual.
After holy prayers are chanted, the group exercise in a ceremonial manner before jumping into the icy pool.
This ritual has become an annual event marking "Coming of Age Day", this Monday (14 January 2002).
In the Shinto religion, which is widely practiced in Japan, it is believed that a physical challenge prepares one for coming challenges later in life.
It is also believed that the holy water of the pool, which is drawn from a small stream in the shrine.
The ritual also is meant to prove the virility of the participants.
The cold weather weather is evident on their faces, as their teeth chatter and lips take on a slightly bluish hue.
The temperature of the water is brought down even further by the addition of a large chunk of ice in the centre of the pool.
This is the 15th year of the annual traditional event.

After the Lights
After The Lights is the fifth album of Sweetbox and the fourth album with Jade Villalon as frontwoman. It was released in 2004 in Japan. On various online stores, the CD is listed as Sweetbox Presents a Very Sweet X-Mas, although only 4 songs on the album are Christmas carols.
In 2005, two different versions of the album were released in Korea, with one version being a special two-disc Christmas edition. The 3rd edition was called 13 Chapters, but was an album composed of the more popular songs from both Adagio and After the Lights. The album saw a shift in the lyrical style of Jade's writing, this time showcasing many songs written in 3rd person fashion, involving tales of lovers or people dealing with personal struggle, instead of a 1st person approach. The songs also were all based on original musical compositions written by Jade and Geo, with the exception of the holiday carols.

Killing Me
"Killing Me" is the twenty-sixth single by L'Arc-en-Ciel, released on January 13, 2005. It debuted at number 1 on the Oricon chart, and was certified Gold by RIAJ for shipment of 100,000 copies. The single aroused public notice because they collaborated with Sayaka Aoki on the B-side song, "Round and Round 2005" (the second appearance by their alter ego, P'unk-en-Ciel).

Hiroshi Senju
Hiroshi Senju (千住博, Senju Hiroshi, born 1958) is a Nihonga painter known for his large scale waterfall paintings.
Biography
Senju graduated from the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music in 1982. In 1987 he finished the Ph.D program at the Graduate School of Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music.
His success largely came about in the 1990s in response to his gigantic waterfall paints. These paintings often hung in corporate and public buildings, and Senju has been said to be one of a few artists today whose work is recognized by the general population.
These waterfall paintings often focus at the base of the waterfall where the falls crash into the pool below, usually cropping out the top of the falls. As a painter he primarily uses traditional Japanese painting techniques; employing pigments derived from natural materials and applying them to a specially designed mulberry paper. In contrast to the norm of displaying such works in a dimly lit, tatami matted room, Hiroshi prefers his paintings to be viewed under natural light.

Silent Night
"Silent Night" (German: Stille Nacht, heilige Nacht) is a popular Christmas carol, composed in 1818 by Franz Xaver Gruber to lyrics by Joseph Mohr in the small town of Oberndorf bei Salzburg, Austria. It was declared an intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO in 2011. The song has been recorded by a large number of singers from every music genre. The version sung by Bing Crosby is the third best-selling single of all-time.
History
The song was first performed on Christmas Eve 1818 at St Nicholas parish church in Oberndorf, a village in the Austrian Empire on the Salzach river in present-day Austria. A young priest, Father Joseph Mohr, had come to Oberndorf the year before. He had already written the lyrics of the song "Stille Nacht" in 1816 at Mariapfarr, the hometown of his father in the Salzburg Lungau region, where Joseph had worked as a coadjutor.
The melody was composed by Franz Xaver Gruber, schoolmaster and organist in the nearby village of Arnsdorf. Before Christmas Eve, Mohr brought the words to Gruber and asked him to compose a melody and guitar accompaniment for the church service. Both performed the carol during the mass on the night of December 24.

Wide shot of the shrine STORYLINE: Under a clear blue sky, with temperatures reaching 15 degrees Celsius (59 degrees F), a group of 20 year old Japanese men clad in nothing but loin cloths prepare for an icy dip at the Holy Court of the Tokyo shrine. These young men are at Tokyo Kanda Myojin shrine to submit to a very "cool" rite of passage. Hundreds of spectators all wearing coats and scarves have assembled to observe the ritual. After holy prayers are chanted, the group exercise in a ceremonial manner before jumping into the icy pool. This ritual has become an annual event marking "Coming of Age Day", this Monday (14 January 2002). In the Shinto religion, which is widely practiced in Japan, it is believed that a physical challenge prepares one for coming challenges later in life. It is also believed that the holy water of the pool, which is drawn from a small stream in the shrine. The ritual also is meant to prove the virility of the participants. The cold weather weather is evident on their faces, as their teeth chatter and lips take on a slightly bluish hue. The temperature of the water is brought down even further by the addition of a large chunk of ice in the centre of the pool. This is the 15th year of the annual traditional event. Noted worldwide for his sublime waterfall and cliff images, which are often monumental in scale, Hiroshi Senju combines a minimalist visual language rooted in Abstract Expressionism with ancient painting techniques unique to Japan.
Widely recognized as one of the few contemporary masters of the thousand-year-old Nihonga style of painting, Mr. Senju began exploring the waterfall image in the early 1990s. He seamlessly combines traditional Japanese techniques and materials such as pigments made from minerals, ground stone, shell and corals suspended in animal-hide glue with a modernist visual vocabulary. With incredible delicacy, he pours translucent paint onto mulberry paper mounted on board, creating the sensation of unrestrained movement. Evoking a deep sense of calm, his waterfalls conjure the appearance, sound, smell and feel of rushing water.
For these paintings, the New York-based artist uses fluorescent pigments, a medium he first explored in 2007. These images appear black and white in daylight but fluoresce an arresting electric blue under ultraviolet light. An ode to the ubiquitous city lights of contemporary existence, Senju’s waterfalls hover between day and night as he straddles the realms of industry and nature, the material and the ethereal.
Hiroshi Senju was the first Asian artist to receive an Honorable Mention Award at the 46th Venice Biennale (1995) and has participated in exhibitions around the world, including the Beauty Project at the Museum of Contemporary Art, London in 1996; The New Way of Tea, curated by Alexandra Munroe, at the Japan Society and the Asia Society in New York in 2002; and Paintings on Fusuma, at the Tokyo National Museum in 2003. In 2003, Mr. Senju completed seventy-seven murals at Jukoin, a sub-temple of Daitokuji, a prominent Zen Buddhist temple in Japan. In 2004, he was the art director for the new Haneda Airport International Passenger Terminal in Tokyo, where he completed one of his largest installations. The Benesse Art Site of Naoshima Island, designed by Tadao Ando, also houses two large-scale installations.
Hiroshi Senju’s work is in the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles; The Museum of Modern Art, Toyama, Japan; the Yamatane Museum of Art and Tokyo University of the Arts, Tokyo; and the Kushiro Art Museum, Hokkaido, Japan. The Hiroshi Senju Museum Karuizawa, designed by Ryue Nishizawa, opened in October 2011 in Japan.

STORYLINE:
Under a clear blue sky, with temperatures reaching 15 degrees Celsius (59 degrees F), a group of 20 year old Japanese men clad in nothing but loin cloths prepare for an icy dip at the Holy Court of the Tokyo shrine.
These young men are at Tokyo Kanda Myojin shrine to submit to a very "cool" rite of passage.
Hundreds of spectators all wearing coats and scarves have assembled to observe the ritual.
After holy prayers are chanted, the group exercise in a ceremonial manner before jumping into the icy pool.
This ritual has become an annual event marking "Coming of Age Day", this Monday (14 January 2002).
In the Shinto religion, which is widely practiced in Japan, it is believed that a physical challenge prepares one for coming challenges later in life.
It is also believed that the holy water of the pool, which is drawn from a small stream in the shrine.
The ritual also is meant to prove the virility of the participants.
The cold weather weather is evident on their faces, as their teeth chatter and lips take on a slightly bluish hue.
The temperature of the water is brought down even further by the addition of a large chunk of ice in the centre of the pool.
This is the 15th year of the annual traditional event.

STORYLINE:
Under a clear blue sky, with temperatures reaching 15 degrees Celsius (59 degrees F), a group of 20 year old Japanese men clad in nothing but loin cloths prepare for an icy dip at the Holy Court of the Tokyo shrine.
These young men are at Tokyo Kanda Myojin shrine to submit to a very "cool" rite of passage.
Hundreds of spectators all wearing coats and scarves have assembled to observe the ritual.
After holy prayers are chanted, the group exercise in a ceremonial manner before jumping into the icy pool.
This ritual has become an annual event marking "Coming of Age Day", this Monday (14 January 2002).
In the Shinto religion, which is widely practiced in Japan, it is believed that a physical challenge prepares one for coming challenges later in life.
It is also believed that the holy water of the pool, which is drawn from a small stream in the shrine.
The ritual also is meant to prove the virility of the participants.
The cold weather weather is evident on their faces, as their teeth chatter and lips take on a slightly bluish hue.
The temperature of the water is brought down even further by the addition of a large chunk of ice in the centre of the pool.
This is the 15th year of the annual traditional event.

Tokyo (東京), Japan, is one of the world's greatest cities, and there's so much to do and see when you visit. From temples and shrines, to gardens and museums, you'll never run out of attractions. Out of all the things you could do, I've chosen a top 25 list for this awesome city (and just so you know food is my first choice in Tokyo)!

4. Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden (新宿御苑) - The garden is a beautiful attraction in Tokyo, with French gardens, Japanese gardens, and a green house.
5. Ginza (銀座) / Yurakucho (有楽町) - Ginza is a great area of town for upscale shopping and dining, while Yurakucho is famous for Izakaya bars and restaurants under the railroad track.
6. Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building (東京都庁舎) - There are a lot of things to do in Tokyo where you have to pay, but here, you can go to the 45th floor for free.
7. Tsukiji Market (築地市場) - One of the most famous attractions in all of Tokyo is the Tsukiji Market (築地市場), the biggest seafood market in the world.
8. Shibuya (渋谷区) - With the busiest intersection in the world, Shibuya (渋谷区) is also home to shopping and restaurant.
9. Sumida River (隅田川) - At Tokyo's Sumida River, you can either just walk around the park and enjoy the riverside views, or you can take the Tokyo Cruise in a boat.
10. Tokyo Imperial Palace (皇居) - This is the home of the emperor of Japan. To enter the grounds, you have to make a tour booking on the official website
11. Ueno Park (上野公園), Tokyo National Museum (東京国立博物館) - Ueno Park is a huge public park in Tokyo with shrines, gardens and a number of museums.
12. Tokyo Skytree (東京スカイツリー) - They call it Tokyo's biggest attractions. It's a huge communications tower with various viewing decks and galleries.
13. Harajuku (原宿), Takeshita Street (竹下通り) - Famous for its street market and cosplay that takes place, this is a place in the city to see and be seen.
14. Senso-ji (金龍山浅草寺) - Visiting this temple is one of the top things to do in Tokyo, frequented by both tourists and religious pilgrims. It's the oldest temple in Tokyo.
15. Edo-Tokyo Museum (江戸東京博物館) - It looks a little like a UFO, but it's one of Tokyo's main museums, that aims to preserve the history of the city.
16. Fine Dining - Let's just face it, Tokyo is one of the best cities in the world for high class dining - atmosphere, presentation, food, it's all just stunning!
17. Akihabara Electric Town (秋葉原電気街) - If you love electronics and gaming, you're going to love the area of Akihabara. You'll also find those infamous maid cafes here.
18. Tokyo Stock Exchange (東京証券取引所) - Another free attraction in Tokyo is to be a guest at the stock exchange where you can see the Japanese Nikkei being traded.
19. Roppongi (六本木) - Home to the Mori Art Museum and a hotspot for nightlife in the city, Roppongi is an exciting area of town.
20. Odaiba (お台場) - This area of Tokyo is full of things to do like Legoland, and Palette Town, an indoor amusement park. It's also known as Tokyo's entertainment island.
21. Yoyogi Park (代々木公園) - Located next to Meiji Shrine, and just a short distance from Harajuku and Shinjuku, this park is popular for exercise and dance.
22. Nezu (根津), Yanaka (谷中 (台東区) - Tokyo is a truly modern city, but there are a couple places like Nezu and Yanaka that have held strong to their traditional and cultural roots.
23. Onsen (温泉) - You've got to strip down naked before you can enter a Japanese public bath.
24. Mount Takao (高尾山) - Just 50 km from central Tokyo, this mountain is popular for climbing and is a sacred religious mountains. Makes a good day trip from Tokyo.
25. Food - Finally, food is the reason I visited Japan, and I think eating is by all means one of the best things to do in Tokyo. Food is everywhere, and not only does it taste amazing, but the care that goes into Japanese cuisine is incredible.

Tokyo (東京), Japan, is one of the world's greatest cities, and there's so much to do and see when you visit. From temples and shrines, to gardens and museums, you'll never run out of attractions. Out of all the things you could do, I've chosen a top 25 list for this awesome city (and just so you know food is my first choice in Tokyo)!
1. Ameya-Yokochō (アメヤ横丁) - A giant open air market that offers clothes, cosmetics, food, and restaurants and bars.
2. Meiji Shrine (明治神宮) - This Shinto shrine, surrounded by beautiful forest, is extremely significant.
3. Ryogoku Kokugikan (両国国技館) - Even if it's not fight season, you can go to the free sumo museum and eat sumo chankonabe.
4. Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden (新宿御苑) - The garden is a beautiful attraction in Tokyo, with French gardens, Japanese gardens, and a green house.
5. Ginza (銀座) / Yurakucho (有楽町) - Ginza is a great area of town for upscale shopping and dining, while Yurakucho is famous for Izakaya bars and restaurants under the railroad track.
6. Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building (東京都庁舎) - There are a lot of things to do in Tokyo where you have to pay, but here, you can go to the 45th floor for free.
7. Tsukiji Market (築地市場) - One of the most famous attractions in all of Tokyo is the Tsukiji Market (築地市場), the biggest seafood market in the world.
8. Shibuya (渋谷区) - With the busiest intersection in the world, Shibuya (渋谷区) is also home to shopping and restaurant.
9. Sumida River (隅田川) - At Tokyo's Sumida River, you can either just walk around the park and enjoy the riverside views, or you can take the Tokyo Cruise in a boat.
10. Tokyo Imperial Palace (皇居) - This is the home of the emperor of Japan. To enter the grounds, you have to make a tour booking on the official website
11. Ueno Park (上野公園), Tokyo National Museum (東京国立博物館) - Ueno Park is a huge public park in Tokyo with shrines, gardens and a number of museums.
12. Tokyo Skytree (東京スカイツリー) - They call it Tokyo's biggest attractions. It's a huge communications tower with various viewing decks and galleries.
13. Harajuku (原宿), Takeshita Street (竹下通り) - Famous for its street market and cosplay that takes place, this is a place in the city to see and be seen.
14. Senso-ji (金龍山浅草寺) - Visiting this temple is one of the top things to do in Tokyo, frequented by both tourists and religious pilgrims. It's the oldest temple in Tokyo.
15. Edo-Tokyo Museum (江戸東京博物館) - It looks a little like a UFO, but it's one of Tokyo's main museums, that aims to preserve the history of the city.
16. Fine Dining - Let's just face it, Tokyo is one of the best cities in the world for high class dining - atmosphere, presentation, food, it's all just stunning!
17. Akihabara Electric Town (秋葉原電気街) - If you love electronics and gaming, you're going to love the area of Akihabara. You'll also find those infamous maid cafes here.
18. Tokyo Stock Exchange (東京証券取引所) - Another free attraction in Tokyo is to be a guest at the stock exchange where you can see the Japanese Nikkei being traded.
19. Roppongi (六本木) - Home to the Mori Art Museum and a hotspot for nightlife in the city, Roppongi is an exciting area of town.
20. Odaiba (お台場) - This area of Tokyo is full of things to do like Legoland, and Palette Town, an indoor amusement park. It's also known as Tokyo's entertainment island.
21. Yoyogi Park (代々木公園) - Located next to Meiji Shrine, and just a short distance from Harajuku and Shinjuku, this park is popular for exercise and dance.
22. Nezu (根津), Yanaka (谷中 (台東区) - Tokyo is a truly modern city, but there are a couple places like Nezu and Yanaka that have held strong to their traditional and cultural roots.
23. Onsen (温泉) - You've got to strip down naked before you can enter a Japanese public bath.
24. Mount Takao (高尾山) - Just 50 km from central Tokyo, this mountain is popular for climbing and is a sacred religious mountains. Makes a good day trip from Tokyo.
25. Food - Finally, food is the reason I visited Japan, and I think eating is by all means one of the best things to do in Tokyo. Food is everywhere, and not only does it taste amazing, but the care that goes into Japanese cuisine is incredible.
